It was also kind of a product tutorial on top of it. 18 minutes just packed with great info. Ancillary, it's been really fun watching your bass playing, compositions, and soloing progress over the years. To the point of the product, what you can get out of that $300 is just ridiculous value. I think it's amazing just how much power and control over sound has become available to musicians in the last few years. Heck, even just the last six or so months have seen some really powerful, attainable pedals and products come out that provide insane amounts of tonal variation and manipulation with high quality results. NU-X has been stepping up their gain and knocking some out of the park.

Unfair, trick question of the year - OF COURSE! Pete Thorn could make a kazoo and a digeridoo sound frickin' good... XD And such a valuable point to remind everyone, especially those that like to whine about tweaking modelers. Tweaking has ALWAS been the case in guitar tone safaris. But the fact is tweaking these days on modelers is objectively far, far easier. People just forget and take things for granted. Memory is faulty and we humans tend to only remember the good times clearly.

Yeah, I second Toontrack for sure. EZDrummer 2 is simpler to use and less expensive, but still sounds great. Superior Drummer 3 offers a ton more control and options. I've also heard that EXDrummer sounds have little more post processing on the samples, compression etc. to make them more production ready out of the box, whereas Superior Drummer samples are raw and totally clean (save the gear they were recorded through) to give the producer full control over the drum sound. Superior Drummer kits all have a bunch of mix presets included though if you want a shortcut to a more finished production sound. If all you want is a better drum sound than Garageband, you'll be totally happy with either.
