My biggest issue with Resurrections was simply that it was overly meta, to the point that I just couldn't take it seriously. When my wife and I watched it, we just kept asking each other, "Is this a parody of The Matrix? So, by the end of it, we both just shrugged our shoulders and said, "Well, that happened, and we can't get that time back."

The One doesn't exist in this new version of the Matrix. The Architect made the previous versions and see the One as an anomaly of the Matrix. The reason for this is because, unlike the Analysist, he didn't understand human emotions. He needed the One to be reinserted into the source so that he can analyze the data collected, trying to get a better understanding of human emotions. The Analysist didn't need the One to collect data because he already understood human emotions when designing a new version of the Matrix. His moment of discovery was actually the moment he understood human emotions. Ironically, in the current version of the Matrix, the Analysist wasn't trying to analyze human emotions like how the Architect was doing in his version of the Matrix.

Anybody who has watched the ending of reloaded and the Architect's monologue would have known that the Amonaly code itself is The One. And by the time resurrections released there were already 3 anomaly carriers. And thats exactly why they had special powers. Also Trinity kissing Neo to save him from death again kind of lets me think that the zion reality is a sim too. Thats one crazy mystery still going on after 20+ years of this franchise.

Isn't it that ZION or the new IO symbolically represent human body where mind arises through interactions with other minds forming The Matrix? And the purpose of any one is to realise that the one is neither mind nor body but a continuum connecting body and mind aka consciousness which is what is shown in Revolutions depicting peace is within when body and mind are one and the same where the problems arise only by separating mind and body. And exactly the consequences of separation is explained in Resurrections and to reconnect just by bringing back memories from past but not through realising consciousness as Neo did in Revolutions. This explanation is what most of humans realise that we cannot realise reality as it is but only an illusion of reality.

One of my favorite things about the trilogy is how it plays with the Hero's Journey archetype. The first movie sets it up in the classic way, the second movie totally deconstructs it and the third movie reconstructs it in a way that's "real". Resurrections adds even more layers to the whole thing!

The One was just another form of control, but Neo's desire to save Trinity & his willingness to gamble with humanity's life in the hopes of not perpetuating another cycle of control and freeing humanity at the end of Reloaded, and his dedication to peace (even at the cost of his own life) in Revolutions is why he's really a hero. It makes you think and that alone makes it so much better than most other movies. I didn't know people were complaining that Trinity was the new 1 replacing Neo. There was a huge difference between the Anomaly and "the One" as the machines saw the One anyway. Neo really was still the One for Zion, because if Neo had returned to the Source in Reloaded all of Zion would have been destroyed anyway and only a few people would have been selected out of the Matrix (16 female and 7 male) to rebuild Zion. But Neo was the Anomaly who saved Zion, and being the Anomaly was much greater than being the Machine/Programs One. I am very Conservative in my politics and I loved how it was Trinity saving Neo from falling at the end. Neo saved her from the Matrix in Matrix 4 by winning the fight for her mind against the Analyst and then she physically saved him from falling at the end which would have killed Neo. I thought Matrix 4 was awesome. The movies became more and more intellectual and philosophical, and did not need the action for them to be great movies in my opinion. I wish Matrix 4 would have another movie after it, Matrix 5 to explain more about what the Analyst was saying at the end. But it might just be better to leave the audience to guess that maybe the Analyst was just mad he had lost control over them and that's why he was ordering them back to their pods, because Matrix 4 resolved all of the other movies so extremely well. I am not trying to say today's audiences are stupid at all. I just think in a time where people take things literally, they have more trouble getting their minds around movies like the Matrix that aren't as straightforward.

The 4th was a bad movie, that had a lot of good ideas, but terrible execution. They tried to cram like 5 hours worth of story and plots into 2.5 hours. If there were ever a case of a movie needing to be split into part 1 and part 2, this was it. Part one should’ve ended with Neo & Smith both waking up and remembering who they really are, and two picking up right after. That way, Hugo Weaving could’ve reprised his role in the second part. Having him played by a different actor just didn’t work.

