I would have considered Terry Bradshaw, Johnny Unitas, or even Bart Starr. Don't forget Starr was the field general during the Packers' dynasty of the 1960s which included a three-peat that saw them win back-to-back victories in the first two Super Bowls. The Pack won five NFL titles that decade.

The Championship games in 1958 and 1959 were electric in their excitement. Unitas was the name that everybody knew whether they watched football or not. He even won Superbowl V against Dallas and came in late in SB 3 and threw their only touchdown. Since the 80's game is more like Flag Football. Not only did John Elway lead the Broncos to two Super Bowl wins, he led them to five total Super Bowls. Some people used to say that Elway "couldn't win the big game", but the truth was those teams would never even have made it to the playoffs without John Elway carrying them there. It took the Broncos finally getting a solid running game, before Elway and the Broncos finally won those two Super Bowls. When Graham played the majority of players were college graduates while the exact opposite exists today. Not that many plumbers. There’d be absolutely no way Brady could’ve lasted 20 years in the NFL of the 1980s. And yeah, Montana never threw an INT in a SB, and was undefeated. He wasn’t there to lose three of them or around for those extra 5-6 to throw interceptions. Way I see it, as long as those two are at the top of the lists we see, that’s okay. The two can interchange one and two and I wouldn’t have a problem with that. Although I’m going to my grave believing Joe Montana is the greatest QB of all time.

@ Brady had one elite wide receiver for only 2 years of his entire career with the Patriots. Can you imagine if he had Jerry Rice the majority of his career like Montana had? Brady threw touchdown passes to over 80 different receivers over his career. Montana had consistent receivers throughout his career.

If Super Bowls are what counts most how can you exclude Terry Bradshaw, Bart Starr, Roger Staubach, Troy Aikman, Big Ben, and even Eli Manning? Especially Bradshaw.
@FootballLoreOfficial2 ай бұрын
It's not all that counts, it's what I think is most important. However I also think overall yards, touchdowns, and ratings matter as well. I am going to do another video about older QB's who played in a different era where season stats were lower. Main thing holding back Bradshaw, Staubach, and Starr is their overall yards/touchdowns. I would put almost everyone you mentioned in my top 10. Just not top 5.

This list is ridiculous. It only looks at qb's who played after the rules changed to protect the position. Bradshaw, Johnny U. and Otto Graham should be on the list.

Do you know how to read all time statistics? Let me put Otto Graham at 1 even though Blake Bortles has as many passing yards? LOL
Ailmam does belong on that list. Not only did you win three Super Bowls but he had to do it hamstrung by Jerry Jones being the general manager of the Cowboys that should be a trophy all by itself dealing with Jones

My top 10 in order would be Brady, Mahomes, Montana, Manning, Unitas, Rodgers, Elway, Staubach, Luckman, and Baugh. To me Luckman and Baugh are top ten for their pioneer status. Elway and Staubach were very similar. Both were highly competitive duel threat quarterbacks who weren't always at their best but were very clutch and usually found ways to come through and win when games were on the line. The top 6 are pretty obvious. I don't see Favre as a valid top ten candidate due to a multitude of season ending soul crushing interceptions such as to Dawkins, Webster, and Porter.

Sorry. All these quarterbacks mentioned had the luxury of being protected by NFL rules. They were treated like China Dolls. Truly the greatest quarterbacks operated in the '60s and early '70s. These were real tough men! Johnny Unitas being one of the standouts!
@VíctorManuelSolísMacíasАй бұрын
There was a rule changed when Brady missed the season due to a hit to his legs, so I´d say nowadays they ARE treated like China Dolls. For QB toughness watch any Steelers vs Raiders game in the Chuck Noll vs John Madden era, and you´ll see Bradshaw being beaten like nobody is beaten today.

All of those great QBs mentioned were outstanding in their era and should be lauded as the GOATs of that time. There is no way you can play records of one era against another due to rules, equipment stadiums and weather, etc. but certainly the earlier eras were tougher wherein some of the "greats" played both offence, defense and and the entire game. I am a ninety yo who has seen a whole lot of football, both Pro and college and I can say that it is impossible to pick a GOAT.
@FootballLoreOfficialАй бұрын
I think Tom Brady having played in 20% of all superbowls and winning over 10% of them makes him the undisputed GOAT.

In my opinion, the only quarterbacks that should be considered the greatest are the ones who were the best of the era in which they played. Here’s my list. Sammy Baugh Otto Graham Johnny Unitas Roger Staubach Joe Montana Brett Favre Tom Brady Patrick Mahomes The order of this list goes from earliest to latest. It’s a combination of stats and championships from the eras in which they played.

People who say Otto graham have lost their mind as Otto played before Super Bowl era where regular season was only 12 games and post season 1 game. Also Joe Montana played before salary cap era so winning 4-0 is useless as you can sign any talent u want. Rules were changed to keep players from getting hurt unlike before salary cap era where defense was reckless. Enjoying football while keeping players safe is the way to go.
@FootballLoreOfficial2 ай бұрын
I respect Otto Graham, and Sammy Baugh, but youre 100% right. How am I supposed to compare people playing 13 games a year, in offenses that really weren't as pass heavy as we have today, to people with 5 times as many passing yards, championships, and touchdowns. Obviously these guys playing more games are going to blow them out of the water statistically. Thank you for understanding my logic on the list.
@stealthbomber2127Ай бұрын
The game is total shit nowadays, can't block or tackle worth a damn. The Back to Back Cowboys would destroy any salary cap team, including brady and manning teams because the Cowboys O Line would brutalize today's defenses with violence, precision, and power.

The only 2 that belong on that list 100% is Brady and Montana and I have always hated San Francisco and New England, but I have to admit Montana is the coolest Quarterback under pressure, Brady not so much except for his come from behind win against the Falcons and I can't argue against him being # 1 , 7 super bowls and having played for so long and still performing at a high level at the age of 40 it's totally unbelievable.. If Mahomes can continue to play at the level he's playing right now, he might be able to catch Brady but injuries are difficult to avoid, so we have to wait and see.

Elway wouldn't have beaten Cleveland in the first AFC Championship game if the collective morons known as the Dawg Pound hadn't been pelting players and officials with dog biscuits and D batteries at the narrow end of the stadium that Cleveland was hosting the game in (Cleveland Municipal Stadium). Because of this asshole behavior the officials did something that has NEVER been done since. With minutes to go in the game they REVERSED the field to prevent the batteries and dog biscuits from hitting anyone. It was only at that point that Elway was able to save Denver's season by marching the Broncos down to the other end of the field and scoring the game winning touch down as the final minutes were running out. The Browns didn't have enough time to get a corresponding touchdown and lost the game. I am NOT a Browns fan by any stretch of the imagination, but I am convinced that they would have beaten the Redskins in the Superbowl in 1987.
