This is a special edition (hence the edit) that has the all new Mercedes V-2 engine to replace the V-8. Because a V-2 is much more German than a V-8.

I've had the pleasure to also drive the new 4x4 and one pet peeve of mine was when you turn on the digital rear view camera you can see the top of the spare tire along the bottom of the rear view mirror.

These 2 LED's on the roof front aren't high beam offroad lights but additional bi-funtional DRL's/clearance lights (in Europe they are required from factory due to vehicle height), so that's why they are disabled from the factory due to laws and light colour. It's actual lazy from MB side that at this price point they didn't replaced them for true high beams and similar additional offroad lights for American market just stuck some cheap LED clearance lights for DOT...

The new G63 4x4 Squared looks so much better then the old one. Living in Sindelfingen, Germany (until recently Mercedes Benz biggest factory in the world) I sometimes see Cars like this. I saw this one first when a neighbour took it home to test drive it and I was stunned, it looked awesome. Then I saw the old one and it really looked goofy. The G36 already is basically a huge fride. But this lifted car looked like if you would put a washing machine or a fridge on top of a giraffe.

I'd consider that color well worth the extra money, myself. Just love the color scheme of this in general, that matte red, and of course you can hardly ever go wrong with all black wheels. This car's way the hell above my paygrade but damned if it's not impressive.

Well, looking out of the window I see exact this mountain every day! 🤪 When the Puch G (now Mercedes G) was designed in the 1970s there was a test track up to the Schöckel summit. Graz has an elevation of about 300 m / 1000 ft, the Schöckel is at about 1500 m / 5000 ft. Nowadays there are man made test tracks right near the factory and developmetnt center.

An interesting item of note about the chassis of the new 4x4 squared is that unlike every other version of the new G-class, this version has a solid front axel. One of the major changes for the new version was independent front suspension for better on-road handling. The portal axels seem to necessitate a solid axel on this model.

Actually you can have those lights, and they can be wired up to be functional from the factory, however they have to be covered if they are functional. In the state where I live if you have those lights in order to pass inspection they have to work but they must be covered.

I recently saw an older model 4x4 squared truck parked in front of a Chinese seniors residence condo near my house when I was riding my bike. It was that highlighter yellow colour (gross!) and its stock lift height was so high off the ground. Pretty comical car. Didn't know it cost so much.
