So many negative people in this comment section. When car companies build cars that looks like all others you cry about how "boring" it is, then they do something radical and different and you whine that it's ugly? I salute Mercedes for having the balls do to something that stands out in a sea of lookalikes. Also, why do so many people form an absolute opinion based on a youtube video? You really need to see a car in real life and at the very least sit in it (preferably drive it, of course) in order to form even a tentative opinion. Reviews like this one is informative and fun, but you have to be really dense to judge a car based on a video.

The front passenger really does not need an additional media screen when the centre one is that big! I think the normal non-hyperscreen layout has not only a better design that fits the interior shapes more but is also easier to digest visually when you're driving because of the traditional shapes. Audi's latest screens are also all touch and I really hope they reintroduce the knobs (with the great tactile feedback they're known for) because this higher than steering wheel position in the Audi/lower than steering wheel position in the Mercedes cars is really not ideal for interacting while driving.

As a Tesla owner now considering the EQS, I completely agree with the host on the redundancies of the 3 “hyper” screen setup. The simple no frill info display on one center screen in the Tesla is all I need. The ignition button is also unnecessary, when in the Tesla I just get in the car, put it in drive and off it goes.

The problem with touchscreen buttons/functions is that you need familiarity of placement when driving so it doesn’t distract you. There should be a law to prohibit removing buttons and replacing them with touchscreens. It's more dangerous than using mobile while driving. capacitive buttons are so dangerous, they don't give feedback, freeze, and with time they react to static electricity differently and gives false clicks. Touch screens on the other hand forces the driver to make a lot of gestures that will 100% distract the drivers.

the 10degree software unlock for the rear steering seems like a gimmick for a "S" class, which should already be including the latest and greatest, so it shouldn't be charging these type of customers. I could see this more on the A or C class.
@AI-qd4vb3 жыл бұрын
Unlike software, which you license, cars you actually own. You have all the rights in the world to modify or unlock any hidden feature on your car. They will just have no legal standpoint to enforce or protect this policy against aftermarket mods, which I think would flourish under this circumstances. With all of this said, who do you think will be more bothered to look for after market solutions instead of just paying Merc for the unlock? One one hand we have a client who just paid 100k+ dollars/euros/whatever for a car and on the other we have middle class clients that will hardly pass the 50k barrier. An A or C class buyer will have more of a reason to go for a more economical solution. Truth be told, S-Class Mercedes have always kinda been money suckers out of rich guys pockets. They're always very advanced pieces of engineering, with probably the most hi-tech, abundant and luxurios, collection of optional features. If not milimetrically maintained, they tend to go really awry, yet their clients know outside of MB you will not get the same tech or comfort. Most people either pour a lot of money to mantain them in top form or they sell and buy new ones. Its just the perfect strategy to squeeze the upper class as much as they can.

I could understand if Mercedes charges one time fee for a specific hardware feature. But from what I understand, they plan to set a subscription plan for this rear wheel steering... Is that even legal? How can they justify a monthly fee for a hardware feature already present in the car? Aren't you supposed to own the car when you buy it?
@ZKITPO3 жыл бұрын
Well the wheel steering 10 degrees is optional (not for the EQS 580 where it is mandatory) and the 4,5 degrees is mandatory. So you can buy afterwards the 10degrees option.

It will likely cost you more in the long run. The manufacturers are only doing this for profit. It’s not providing any better convenience for the customer because you’ve already paid for the technology on the car, you are driving around with it already it’s just not activated. So you are paying for a feature twice.

