Trying to do this kinds of logos for clients and receiving only bad feedback that they want something more obvious (as shown in the the example as "before") I'm really getting discouraged and unable to expand my portfolio with works that I like. I agree with him for companies of that size. The bigger you get as a company, the more exposure you have and you’ll want a simpler, more recognizable logo. On the other hand, when you’re creating a logo for a smaller niche business like maybe a small law firm or a personal trainer, I think it’s totally fine to include more detail and meaning into the logo since it’s not gonna be plastered everywhere. I think the criteria that determines what makes a good logo will vary based on the size and industry of the company. Hopefully that makes sense, but would love to hear other people’s thoughts.
@onuohaudeagha12554 жыл бұрын
You're absolutely right about that. Obviously, one will fail as a designer if he draws only a yellow rectangle on black background for a small private business.

I do not have years of expert tuition behind me but I have always stood by my gut instinct and a keen eye for what is good and what is not so good. I always test a logo in black and white and keep it as simple as possible. if you cannot doodle it in 5 seconds its too complicated.

Great tips. I agree Simplicity is key. I also love a logo that works well when it's inverted, perfect example is the Nike swoosh. I also love logos that make use of negative spaces.

I really love alot of logos designs but i would categorize my favorite ones with the experiences I've had with these companies. Since ultimately a logo is a visual identity and how they interact with audience is the most valued in my opinion. I cant help but not only choose soley in aesthetic but how they prove themselves. I would say nintendo's since I've had so many memories with the logo starting up in their consoles during childhood. Nike's beautiful swoosh has been a partner through my every training as a martial artist. Coca cola calligraphy is a personal favorite and a soft drink that has been in most social event or reunion. Finally the north face is another companion when i adventure and whenever I challenge nature.

I agree with this which is frustrating. I have 100 mark assignment around creating a brand. I feel like 100 marks requires complexity which is the opposite of what a logo should be.
@hqef6165 жыл бұрын
By appropriate that shouldn't mean expressive. I got critiqued by my teacher because she told me she couldn't understand what it's about. My teacher is quite the talentless failed artist who calls herself a graphic designer. I asked my friend that works in a big design firm for an honest opinion, he told me my logo was good and that the logo doesn't stand alone but is understood in context, that's why the logo doesn't need to convey absolutely everything. I wish I had teachers like Chris and Sagi at my school. It's good I have the content from the Futur that anchors me in REAL life. A lot of teachers become teachers because they can't get work in the industry. Never swallow what your teacher says mindlessly, except for the technical jargon (shadowline, x-height, etc.). Always do a background search on them see what their work looks like and just take their comments into consideration without being too attached. Just because somebody is in a position of authority does not automatically mean they know best.

I feel like every brand should have 2 logos One for marketing and one for recognizability (1 with text, 1 with only an image) That way you have one for merch (image) and one for paperwork and name recognition (text) Great example McDonalds has the M as their logo (image), but also the McDonalds logo that they use for their signs (text).

Great video guys. Based on that rules, how do i explain for my client that a logo should have those 3 characteristics? I'm not talking about a basic client, those kind of clients that think they know it all and just wanna do something that doesn't represent their brand at all. Could you guys make a video about showing the client that you are the well studied professional? thanks!
@ham29565 жыл бұрын
The word explain when used in context of talking to clients pains me. Tell, not explain, that those 3 things are the goal of the logo. I think one of the key things he said is that it should be easy to describe. Like in short sentence. Show your client that you are a professional with confidence.

I think its best that you incorporate your ideas and try to make it look like its the way they want it. Because at the end of the day it's their logo but also you need to show that you know what you're doing by making it simple, distinctive and appropriate.

i've made the same argument to clients: a logo should be simple, distinctive and appropriate. you may not "like" the logo, however... that does not fly with clients. it could be that the agencies i've worked for did not have proper strong creative leadership (a don draper) and they had weak account managers ("here, ms. client, do you like it? no? that's ok...")

Surely it depends on the conetext though, who the cleint is, what area their business is in, for example a local business like a tradesman logo shouldnt be so simplistic that its jsut a shape rihgt? because its not like building a global brand, you need people to recognise it but to the degree of company like GymShark. if its so simplistic for a local business then people wont even know what the company is.
