The issues people have with the 4cylinder turbo are ridiculous If you drive it like a sports car it won’t last long but if you drive it like diesel then it could last a long time Low revs under 3000 rpm using that low down torque Drive like a heavy footed clown and you will junk it like everything else😅

Heck, i almost never put my foot down that much when i was driving and it's a small NA engine (1.5L). Driving smoothly & making the engine rev low will do wonders with your engine reliability in the long run.

@@dave3657 driving a vehicle in its peak torque band is normal If one is using the torque and the engine is built for it then it should be no different to running a V6 at higher revs to find that peak torque If you had a turbo diesel you wouldn’t be revving it out like sports car especially a truck where it usually has engine configured for low end torque Too many people think turbo and performance when these new turbos are designed to give good torque at low displacement The enemy of the turbo is heat ,higher revs all the time equals more heat and it is now out of its peak torque and pointless With 8 ratios there is no need for a heavy foot if you want to argue otherwise fine. The public has to educate themselves on how to use smaller displacement turbos correctly and get the old thinking of hitting the redline out of their heads

A lot of the EPA testing is done to simulate 50 MPH driving That it gets 23 in the real world is great. It won't perform like a Ranger Raptor, but it should offer above-average performance,with class leading MPG

Hey Kirk..I know Toyota been using the JBL in their models but I wonder if they could switch to another sound system in the Toyotas .. because in my Lexus with that Marklev sound man I wouldn’t trade that for nothing else 😁..but I think they should try something else in terms of sound in the Toyotas put that in notes for them ok

It's not the brand it's the system. I've heard great sounding JBL systems but the "premium" Toyota systems are anything but. Cheap paper speakers with weak sub. That was the experience with my 2023 Tacoma and 2018 tundra. Same system basically.

The EPA tests don't include hard acceleration bursts like you demonstrate. Given a reasonable approach, 213 MPG is most likely reasonable. I notice that every time the MPG gauge gets over the 21 MPG mark, you demonstrate the acceleration.

@@KirkKreifels Lights are automatic, the high beams in auto dimming mode don't work in daylight or that close to a car. You can report that to Toyota if that's really the case. I have two Toyota with wiper linked auto headlights and high beams, both don't turn on the high beams in daylight.

A stock TRD Off Road i-Force Max would probably average 25 mpg due to the smaller tires. I'm going to predict that the 25 Camry LE you tested will beat the base hybrid Corolla when you test it. And outperform it 0-60 by far.

@@chibbyylol Regardless of price there are some issues with the new taco. Internal bump stops with cheapo cast aluminum top hats will explode if you hit something just right Cast aluminum not a good choice as the shock will drive right up into the wheel well. What happened to the frame mounted bump stops? Other issue is no proper trans intercooler so the rear diff can overheat when towing or off roading. The transmission is also experiencing total failures with some drivers requiring a new trans. And those are on backorder. Back seat room is a joke but on the TRD the back seats are totally useless. Not even a 5 year old could fit in that. In all I think the QC on these new ones are pretty comical. Obviously they feel people don't intend to do anything but mall crawl. Allot of corners cut. This is a product of the new CEO big time.

My 2011 6.2L Yukon Denali gets an average of 18-20ish MPGs and 24ish on the highway. Granted, I live in the stix and everything is long distance, but the point is, sometimes all the fancy things they have to do now for MPGs is just making cars and trucks gutless. Just my thoughts.

Hmmmmm, my 2023 with the V6 natural aspirated on similar flat driving got 24mpg average over 217 miles on similar flat highway and some "interstate speed" on delivery trip yesterday. A full bed of bowling pinsetter equipment on the way up and and just my phat arse on the way back. Interesting how the mpg between the old V6 and this new I4 turbo are in similar range. My '23 Taco is a TRD off-road and is pure stock. No lift, no heavy tires etc...

My 2011 Yukon has the 6.2L and it gets similar mileage. I drive like a granny and it’s all country roads, but the points stands. It’s a truck with over 400 ft/lb of torque. Not these modern gutless look-a-likes. lol

I averaged 21.9mpg at the pump over 109K miles with my 2016 Tacoma TRD Off-Road. You need at least four 15-gal fill ups to get a real fuel economy, it's a decent start though.

They have the same flaw as the taco with the internal bump stops with the weak ass aluminum top hats. Plus no proper transmission intercooler. Buy a 2024 its the better 4 runner every day and twice on Sundays.

Induction gives you zero gain for MPG's. They do it for EPA regulations and lower C02. That's the only reason. You do gain low end torque but you better pray you never have to replace that turbo out of warranty. Turbos and hybrid systems only add more complexity. More crap that can go wrong.

6:06 I think you will get 20-21 mpg. On the first freeway drive home from the gas station I go to I 24-26mpg displayed when I exit the freeway. I loose about 2-5 mpg getting home uphills. I normally get about 18-19 mpg in mostly city driving. I have a 2023 Tacoma TRD OR Access Cab auto V6

@@ytj22 yeah. i am not sure how it works. i just saw a ford podcast where they talked about how they reprogrammed it to not shut off, as they said the shut off feature saves on gas some, but hurts engine life long term. this included the cylinder shutdown while driving at low drag. typical "green" bullshit. they call this carbon efficient -- while they wont count the cost of reduced engine life.

It should have the full Ecvt drivetrain without a turbo. Like the 245 in the Sienna. Make it RWD with E FWD. should be getting 35mpg easy like that. Maverick hybrid gets 40. I think they missed the boat with this one and reliability will suffer a lot a well long term I think. It probably better than the Tundra though.

Importantly new turbo I4/hybrid turbo I4 has been extremely reliable so far as well. These invalid attacks on the new Tacoma and engines are unfound lol

Turbos can last a long time if you drive them right. Warm-up and cool-down are critical. Oil changes should be more frequent than what the OCI calls for. Short trips should be avoided. Use good quality fuel, not that Seven Eleven crap Kirk filled up with. Turn off the start-stop feature. Those are just plain stupid. To be honest, though, you should do that with any engine.

Test drove a TRD off-road. Not impressed. Feels like a cheap interior. Too much hard plastic and very cramped, and the fuel tank is too small. I am 6’, 220, and shoulder room is awful. My brother owns a 2018 Tacoma Limited with horrible transmission shift issues. Despite this, I told him I would not bother with the new Tacoma.

New Tacoma has a excellent interior and doesn't feel cheap whatsoever compared to its rivals. Interior space in the new Tacoma is perfectly fine and if people really want more space they would buy a tundra or something. Overall full majority of people love and impressed. Nissan was the same way. i bought a 2023 Frontier because i could get the long bed in the work truck 4x4 version and i did not want the new turbo toyotas. now for 2025 the dash mounted screen looks much more integrated. cheers man.

Fuel mpg is based on flat grade at constant speed, gives best ballpark for most driving. Obviously most are smart enough to know towing stuff will lower it and only going downhill will raise it

For me it's not the mpg or 4 cylinder as much as the insane price tag. I wanted one really bad but after dealership mark-ups I was looking at 70k and that was for the off-road, not even the pro.