Thank you very much for your interest in this topic. As a start, please tune in to what the animal leather industry tried to do here with our channel: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pIHCdKmCocZ5oqs In general, depending on the animal skin grade, the animals are specifically raised for this matter. However even if meat would be the reason no.1 in other cases, the hide remains one of the most profitable body parts. That means: If manufacturers put animal leather in a car and you accept it as a customer, you give your money to an industry that earns money by oppressing humans, animals and destroys the environment, you make them more profitable. Also, if you turn the argument around "meat is the waste of the leather industry" you realize how biased the argument is. After all, would you care for which body part you would murdered? Or imagine someone robs you on the street and beats you to death - would it matter to you if it was for your Smartphone or for your purse? The animal agriculture industry occupies 2/3 of all farm land on this planet which cannot be used for direct human nutrition then. That is extremely inefficient. The no.1 cause for deforestation is the animal industry. It is also one of the biggest contributor to climate change. The amount of land, resources, energy and water being used is beyond imagination. If you are interested in how the animals are being treated and transported in the global leather industry, watch this footage: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qpzNdHSjppaSbqc Note that the footage is genuine and was recorded by a highly decorated investigative journalist in Germany I know myself personally. For the alternative, you can either use artificial fabrics which can be made from recyclables (we have already shown a lot of vehicles that use great fabric seats from PET-bottles etc.) or more and more also from plant-based materials (like Pinatex). And even if you would create a seat completely with petroleum without a recycling share, the amount of oil being used for that is nothing in comparing just to once fueling up your car. In practical reasons, fabric or microfibre seats are just more useful. You do not sweat in summer and it is not cold in winter. Not using animal skin on seats is a major issue of animal rights, human rights - and after all just of common sense what is better both for the environment and just more practical and more luxurious for the customer. We cannot change what we have bought in the past (that also counts for ourselves of course!), but with more information and compassion we can change how we decide in the future.

The new EQSis certainly ground breaking in terms of design and technology. I do have one query though, whilst the software for traffic is certainly impressive, I assume that even the EQS cannot do anything about the intensely annoying and potentially dangerous practice that some drivers have of "tail-gating"( drivers behind one following without allowing a safe stopping distance between vehicles) ?
@mikeyshanghai98013 жыл бұрын
When you are complaining too many screens and you don’t know which one to focus on, can you not turn off the centre screen and the front passenger screen, and just leave the drivers screen on? Are they or do they have one similar with four wheel drive? Needed if you live in a place with a lot of snow. I feel this car would be great in the west coast and perhaps in large cities such as NYC but up North not so much. The interior is amazing. Loving the seating and how bright and clear the light coloring is. Also the trunk space is larger the other cars I've seen. On another note, will they make other ones with more range on a "full tank" 400 miles isn't far if you drive as much as I do. I'd rate this car an overall 7.9 out of 10.

@Autogefühl Hey Thomas, Could you please in your future videos check the interior build quality of the cars by pressing the panels, central console, dash if it squeacks and your opinion about the materials that they are using... Thanks.

We do that but can certainly do it more often

The head up display is not redundant for 95% of the folks out there. You don’t have to look at the navigation at high speed. In a new city, the head up with those arrows come in handy.

It sure does

So Mercedes pumps in audio for the cla45s bit can't just make a sport engine sound a option on the EQS that's odd

Seen the sound mode part? In a way they did, but not in the combustion engine style way, As I wish to have some funny option

Do anyone know where the eqs have Keyless Go Convenience Package Plus, which adds powered doors that automatically open as you walk up to the car

Thomas, like the S Class, does the EQS have the road scanning technology to smooth bumps and active anti roll bars to keep the car level in turns? Thanks

Hi Thomas - great review and fantastic car!! How about tow capacity for the EQS? I haven’t been able to find anything about it. I think the normal S class has towing capability but what about the electric ‘sister’? Br Morten

Thanks 🙏 750 kg afaik

The electric SUV models will receive 1800 kg though

Absolutely Favorite Car channel- you are the best as far as i am concerned. I find (I am current S Class Customer-and trying to decide between new S-Class and EQS...) your views on the technology- screens and buttons spot on. I absolutely love the metal buttons in my current car- hard to imagine going from that to the crap, plastic haptic bulls$%t. And LOL on the vaccine comment, good luck with that!
