I’m a colour blind graphic designer (mild protan), yes i know that sounds dumb. When I applied to my graphic design school they invited me for an interview, they were concerned that I couldn’t be a professional designer with color blindness. I explained that I think there is more to design than just color and I think that my disability is not severe enough to limit my ability to create good looking designs. I also explained that there are solutions to color blindness like screen alterations and special glasses. They decided to let me in. Teacher where often surprised by my work and the use of color. It was exceptional from other students and it looked good anyways since only hue is effected with my color blindness. Today I’m running a profitable graphic design company and I’m designing may creative and good looking assets. Sometimes I struggle with a colorfull design, but this is often resolved by using technology and help from other designers. Moral of the story is that I don’t think a disability should be seen as a disadvantage and in today’s time we can use technology and the internet to our advantage. Keep fighting until the bitter end or until the sweet success!

That B&W filter was the best. Thanks for the tip.
@YVZSTUDIOS5 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately the B&W adjustment layer is not the most accurate B&W transformation. There is another very common method by using a black solid on top of everything and setting that to the blend mode "color", thus removing any color. But that's not perfect either. The best way is to use the sGray color profile. Just go into your Photoshop settings and set your color proofing profile to "sGray" (instead of CMYK). Now you can toggle it via Ctrl + Y, it's more accurate and you don't need an extra layer! :D
@fallingscalesmedia5 жыл бұрын
@@YVZSTUDIOS wow I loved the b&w tip, and being able to set it to sGray and hit cmd-y (on a Mac) is so easy and awesome -- TY guys! (btw to all those that want to do this, proof setup is in the "View" menu in Photoshop 2019

A small tip about using a black and white adjustment layer for checking your relative color values: by default, a black and white adjustment layer changes the value of your colors based on the color's hue and *will not* give you an accurate relative value. The Black & White adjustment layer is meant to emulate black and white film, where different hues would appear to be brighter or darker based on the type of film used and the different processes involved in developing it. To get a value-accurate desaturated image, either use a 50% gray layer set to the "Color" (or saturation) blending mode, or use a Hue/Saturation adjustment layer and turn the saturation to -100 in the Master channel.

I don't think the first grow is that bad. I mean, the second one is indeed better (simpler) but the first one looks funny and okay to me. Great video!
@wge6215 жыл бұрын
it kinda depends on the context, but I'd say those colors are pretty yikes to me as well. for a professional ad, i feel like this would only be appropriate if you're making something for Nickelodeon or something else for kids that's meant to indicate wackiness. I wouldn't use a similar palette for almost anything tailored to adults. keep in mind that all of this is subjective, but developing an eye for what works for certain contexts is ultimately how you become a designer, and it's why designers are often so choosy. understanding why something doesn't work is sometimes more important than why something did o work, especially when you're starting out
@Nonsonse Жыл бұрын
I agree! And the 2nd Grow looked a bit off too. The yellow accents on a mostly cool toned picture stood out, and not in a good way. They drew focus away from the main attraction - the word Grow.
