Im a nerd who winds pick ups, so I’m one of those few who knows the difference between them. If you’d like to know a quick explanation: JM pick ups are a type of P90, but their wound in a way that makes the tone super clear and bright. They’re less hot that regular P90s and are less fun under high gain(due to their exceptional brightness.)
@773Spair2 ай бұрын
@@DylanWOWilliams Is there a different response at each pick-up pole for each of the strings; or is there a uniform response from all of the poles in any/most pick-ups?
@CraigEllsworth Жыл бұрын
If the fret buzz is only at the first fret, try adjusting the truss rod. You only need like less than a quarter turn counterclockwise to hear a difference. Your neck might be bowed ever-so-slightly.
@donbishop6994 Жыл бұрын
An easier safer way is to cut a tiny piece of writing paper and place it between the string and nut. It also makes the string slide more freely when you bend. Takes 30 seconds tops. If you need more height fold it in half first. Easy peasy.
@erkmenesen8 ай бұрын
I have the same guitar, and I had the same problem. Like you said, it's just a quarter turn and good to go. One last thing to be careful with is intonation. It wasn't good, so it needed a bit of work.

Jazzmaster pickups have magnetic poll pieces, modern (newer than staple) p90 have bar magnets. Most squier and MIM fenders have p90 in jazzmaster covers. After shopping for a jazzmaser it seems like the only way most people can tell is by taking them apart
@eyeball2268 ай бұрын
A simplified explanation would be that in terms of magnets a P90 is like a big version of one of a humbucker's coils and a jazzmaster pickup is like a big version of a strat pickup.

Gotta say it’s a bit shocking to hear him say it beats is balaguer custom!! I just got one of these Harley Benton’s and I’m blown away by it. It’s not perfect, but it plays and sounds awesome. Fretboard needed oil, nut was too high, and some tool marks and imperfections…but this thing is amazing for the price. I’m wanting more baritones now! Tuners are cheapo but mine is holding tune just fine. Pickups sounds incredible for heavy stuff. I’ll sand down the nut and swap tuners but other than that it’s a keeper as is.

So, I'm definitely going to be picking this guitar up next month. I have been playing on a Schecter Hellraiser 6 string for years, usually in Drop C. About 2 weeks ago, I restrung it with the heaviest strings I could fit through the pegs (.62). Then for whatever reason, I dropped it to Drop A# just to see. I LOVED it, but the rattle was definitely present on certain frets. I tuned it up to Drop B, and it sounds great...but it's not the same, and I want to go even lower. I've found my sound after many, many years.
@michaelpartridge2049 Жыл бұрын
Feels kinda wild that you rank a HB over your Balaguer! Do you think there is a reason for that? Spec decisions on the Balaguer perhaps?
@xanderraymondcharles Жыл бұрын
yeah it was totally my fault. I don't like the flat tops with the hip shot bridge. Hurts my shoulder too much to get my shoulder at that awkward angle. Both my shoulders have been operated on twice so my injuries make certain shapes uncomfortable.
@thisguy2973 Жыл бұрын
What I think also happens, which has definitely happened to me, is the more you spend on a guitar, the more critical you will be about it. I had a strandberg Boden 8 and while it was cool, there were a lot of things that I complained about that I would’ve let slide had I spent half the price on a similar guitar. An expensive guitar should be mostly ready to go out of the box, but on a more affordable model, you might say “I’ll change the pickups/the nut” because splitting those expenses up over time has a lower initial investment.
@michaelpartridge2049 Жыл бұрын
@@xanderraymondcharles ah that's a totally justifiable reason! I have a Jim root jazzmaster, I love it, but it's been hard playing it for long times since I broke my wrist recently. However the flat top ony les paul artist sits much nicer.

I don’t know if you check older video comments but I’m not going to pretend I know any deep dive but if I had to guess and why I love them more than single and humbuckers is because P90’s are essentially single coils except they have less headroom so they can do those ridiculous low tunings with metal is exactly that. It’s why if you’re strictly using amp sims with extended range (I love my custom Kiesel 9 string with the thorium bridge and empyrean neck) is because you don’t have to worry about that analog headroom from the low tones with humbuckers being less clarity if you ran it through any analog tube amp/amp and cab in general. P.s. Go to bare knuckle and get their Pig90’s THEY ARE A DREAM! For your favorite Squier/Any baritone with P90’s.

Try hammering that second fret with one of those plastic head hammers... I heared that as these frets are all made by machine, they are usually even anyway, some just dont sit properly in the neck. It’s also only 27” and 3” is a huge difference! I have a 27” in drop a and 28.625”in drop F# and prefer the 27” more! Also the HB is $200 and yours is $1k+ so of course the fretwork is going to be much better on yours and shouldn’t have any fret buzz at all unless u have your action super low. Also with the 30” he’s using much thicker gauge strings than u are so that doesn’t help either
@gawainhoffmann9668 ай бұрын
Take a very thin pencil Use the graphite of it in the saddle notches and the string buss will be ok The strings often are too thick when it Come to baritone guitars and with the graphite it's easier for für strings to slide
