amazing timing and awareness! But they need to let kid learn to play hockey while dfending themselves form the juniors again... this is degenerating in a lost generation vs bullies on ice. You can't remove it from pro hockey, they must learn it young. Sad but true. Like ending kids to army to have a force to protect a country.

Yeah, Refs in any sport take it from all sides but the players do respect them. It is we, the fans that "sometimes" disrespect them. They deserve more accolades and remember, there are no line changes, for these Zebras!! ;) Cheers from Montreal

The problem is that players that didn’t believe in a specific cause were being crucified for not taking part. And they should be able to decline participating without being crucified. It was politicizing the game. Everything these days seems to politicized. It’d be nice to get away from that and just enjoy entertainment without any agendas being pushed. I just want to be entertained, I don’t care about your politics. The players’ job is to entertain, not to push their own opinions on people. If you are politically/socially minded, there are other places to get that. An athletic game is not that. I believe the NHL got it right; no special causes, period.

One huge problem with the new NHL is that instigator rule. All it has accomplished is that players don't respect each other this brings the very dangerous stick swinging and predatory cheap shots. It took the passion out of the game and removed the great rivalry that had fans out of their seats. Calgary/Edmonton, Ottawa/Mtl, Rangers/Isles etc. When Cal/Edm play the battle of Alberta now it's about as entertaining as figure skating.

With the high stick it should at least be a more significant fine for the pay or at least 2 game suspension. It would discourage players from conducting safety violations. Kings scoring keeping pace with their expected goals differential. LA is scoring, but they aren't cheating to generate offense. They are still relatively stingy on giving up shots against while being soliid offensively. And they are scoring on all 4 lines, and all 4 lines are corsi positive. Contrast that with Vancouver who is maybe overachieving early and will at some point slide back to the mean... LA seems stable and deep.

I was at the Sharks-Canucks game last Monday where the Canucks won 3-1, the Sharks were already hungry as hell that night-the Canucks played a solid game and earned the win, but the thing is that they had to earn it. Sharks had to be taken seriously and the next game showed that. They’re still a bottom of the league team but you can’t take ‘em for granted anymore.

With all due respect to Ovechkin, I think "Dollar" Bill Wirtz dying and the Blackhawks becoming ascendant shortly afterward did as much to keep the league alive as Pens-Caps did at that time. The Hawks were an afterthought in a large sports market under his ownership and their revival was a significant financial boon for the league.

I think the most interesting thing to happen is how shocking the Bruins have been performing. Then it caught up with them, and now (as of Dec 4th) they seem to be getting back into it. I don't think anyone saw this coming. Losing our top 2 centers in Bergeron and Krejchi, as well as lots of key players in Bertuzzi Hall Hathaway Looch and the like, we are doing so much better than initially thought, holding 1st in Division, and 2nd in Conference and League. Much better than anyone thought

I've watched the Leaf's for years as I grew up in Toronto and there is one thing I've noticed certain Leaf players either don't pass or do it rarely and I would suggest they all do it more to create indecision in defensive players minds. Because right now there are a few players who don't give up the puck and teams only have to defend the player not all the players on the ice.
