The 2022 Mercedes EQS 580 4Matic Is An Electrifyingly Excellent Luxury Sedan

We've been waiting for one the oldest car brand in the world to come out with their first dedicated electric car and for 2022, it arrives in America in the form of this #MercedesEQS450 and #MercedesEQS580. With a large 108 kWh battery pack, the #MercedesEQS is capable of up to 350 miles on a full charge, can DC Fast Charge up to 80% in just 31 mins, and can sprint to 60 in as little as 4 seconds. For those of you who want more speed, you can wait for the #EQSAMG coming next year which should shave that time by a second. Its a near perfect blend of luxury, electrification, and tech with tis massive 56.7" hyper screen.

While the exterior proportions will take some getting used to, that interior certainly elevates the benchmark to yet another level. While I'm so over piano-black, I can appreciate where MB used it. One odd omission is that the steering wheel center hub is not leather wrapped, as is the case for the S-Class. My OCD would not allow me to ignore it!

The AMG interior (optional on all EQS models) has a different tiller identical to the new AMG models. Though style is subjective, I really like the exterior, understated and elegant. Unlike BMW which has been on a bender of how to make their cars look like an Autobot, Mercedes has stuck to its teutonic understated elegance which I have always appreciated. Form follows funtion!

Well...look at the bright side there won't be that much to repair under the EQS hood 👍 The only normal maintenance under the hood that I can think of will be the huge carbon HEPA filters. And most likely Mercedes service will charge you an arm and a leg to replace. lol What I'm curious about is if the owner figures out how to open the hood and change the filters himself will Mercedes void a part of the warranty? 🤔

@@Eric_In_SF Not really, the EQS has the first level 3 driver assist in the world. For now it is only an option in Germany and a few other European countries. Although it is 100% hands off and you can read or watch movies. It does not allow you to sleep or slide/tilt your seat backwards.

The wide-angle lenses used in this particular video, causes distortion and deformation of the images being captured, so there are no clear or proportioned takes from the exterior of the car nor of the dashboard. Tesla is doing the opposite, they think the future is in removing everything from the interior and having you control it by your phone. They don't even give you a key fob, you use your phone to enter and exit the car. You pay 150 extra to have send a key fob to you.

The EQS is way ahead in my opinion. Tesla is relying on their 0-60 times and range to sway people. The gaps in those categories is not that much. Conversely, the gap between the Tesla and Mercedes regarding the interiors and usable tech is HUGE! Tesla better step their game up big time.

The 0-60 is useless, it's nice but no one is going to use other than to try a couple of times. And to be honest the idea of a car is silly when you can get millions of products delivered to your home the same day with amazon. Along with remote work the only people left driving will be old people who don't know how to order online and when you need to go visit people in person.

The capacitive touch controls on the console for the volume, etc are a complete fail. They should be hard buttons and knobs so you can use them by feel. No one obviously tried using the controls while driving, when you are supposed to be looking at the road. Also, the gloss black all-over the steering wheel is super gross and unacceptable. Additionally, the touch sensitive seat controls are an answer to a question no one asked. Overall 7/10.

@@msag6033 Not in the luxury segment. We have a model S and although it’s nice and it’s expensive it’s not luxurious at all. Now that every Joe Schmoeis purchasing model 3 it cheapens the brand. I know all my neighbors that had Teslas a few years ago have either going back to gas powered lux brand vehicles or switch to Porsche taycans, And other plug-in hybrid’s or electrics. Here in California a Tesla is as common as a Honda Civic. Perhaps for the middle class and working class that are squeezing tassels into their budget there’s brand loyalty five people who are shopping for $100,000 cars the don’t have to struggle to do so are looking for a better experience and you’re only loyal to their own comfort.

The EQS is probably 3rd on my list for electric sedans at this point, behind the Audi E-tron GT and Porsche Taycan. I at first thought Teslas were interesting once I started my huge interest with cars, but now I absolutely hate them. Their "fans" are saltier than the Dead Sea, they have cheap materials inside, and seeing the obvious panel gaps triggers my OCD more so than nearly everything else.

I think u misunderstanding. S class is used to say this is the highest luxury model from electric line up. Just like the s class is the highest from their engine line up. So if bob wants the highest luxury car from benz with a v12 he goes for the sclass. If jim wants the highest model form Benz but hate pollution he goes for the eqs

Many say this looks like a Honda Civic, but I would argue that it looks like the current gen Honda Odyssey. That thin strip of chrome on top of the Mercedes benz logo is the reason, and I am not even sure why that needs to be included when there are 2 mercedes logos already.
