This design pretty clearly shows that Toyota had release of an EV low on its list of priorities, saw the amount of attention they were being given by the competition, panicked, and rushed a half-cooked design to production. The primary intention is to have something on their lots to show their famously loyal customers and perhaps keep some of them who have decided their next car will be an EV from leaving the brand. It's a stopgap product to keep them at least somewhat in the segment until they have a competitive design ready. They aren't building very many of them and will probably sell them all, so even though it's not a very good car they'll probably count it a success.

throw in some hills and temps in the teens, it's even worse. Just like gas engines though, environmetal impacts affect them. My 4xe has a pretty consistent 28 mile range in SC. Worst I've ever gotten was 22. My friend in PA has the same vehicle. He gets about a 24 mile range just because of all the hills, and that's perfect day w/ no passengers. If he immediately gets on the highway and goes 70+mph, his range drops to 19. If it's cold out, he gets about 17 and if he also turns on the electric heater he's gotten as poor as 13 miles. I'm thinking about asking him this winter to cram it full w/ 4 people and see if he could go as few as 10 miles on a charge (jeep conservatively advertises 21 mile range) The 4xe has a 17kwh battery pack btw, compared to this Lexus' 71kwh pack. The jeep also only weighs 500 lbs more. Based on KWH and curb weight, I predict this lexus getting best case scenario of 144 miles range, with a worst case scenario of somewhere in the 70s

why cut into profits if people will buy what you dish out. Toyota only last 2-3 years have drastically changed their design philosophy because South Korea is becoming a quick threat. Let be logical, as is exactly what Toyota/Lexus are. Majority of Americans considering an EV are not wanting an EV to be their only car. Lexus studied this and is aware that most buyers for a Lexus EV are already Toyota/Lexus owners and is more than likely going to be the secondary or third vehicle but not the only one vehicle of the household. They are also going to conservative route as well as being conservative with the materials it takes to create the batteries. Therefore, they did not need to build an EV that will get over 300 miles of range. And for those very very few people that this will be their only vehicle, they are allowed to get a loaner vehicle for road trips instead of taking the EV. Everyone needs to remember Toyota and Lexus are thinking 20-30 even 50 years down the road and their worldwide demographics, NOT ONLY the US. It’s is not a race. It’s about conserving and reliability.

Nope … from my understanding, Lexus says charging to 100% is fine. And in doing so predicts only 10% battery degradation after 10-years. Unlike others (such as Tesla) who “strongly” recommend charging to not more than 80% in order to better preserve the battery. eeee, 220 miles of range on a Lexus. I will tell you right now, the easiest way to have an un-luxurious driving experience is to have charge anxiety in your wonderful luxury car. Even the chevy bolt at 27k has 270ish miles of range. it's just not good..
@UhhhhhnooOOo00oO Жыл бұрын
150 real world miles (Maybe) of range, especially in 2023, is not enough. Toyoda (Toyota) just mails in electric vehicles. They dont want to manufacture them and know they arent as decent as hybrids today. Its also way too expensive for what you get. Awful by Lexus. They give you a Hybrid for 3 years. Thats acknowledged hiw bad their range and priduct is. I guess you walk or drive their vehicle to the dealership for road trips. This vehicle is a joke. The Nissan Leaf was a bigger joke...even at the time.

@@alejandronopasanada5302 I've said it for years. Why I have a Rav4 Prime. [I'll clarify that PHEVS are the best option.] I'd like one with a better lithium battery and not a Nickel Hydride one. Problem is:Huge demand and that costs more with hybrid technology and EV costing more, minus tax incentives. (If you can qualify.) Right now and for about the next 10 years, the hybrid is the way to go. Battery technology either charging will improve or othet alternatives and maybe then I'll buy one. I haven't used a drop of petroleum/gasoline in one of my hybrid vehicles yet. (Besides the prepping of the engine to not let the petrol/gas sit.) I'd never get a turbo or a 4cyclinder over a 6. To save 2-5 mpg and get less powet and more strain isn't worth it. Hybrids are the kings for now. Well PHEVS

Based on the statistics it's enough for over 98% of car owners in America...
@UhhhhhnooOOo00oO Жыл бұрын
@evrythingis1 What is enough? Explain your vague reply. EVs aren't great technology, extremely inconvenient, and usually more expensive and heavier than equivalent hybrids or petroleum based vehicles. When they have full EVs with 5 minute charging with zero side effects, cost and charging drawbacks. The oil industry created a 100 year deficiency in battery technology purposefully and now the consumer and the environment is being screwed. They held back the electric car. It wasn't Steve Guttenberg. ;) Simpsons did it. Maybe Charles Montgomery "Monty" Burns had a part in it as well.
@evrythingis1 Жыл бұрын
@@UhhhhhnooOOo00oO You can look up car driving statistics, it is quite literally good enough for the VAST majority of car owners in America (and nearly everywhere else). The issue is having access to a level 2 charger if you're in rental housing. Of course it is going to get even better, but it is completely senseless for every car to have double the battery capacity that people actually use, when we could have DOUBLE the EV's instead. What is the point of having 900 miles of range in every single car when people drive on average only 37 miles per day?
@TeufelHund Жыл бұрын
So basically you're stuck paying for gas on a long trip by getting a loaner. The benefit of an EV is to NEVER pay for expensive fuel again. What a disaster of a vehicle. 1/2 baked is one thing but come on... This is shameful for a 'legacy brand.'

Who in the world is considering any EV of any type if they drive 60,000-120,000 miles a year!? The range is meaningless unless you live in an apartment without the ability to charge at home.
@quickpstuts41210 ай бұрын
@@evrythingis1 I wouldn't say range is totally meaningless. Some people like myself prefer to have extra range buffer for their comfort level. I work from home but still bought a 315 range car because I wanted a larger "comfort buffer" on days where I may need to drive a longer distance. Not to mention I keep cars longer than the average person, so I wanted a decent battery range for the degradation factor over time. For someone who lives in an extremely cold climate that drives 75 miles per day, would seriously need to consider whether this RZ range is enough, especially if they want a buffer in extreme temps.
@evrythingis110 ай бұрын
@@quickpstuts412 Oh yeah, how often have you used that extra range? Not even one single time? You say that the extra range isn't useless, and then fail to provide a single reason for that statement. @quickpstuts41210 ай бұрын
@@evrythingis1 I wasn't trying to be combative so not sure why such a response about "deserving crap." Just explaining my reason. I respect what you're saying but I personally wanted the comfort buffer since I live in extremely hot temps and it's my first EV. I have been able to take road trips to the next state in the heat without needing to charge. Everyone's comfort level is different as a new buyer. I certainly could have done fine with 250 and I see that now, but some want buffers because this was new to me. It's all good either way. To each their own. I love Lexus BTW as a former owner.
