8:57 Learn more about iodine!
Today, we're going to talk about the signs and symptoms of iodine deficiency.
Many people have low iodine. You're likely iodine deficient unless you consume shellfish, seaweed, sea kelp, or vegetables grown on the coast.
The level of iodine in your body really depends on the level of iodine in the food you eat and the soil it's grown in.
If you're deficient in iodine, you could end up with a hypothyroid condition.
The top symptoms of hypothyroidism include:
• Swelling in the lower part of the neck
• Difficulty losing weight
• Dry hair and dry skin
• Thinned hair
• Constipation
Overlooked signs of an iodine deficiency:
1. Estrogen dominance. Iodine helps regulate estrogen and helps prevent estrogen dominance. It also supports detoxification.
2. High cortisol levels. Iodine helps normalize cortisol levels.
3. A hypothyroid condition. Hypothyroidism can cause the cholesterol in your body to be elevated but unusable for making vitamin D, cell membranes, and bile.
4. Side effects when consuming soy products. Iodine helps buffer the estrogen effects of consuming soy products.
5. Hashimoto's. You still need iodine if you have Hashimoto's, but not excess iodine. You may also need selenium, zinc, vitamin D, and myo-inositol.

Iodine CHANGED MY LIFE... i've always had cold hands/feet and i used to feel tired allllll the time (and people were calling me lazy for years)... And i checked my hormones and i think they were normal... But since i tried kelp.. Now i can't live without it (now i'm even getting pharmaceutical grade iodine which is faster acting than kelp). If i had to take just 1 vitamin/mineral for the rest of my life, it'd be iodine

@@pamelacave5515 I get it from the local pharmacy... It's more expensive though..I think the molecule is called "potassium iodide". Personally i'd recommand kelp: it's natural and very affordable and they have the same effect, it's just the synthetic one is a little faster acting

I've read that another sign is intolerance to cold temperatures. All throughout my young adulthood, I absolutely hated the cold, hated winter. Once I started supplementing iodine about 10 years ago, I suddenly found myself not nearly as bothered by cold, don't need to bundle up much anymore.

Omg when I was 18 I left to live and study in Australia to learn English, first doctor check and she used the word CANCER of cervix stage 4, I hardly understood English but cancer word was for me in 18 like joke….I AM 30 NOW and I am found my answers no one female doctors , which I been changing them all those years could gave me an answer on my extremely heavy period, nearly constant, and that early age stage 4 cancer of my cervix well, all that treated with hormonal pills for so many years I become so emotionally unhappy depressed even I was having the best life I could have. I started ordering our sea kelp as I chooses to be vegan few years ago and I must say I think I am getting better…no breast tenderness, no constant heavy period and mainly have my answers and no more I am desperately begging for help in female doctors clinics which they just give me hormones which made my life miserable in such a young age. Please keep doing what you doing each of us always find their thing and mainly knowledges and answers for what we will never do from doctors all this connections with food science inside our body…and my mom is doctor with very good prescription skills lol ❤❤❤❤❤❤

If you live near a dairy farmer who spreads the cow manure on the fields that is a good source of iodine for the soil. Dairy farmers use lots of iodine as teat dip for controlling mastitus in cows and much iodine makes its way into the daily manure removal. I use this manure to grow my garden veggies each year. I never tested it but that iodine has to e in the manure as there is a distinctive odor with the iodine that I can smell in the manure.

I suffer from fibrocystic breasts, I was diagnosed last year after having pain throughout my life. My hormones are fine, but I knew that something wasn’t right. I researched a lot about it and found out that the pain and the cysts might be caused by lack of iodine. I found a product made just for that, it has iodine and selenium. I started taking it every morning for four months and it has been a miracle. I don’t have any pain in my breasts and I am so happy! My thyroid levels were fine too, but that just means that the thyroid is taking every little bit of the little iodine it finds in you body, so the other organs that need it get nothing. Also investigating a little more, I found out that it helps the ovaries, uterus and cervix. Thank you Dr.Berg for sharing this information. Regular doctors never check for these things, sometimes is better to go to a naturopath to help your body naturally and not with chemicals that at the end can cause harm.

