This was so helpful to me because I am not a beginner because I used to crochet alot of things. But now that I am older,I am trying to relearn how to crochet!! The major problem I have is trying to wrap the yarn around my fingers!! This tutorial as well as all the other ones are fantastic!!And I spend half of my day on Utube and so many of my friends kids are having babies and I want to be able to make things for them. I just have tried to look for cute patterns rather than practicing with all your fantastic tutorials. I must watch them half the time and with your help I think I can finally master this!! I was Finally able to get a yarn tension holder made. I even asked,at one point,if you would make me one and I would pay you for it. I thank you for all your weekly emails and all your new web pages etc. If I can finally master this, it will all be because of you:):) God Bless you and I will stay in touch. I had started a baby blanket and I was going to send you a picture of it, but I was too embarrassed because I think because the yarn is so bulky, half of the time I couldn't even find what stitch to go into!!! I started to knit it, but I have been forced to live in Healthcare center and noone around here knits or crochets.!! Now I found a cute car seat blanket and the baby is already here and I finally realized that it was too big of an undertaking. I am sorry this is so long , but I feel that you are my new friend ❤ and I wish you all the luck in your new home in Japan. You are brave. I will close this one for now but I will be in touch with you again!!

I just discovered this tutorial and I enjoyed it very much! Now, I'm not really a beginner (I learned how to crochet 45 years ago, at elementary school.) What I like to point out is that your crochet result is as unique as your handwriting. We can both do everything exactly the same and still have different results. The most important thing is what you said, Sigoni: It has to feel natural. So for everyone who is learning: keep practising and enjoy your crochet journey! 🙂

Thank you for this clearly explained tutorial. I've been crocheting for decades and noticed that different yarns require different tension techniques. For example, right now I'm working with a sport-weight acrylic yarn that's super slippery. To control tension with this yarn, I wrap it twice around my pinky, over and under, then wrapped around my pointer finger. For bulky yarns, no looping needed. Trial and error should solve any challenge. Now I'm going to make a tension regulator gadget -- that sounds so cool and could help with my slippery yarn.

My first few tries were crazy inconsistent, though I am for sure a tight crocheter. After watching this, and a bit of mindful practice, I realized that I was trying to make the loop exactly the size of the hook, which would leave no room for anything later. As I was struggling to pull the hook through, I was subconsciously squeezing the working yarn resulting in crazy tight stitches when I got it through and crazy blown out stitches when I overcompensated the slack.

Tension really is a pain. But everyone crochets differently. If you feel comfortable while you’re crocheting, then it’s okay if your tension is tighter or more loose than others. As long as you understand how to adjust hook sizes when gauge comes into play. I feel like I have a good grasp on my tension but even I don’t match the gauge of other designers. It’s trial and error 😊

Glad to see someone else who feels the same, I’ve crocheted for several years and definitely feel I’m in the “intermediate” category but I tend to crochet a little tight, I always thought the stitches looked better that way

Tension has always been what defeats me. My hands perspire a lot and that makes my tension weird so I'm definitely going to make the tensioner; thank you.

Switching to ergonomic hooks also helped my hands hurt less also taking mini breaks.
