I picked up my Blue Pearl BRZ yesterday. The handling is superb and you're glued to the curves and acceleration is exceptional in the automatic. You put that pedal down and your face is one big smile. The exhaust sound is VERY nice, starts off understated and then grows into a loud smile. Got the limited with the larger tires and glad I did. This BRZ looks great, RWD, 6 speed manual, nice interior, easy to maintain and had a fair MSRP at one point. I wish it had more HP/torque but for what it is, she's not that bad.

Great video. Loved my FR-S . In the future when everyone is driving around in overpowered golf carts these may be in high demand for the automotive hobbyist . Not huge production numbers less than 5,000 per year coming to the US compared to say a Mustangs 70, 000+ a year. Unmolested examples could be a big hit at Barrett Jackson, Mecum in 2050ish. 😁

@@mattmekhaeil watched an interesting review from The Topher on the new BRZ with the automatic. The automatic is upgraded on the new BRZ too, vs last gen, but still not on par with the one in the Supra. So his suggestion was if you need an automatic, spring for the 2.0. Easy to say, but i still think it is a substantial price jump. As much as I don't think an auto is the correct choice in this car, if it helps keep sales up enough to encourage continued production, I'm thrilled to have it as an optional offering. I'll take mine with the MT. Currently have a '17 MT Limited with Perf. Pack, and am enjoying the heck out of it.
@stephenhendricks1032 жыл бұрын
Sorry, Joe. The natural rival of the BRZ (other than the obvious TR 86 from Toyota) isn't the new Civic Si, a "sporty" FWD four door sedan. It's the Mazda MX-5 Miata, particularly the RF hardtop. The BRZ and TR 86, like the Miata, are true sports cars, the design descendants of British sports cars such as the Austin Healey 3000 and MG A and B. In terms of standard performance metrics (e.g. 0-60 mph), the BRZ/TR86 and the Miata are virtually identical at around 5.7-5.8 seconds. The Civic Si trails significantly at over 7 seconds. Of course, straight line acceleration isn't an adequate measure of performance. And on twisty roads or the track the Subaru/Toyota twins and the Miata are equally close. More power in the "twins" but lighter weight for the Miata. Virtually the only area in which the Civic Si surpasses the BRZ/TR 86 is overall versatility with a backseat where adults can be accommodated (albeit not for long periods.) And on that score, the twins top the Mazda in accommodating my large dog in a "plus 2" backseat. The Civic Si is an appealing vehicle but it's in a completely different category. The BRZ/TR 86 natural rival is the MX5.

I dunno if this changes your opinion on it being underpowered, but the car dynos at 209 whp (roughly 245 hp at crank?), which suggests Toyota had underrated the specs quite a bit. The car's already making more power than your typical tuned+modified 1st gen BRZ.
@marvinmurakami88282 жыл бұрын
This car has nearly the perfect amount of power. Perhaps 250 hp and 220 torque would be perfect. But like they say, it's a lot more fun driving a 'slower' car fast than a faster car slow. I don't consider this car slow by any means but it has reachable limits that you can explore without taking the chance of having your license suspended for an entire year.

I think the first gen had a sound tube that terminated up against the fire will to amplify induction noise, but nothing electronic. I didn't like the exhaust note on my '17 that much, so I went with a Borla Axle back and it feels more that is how it should have sounded out of the box. No drone at freeway speeds. The only drawback is any semblance of "stealth" under hard acceleration is gone. But the OEM system only sounded slightly menacing, and that was at cold start only.

Turbos complexify an engine, and should be avoided when possible. This is a really nice sounding car, and raw horsepower is not important; what is important is the fun factor. A high revving smaller motor is more fun. Let's face it, the speed limits don't allow one to go that fast, so it is more important to have fun while not speeding. Not a fan of low profile tires; our roads here in California are getting worse every day, and the potholes are serious. So a thicker tire is indicated. I like that they've kept this car fairly simple. Should sell well.

Can confirm it sounds like this. When you toggle sport mode it seems that's when the fake noise speaker comes on, and it's mostly just adding bass to the engine noise. It does not sound bad at all.

are they breaks as is good enough? good enough stopping power? or need for brembo? thanks for the review

Plenty of braking capability!

As for what I would go with? I’m a family man, so in warmer climates, I’d go with a Civic Si. Where it snows? WRX. Empty nester or childless in non-snowy climate, this would make a great daily driver. Two cars? WRX + Miata and get that roadster joy.

Awesome been waiting for this one. It looks so good I black

228bhp can get you into trouble, this is a great car. This car will speak loudly to a large demographic, for me 4 drs and a leap in interior quality makes the civic si more appealing. But I would definitely test drive both before making a decision. Great car 🚙

Heck, 150bhp can get you into trouble, if you get silly behind the wheel!
@kencur96902 жыл бұрын
@@cpl8168 lol, exactly. I don’t get these silly comments. In everywhere around the world apart from a very few places like small parts of Germany, all cars can easily get you in trouble. It’s not like contemporary cars are slow compared to current speed limits...

feels like the 2.4 is a better suitor for the brz/86 than it is for the WRX. Cant wait to see if they release a STI version for this platform
@RaitisRides2 жыл бұрын
There is not going to be an STI version BRZ.

There probably will be a tS "tuned by STI" version though. But it's mostly cosmetic stuff.

Does anyone else see a Mazda RX8 in this car but modern version. I’d really love an RX8 revitalized. Yes RX7s are cool but man the RX8 was so different looking forward it’s time.