It all makes sense now. A few months ago, my Dr increased my iodine because I was complaining about my hair falling out. That has stopped but the last week or so I noticed my pants are a little lose and my right neck doesn't hurt even though I haven't changed my eatting habits. I'm thinking that I am probably estrogen dominant with a bit of bile sludge. Hopefully he keeps me on this dose (2x/week) because it seems to be doing good things for me. Thanks for explaing iodine and sea kelp.

Please address hyPERthyroid. I was recently told that it was also caused by an iodine deficiency because bromine and other "ines" in our food fits the "iodine slot" in our bodies so we don't absorb iodine. I know that there are a lot of bromines in baked goods and even our flour. So if I avoid that, I still need to purge out the stuff stuck in my body. This is how I understand it anyways. A video for the HYPERTHYROID population would be greatly appreciated. The endocrinologist that I saw told me that I would need to take a pill to suppress my thyroid. Then in a couple few years my thyroid would completely shut down and I would then be put on Synthroid for life. I think this is a horrible "solution" but this is what modern medicine recommends.

Omg that is soooo useful. Especially that i have one child which has a rare genetic problem, that was newly formed during the pregnancy. And i keep searching the reason for it but cant get to it. However i had problem with the thyroid while pregnant and since. I also have very dry akin, loss of hair and endometriosis. It is crazy how related i feel to that information and iodine 😮

I have swelling in my neck, I have no problem losing weight, I have dry skin better in summer, dryer in winter. I have brittle nails. My grandmother had a goiter, my mom had hers partially removed and I have a goiter, and my oldest daughter. Seems like it runs in the family. I have skin tags small ones around my neck. Thank you Dr. Berg for this video that might help. My thyroid levels have been checked but they say it's fine. I am not on any medications. I was given meds over 20 years ago because my heart was racing and blood pressure was up and thyroid levels were off. A low dose of blood pressure medication and low dose of Synthroid was prescribed for me. After a few check up I was taken off both medications. One specialist said if my goiter comes back she going to shoot the messenger 😮 I was told not to take kelp, iodine or any mess like that. Her words not mine. I would like to treat it naturally. Now 20 years later she has retired. I didn't go back to her anymore. 😊That was my mom's doctor. I need someone who knows what they are doing.

I used to have ovarian cysts. But I started supplementing iodine (and selenium at same time) daily, the cysts go away and stay away as long as I'm supplementing. My periods are also lighter and shorter, more regular (Dr. Jorge Flechas has spoken about the other benefits women see with iodine, including the regular periods for women who were irregular). If I miss some days, the cysts tend to come back. Apparently I need it. Can't give advice on how much to take. Dr. David Brownstein is another doctor who uses iodine with his patients, if you want to try finding more info.

So, Ive had an issue with migratory sores appearing on the left side of my tongue. They seem to be cyclical where they will appear and then heal over the course of a week. Overall my tongue has also been inflamed and mouth has been dry, resulting in a scalloped appearance. Ive tried so many things and as soon as I think something has worked it just comes right back into its cycle. Several weeks ago I started taking iodine drops and it has improved dramatically over that period. Dr. Berg, if you see this - Is this my imagination or are there any mouth related symptoms that would have something to do with iodine levels? Am I over simplifying a complex system?

I keep asking my doctor about the correlation between hashimotos, gall bladder sludge and stones, bowel issues, high LDL, and more. He just wants me to take laxatives and statins and go on my merry way!🙄 I am on levothyroxine, and they keep upping the dosage. I have a referral to an endocrinologist, and I'm praying I get some better direction. I've been dealing with issues for years, and I'm tired of gaslighting and paying others for subpar care.