Anything is possible. The One is prophesized to destroy or "end" the matrix. So as long as they are still using it there could be more. But on the other hand if the meaning was just about where the anomaly ends the matrix to reboot it. Technically it happened after the first reboot and is an endless loop of ending every matrix only to restart it again. But also they ended #4 without the anomaly returning to the source to input the next reset. So who knows.

It may be reading too much in, but the way The Architect says "I prefer counting from the emergence of one integral anomaly to the emergence of the next", it just struck me, seems to imply that there is a lot more potential complexity to the process than simply: 1. Newly designed Matrix is booted up; 2. Integral Anomaly arises; 3. Integral Anomaly returns to the source; 4. Matrix is redesigned based on feedback from the Integral Anomaly; 5. Start over at 1. If that were always the cycle, why not count from the design of one Matrix to the next, or as I wrote it above, from the boot up? It's very interesting that the Integral Anomaly is the most reliable anchor point - and of course, as orderly a personality as The Architect would count by the most reliable anchor point, rather than an arbitrary point of "beginning".

Something I learned a long time ago about the movies made by the "whatcha ma callem" siblings is that their are all ment to philosophical and allegorical. Their not made to entertain but to make people use their heads and analyze the symbols and get the deeper meaning of the films and learn how they relate to real life. But now a days people just look at stories not as something to kearn from and expand their minds and perceptions about the world and themselves but just as sources of entertainment and nothing else. They just turn off their brains and hope the movies and stories distracts them from life long enough until they "finish" said life without having to think about anything meaningful that they would have to actively apply to said lives because that would be "just too freaking hard".

I dont think Trinity became the One and pushed Neo to the back burner, i think it’s a shared role now, the source code is active in both of them.. Neo gradually demonstrating One powers as he relearns his capabilities (ie: stopping bullets and Neo blew up the wall at the Analysts apartment)and Trinity discovering her new powers.. and at the very end they were both flying.. also, the key statement the Analyst says “alone, neither of you are significant..” its when theyre close that the powers awaken.. together they both are the One

So did I, and I agree. I don't get why people have so much hate for it. It makes me want to see more. The only part I disliked was hiw long they dragged out the last action scene. Unless I missed something they could have used the roof of any building to take the lovers leap off from. The Analyst had bullet time freezing power to use at any time up until Trinity awoke, chose Neo to reconnect and realized she had the power of flight instead of Neo. The Analyst seems like he was holding back or "playing" along his part more like he wanted it to happen. Just my observation.🤔

The plot isn't the issue. It's the whole tone and delivery. The 1st Matrix has a certain tone. Then R&R came in with a slightly different tone but the underlying soul and feel of the 1st movie was still present. (Man I remember going to the movies 7 times to watch Reloaded...it was literally like a Rollercoaster ride for me). But anyway, this movie felt almost like a parody of The Matrix. I get what you're saying and I agree that this plot could have worked. But man...the delivery was garbage.

I always believed that the action and particularly the Kung-fu parts of the films were an essential part of the story. Each character had their own combat style that was choreographed appropriately. If Resurrections simply got the Kung fu parts right, that alone would have made a huge difference in my opinion.

@ 5:46 even after realising that the Analist's speech at the motorcycle repair place was a total callback to "Bullet Time", it wowed me because it felt more like System Administrator's superpower. Some music producers (I included) for long love the possibilities of Timestretch and Pitch-shifting, and doing it live and effortlessly is sheer fun, so I imagine The Analist's sick fun torturing Neo...and abhor it.

Wasn't the concept of machines using humans originally supposed to be for processing power instead of a energy resource? To me none of those uses seems logical since computers are far faster at computation and there are far better sources of energy such as nuclear power. The more efficient method would be to eliminate humans and use nuclear and hydrogen power, and probably clean the atmosphere to bring back solar energy

I think the big misconception that made people dislike The Matrix Resurrections was them assuming it came from a worse place than it did. There is a lot of soul in that movie. But I think like with the sequels back in the day a lot of people didn't get it and then assumed it was another cash grab exploiting nostalgia. I went into the movie fearing that that's what it would be, and I had the biggest grin on my face for the first few minutes as the movie assumed I'd think that, parodied it and then surprised me hugely with where the story went. I'm a huge fan of how personal Resurrections feels. I can really feel the change in Lana between it and the first three movies. There's such a deep appreciation of humanity in there. But yeah. The sheeple don't want this... sentimentality. They want Neo and Trinity back in their pods, conforming to their expectations. (as much as I think the word sheeple is silly and reductive)

