As a folkstyle wrestler I recommend skipping the judo and learning wrassling. My HS level wrestling beats black belts in judo.

My bjj classes are decided by the teacher. For example right now It's a lot De la riva with specific grips (same side collar/sleeve/ankle) with sparring rounds that start from there. How can you train the stuff you feel you need to work on when I can't decide where to start from? Open mats?

Tonyklick open mat . Lots of gyms usually have them or find a group of guys invest in a rollout mat. Boom drill whatever you want . Whenever you want

Simple trick to defend the rubber guard, use a pin the poke a hole in the tip. Your friend and his girl may hate you after words though.
