Pete... this was an amazing demo on all levels, audio great, composition great, video great, solo fantastic. It was also kind of a product tutorial on top of it. 18 minutes just packed with great info. Ancillary, it's been really fun watching your bass playing, compositions, and soloing progress over the years. To the point of the product, what you can get out of that $300 is just ridiculous value. Kudos!!!

I think it's amazing just how much power and control over sound has become available to musicians in the last few years. Heck, even just the last six or so months have seen some really powerful, attainable pedals and products come out that provide insane amounts of tonal variation and manipulation with high quality results. NU-X has been stepping up their gain and knocking some out of the park.

Unfair, trick question of the year - OF COURSE! Pete Thorn could make a kazoo and a digeridoo sound frickin' good... XD And such a valuable point to remind everyone, especially those that like to whine about tweaking modelers. Tweaking has ALWAS been the case in guitar tone safaris. But the fact is tweaking these days on modelers is objectively far, far easier. People just forget and take things for granted. Memory is faulty and we humans tend to only remember the good times clearly.

For $299 would you say this is better bang for buck than the POD go? I would feel comfortable using either one live, especially since they both take IRs well. I've never used these "preset" style modelers so the extra pedals of the POD Go are attractive, but with the included extra foot switch and easy to navigate presets I feel like the MG 30 would do everything I need. Yeah, I second Toontrack for sure. EZDrummer 2 is simpler to use and less expensive, but still sounds great. Superior Drummer 3 offers a ton more control and options. I've also heard that EXDrummer sounds have little more post processing on the samples, compression etc. to make them more production ready out of the box, whereas Superior Drummer samples are raw and totally clean (save the gear they were recorded through) to give the producer full control over the drum sound. Superior Drummer kits all have a bunch of mix presets included though if you want a shortcut to a more finished production sound. If all you want is a better drum sound than Garageband, you'll be totally happy with either.

Thanks, guys. The drums on my stuff are OK, But even though I play power-pop/alternative/whatever, I still prefer a hard driving drummer. The GB drums beat my old Alesis drum-machine, though. ☮️

Explanation on EQ is very clear. It seems to be very important for this unit as well. And I see the unit not connected through USB?

Hi Pete, did you try dropping the input trim to bring the gain settings back in line with what you would expect from the various amps? I found the global trim and EQ are the secret sauce to great sounds in the MG-30.

I'm super interested in their upcoming Trident floor unit, from what I've seen, it looks better than a great many things which are magnitudes more expensive! Could you please do a review when they send you one? I'm assuming they're going to send you one if they already haven't.

Do any current multi-fx offer a way to globally dial down the reverb 'wet' setting, so you can have a drier version of your presets for live use, without having to keep a full 'live' duplicate set, with the reverb 'wet' value being the only change?

This seems to be NU-X's answer to the Mooer GE200, which I own. They look almost the same and seem to have the same features including 3rd party IR loading. That's not necessarily a bad thing as I quite like the Mooer and this unit sounded as good to my ears. One thing this has going for it above the GE200 is the GUI. Great demo, Pete.

hey Pete....I wish you would do a vid showing in depth how you make your videos. Gear, software, cameras, syncing audio with your clips and so forth. Very interested in your work flow now that you seem to have streamlined a system that works for you after all this time.