There is a difference between sentimentality, nostalgia and consistency with cannon, both in terms of mythos and tone. The reason people hated Resurrections is because it showed considerable disdain for the tone and established mythos. The film set out to not be a cash grab, but did so by making a joke of the concept of a cash grab - because apparently Lana thought the meta was clever, poignant and ironic. But what it ended up doing was hollowing the sincerity of the tone of the original trilogy; postmodern-ifying what was essentially a classic hero's tale and turning it into social critique (which, frankly, is played out). I agree that the film feels personal. It feels much more like a quirky essay than a Matrix blockbuster, but why would Lana make it under the auspices of that IP? She could have told this story with entirely different characters in a completely different setting, with far less confusion and fewer misdirects. But she wouldn't have a built in audience with the name recognition. An audience that largely felt betrayed and consequently fled the film following initial reviews. Everything good an essential to Lana's personal film has nothing especially to do with the story or the characters - they were mannequins with an in-built universe which she used hang her opinions on. The Matrix story didn't demand this commentary. In fact, no one NEEDED another Matrix movie. It was mandated and it consequently felt entirely perfunctory and contrived.

im not someone who goes around and claims to be an expert on things, but when it comes to the matrix (my favorite movie trilogy) i can confidantly say i am. ive read the comics, played all the games, (including MxO) and could teach a college course on philosophy based on a few of the animatrix shorts. i swore that i wouldnt watch the fourth one because i was sure hollywood would ruin it with woke bs like every other series it tries to (funnily enough) "resurrect." when i heard the criticism i was glad i didnt watch it. case in point: trinady being the one, it makes no sense. the cycle of restarting the matrix and the program running so long that the one comes as the result of the program destabilizing is gone. it could be argued that after neo returned to the source in revelations and re-inserted the prime program facilitating the function of the one and restarting the matrix and there for the series of events leading to a new one, however that still would exclude trinady because she would not be a new human born inside the matrix who later becomes the one. i am positive lana butchered a lot of the lore from the games and comic books to write her new story, and im sure none of it was politically motivated.

Neo had to go through the Hero's journey to become the One (or at least the current version of the One). In Matrix 4, Trinity's hero journey was telling her obnoxious husband to piss off and then she became the One. You're doing some pretty Matrix-level mental gymnastics to try to find fault with people who didn't like this POS movie instead of accepting what's evidently true: that this wasn't a Matrix story. It was Lana shitting all over the franchise because she didn't want WB to create another story. Saying that people didn't like M4 because it didn't have bullet time effects is also a reach. You're just cherry-picking whatever suits you to defend the indefensible. Last, no, we didn't expect a Marvel-esque version of Matrix. We expected The Matrix; not Lana complaining about the film industry and telling us that we are so dumb for liking the first Matrix. You are nowhere near to being objective or at the very least open-minded about the Matrix 4. Even though extremely well-versed in the Matrix universe, you blindly chose a side, constantly reaching (ie the assumption that people din't like M4 because Neo didn't have super-man powers), cherry-picking and assuming that people didn't like M4 for extremely shallow reasons. This shows that you are far from objective and that you're stubbornly trying to put down every person that didn't like this garbage instead of acknowledging that the Matrix 4 is not even a Matrix story. 1:33 so i disagree with you on both parts, personally i think that Neo was ""the One"" but that that changed with the Matrix/reloaded when the code of the one was implanted into agent smith then with Resurrections the code of the One was passed onto Trinatry too (which would mean that the One is now a Trinity of people, each one of them holding a part of the code or maybe a copy of it but i think the code been split into 3 is far more fitting) if i had to guess ied say that Neo passed on the One Code when he brought Trinity back to life aka Neo needs to stop putting bits of himself in others, he evolved Agent Smith when he jumped inside him in the first film and he evolved Trinity in the third film when he saved her. so now there is 3 the ones or the One is split into 3 parts each one stronger than a normal person but its when they come together that they become unstoppable.

