When it comes to performance, Subaru’s reputation mostly lies in building rally-inspired all-wheel-drive vehicles like the WRX STI. But, a joint venture with Toyota that resulted in 2013’s BRZ showed they can do affordable rear-drive sporty, too. So, let’s see what a road test of a new 2nd generation BRZ reveals next.

The new BRZ/GR86 give me such classic Porsche Boxster vibes. In looks and spirit. Can’t wait to scoop a GR86 next year so I can retire my ‘ol E90. Trying to find something comparable to the E90 (no turbo, RWD, manual trans) is almost impossible, but the GR86 really is close- just doesn’t have rear doors. Love these BRZ too, but want the Toyota badge.

They’ll never turbo it. The turbo FA24 has the turbo underneath the engine. There’s nowhere to put in on the BRZ without having to lift the entire driveline by about 8”…and that would require a redesign of the entire car. Don’t ever expect to see a factory turbo. It’s never going to happen.

@@senseicorey9979 I'm 100% confident you've never driven a well balanced rwd sports car under any sort of speed. A controlled drift coming out of a high speed corner makes running a moderately++ modded STi in the 1/4 seem like a snooze fest. If you have no idea why the Miata is as popular as it is (and for so many years), you should probably go get some more seat time before running your mouth online. I dailyed a 500whp+ evo ix and the original BRZ. Guess which one was more entertaining.

Excited about this car and the new Miata. For some reason it took both of these companies over 20 years to get similar performance to the Honda S2000. But even with a 20% bigger engine, it's still less powerful. But does have more torque to make up the deficit.
