I would guess the left screen "Brake Lights" function is to help when people are one-pedal driving. EVs like the Teslas turn on the brake lights when a certain level of deceleration is occurring, even when the brakes are not applied, and a lot of people do not know this. The lights light up in the GUI in Teslas to show this, so seems like a logical conclusion in the Ariya.

Manufacturers put it in there to wow people with first impressions but after a week of owning it the material gets all scratched and dusted up. I have driven the "Performance" high-power model of the Ariya, as it's already available here in Europe, and honestly by our standards it's an amazing car. Most vehicles on the road are 3-4 cylinder engines with less than 200hp so even the base model feels impressive to us. It's also too expensive for most people, especially considering that our charging infrastructure might be insufficient depending on where you live. I think most people will still go for an Audi Q3/Q4 after seeing the price.

The two problems I have with capacitive buttons: you can't find them easily by touch (without also activating them), and you can't work them while wearing gloves. Also I'm extremely not a fan of rear-camera "mirrors." Not having parallax depth perception makes it a lot harder to safely judge distances, and having the view angle be decoupled from the mirror's physical angle also makes relative positioning much more difficult to judge. I suppose this is less of an issue because of the backup/wraparound camera and the parking assist, though. I'd imagine that the brake light display is helpful for folks who want to know what the brake lights are doing when in e-step/regen mode. On my Leaf it isn't always clear what's going on with them.

Doug - You live in the San Diego. So when you say most people aren’t interested in the AWD drive version, we’ll, in San Diego that’s probably true. But up here in the north, where we had 4” of snow just this morning, AWD is of high interest to us.

Great job, several genuine features! Kinda rare to see little "late" review from EU point of view, as this car hit the road about half a year earlier in Europe, even more early did journalists testdrive it, some even a year ago, also the names of battery and drive versions are whole different, marketing games. Love the way Arya looks, i'd go for Awd version

At a guess we got this at about the same time as the Tesla Model Y which was very late arriving here. I've seen far more Model Ys on the road though.

Most of these Ariyas are listed for almost $60k with FWD and dealer markups. How is that going to compete with a Tesla Model Y Performance with AWD and 500+ HP for $52k after the tax rebate. This car is cool but it needs to be about $20k less expensive to be competitive.

If the center "coffee table" is an appropriate name, than the shifter would be the "remote control". You, as the driver, would not want that to get too far from a comfortable reach. This should be called "the Golilocks Zone", not too far forward, not too far behind, but JUST RIGHT.

I find it interesting that the car will warn you to keep your eyes on the road when, with the capacitive touch controls, you HAVE TO take your eyes off the road to adjust the climate control since there are no physical knobs and buttons that you can remember their location and adjust them without looking.

I think the reason for the Brake Light status screen is because a lot of people with semi-autonomous vehicles wonder if the brake lights are lighting up when the car is automatically slowing. I have a Genesis GV70, and I see a lot of "hey, are my brake lights on when the vehicle is slowly decelerating?" types of questions in the forums.

Nice, the dealers will have fun explaining to all the payday loan credit risks why they can't actually afford this new $45,000 EV before getting them to sign a 120 month loan on a $25,000 Rogue that will end up costing them the same $45,000 in the end.
@eedre4864 Жыл бұрын
It starts at $44k, which means you’ll be paying $50k with fees and taxes, plus any options that should be standard in this price range. This is Nissan after all, so they’ll charge as much or more than competitors products that were ahead of this on technology three years ago.

The lack of transmissions and other complicated moving parts in EVs make it much easier for auto manufacturers to close the gap with each other. Nissans are still plagued by their terrible CVTs and build quality, same with many other manufacturers -- once you take all that out of the equation, it gets *really* hard to mess up bad enough where someone can't recommend your car -- even if your body panels fall off ;)

@@derekbarbosa CVT issues are a thing of the past. Nissan’s CVTs have been great since 2017/18… Nissan cars built quality is awesome. Check J.D.