I was confused the first watching of 4. Then on the second time watching 4 so many piece fell in place. Then I compared the first matrix with the 4th and saw how much better the camera work was… how much more real world it felt for example as the officers step into the puddle water for example in the opening scene. Also the bullet time seen with the apple blew my mind. When I read how they shot it I was like “yes”… I just needed to get past my infatuation with a movie made decades ago clouded my vision.

I don’t think one is better as both have very intentional filming processes, the first is supposed to feel otherworldly and mindblowing, the fourth is filmed more naturally (like the matrix is more convincing) and doesn’t have much action scenes ambitions as the firsts

Yes. All of this, yes. Trinity was never "The love interest" or a supporting character. M1 and M2 both begin with her being literally the most badass character ever, she is the first human who kills an agent, she is always quietly driving the plot forward, she is the one everyone looks to for direction, Morpheus trusts her implicitly. And let's not forget, she was always Neo's commanding officer on the Neb. I believe that she was a potential even before Neo resurrected her in M2, and that's why the Oracle made her (gave her) the key to the One. She was the one who finally set the "prophecy" alight. If SHE hadn't fallen in love with Neo, he would've never been able to activate the anomaly. We've been saying this for *years*. Trinity Supremacy.

I had always been of the opinion that the Oracle is more dangerous than the Architect. Don't fear the obvious monster, fear the monster in a mask. Ya see, they are both Administrative level programs with different overarching functions. Architect doesn't call Oracle 'Oracle' because it's a humanizing term, and he is all about precision and min/max efficiency. This is why he speaks very distinguished and uses high level words to convey messages with ease. He doesn't think, he simply tells it like it is. The Oracle doesn't call the Architect 'Architect' for the same reason, it's a humanizing term, and her function is Human Interfacing and Manipulation in cold terms. This is why she speaks warmly and in 'old wives' speak with interlacing proverbs. She doesn't lie, but is very cautious with words to allow you to interpret what she says at your own discretion. It's an non encroaching manner of bringing a personality around to your view point without dousing them with the inevitable severity of the situations at hand. Both the Oracle and Architect studied aspects of humanity as seperate entities for multiple versions of the matrix, the Oracle has studied the human psyche to the point of understanding the necessity of imperfections to allow for the illusion of choice, and it's why the Oracle makes it a conscious effort to mock the Architect without actually berating him to humans who know of him. The Architect on the other hand views the inclusion of the necessity of choice and imperfections as an anomaly in an otherwise perfectly balanced mathematical equation with emphasis on 'Equate'; in the end of The Matrix: Revolutions, the architect was shown as having been pleased with the prospect of the manufactured 'choice' he was able to contribute to the equation. It made sense to him to get to choose Peace if the humans chose 'rebellion' while having control over the 'rebellion' in tandem with not having Smith crashing Machine City servers.

Neo actually flies at the end of the very last scene, up and away from the Analyst's apartment, if you see they both fly independently of each other, well, combined I guess. But without touching, and then, a second or so afterwards. Neo just took longer to remember, as I see it anyhow. Who are these 'suits' the analyst mentioned, though? Yet more secretive unknown powers behind what we think is the final obstacle for the [not really] one[s]. I wonder if the oracle, architect, trainman, merovingian, or any other program in the previous films, ever in some way, referred to them also - as a way of understanding how m4 fits into the previous films. good video One thing doesnt make sense to me still though, if Sati tells Neo and Trinity that the Analyst purged whom he saw to be useless programs [Sati's parents], why would the Analyst himself seem to have less power over the fate of humans, machines, and programs [if he was able to do this to Satis parents, and probably others], when confronted by Neo and Trinity at the end of the film, than the elusively termed 'suits' he describes ? I guess the fact he ended up getting kicked around by Trinity in that scene shows he is somewhat of a servant to them. I wish we got to see them in m4 though.

It is crazy how accurate this video is. And what is funny is the cries about Trinity being the new ONE, does not actually take away from Neo. He was still tapping into the powers of the One, doing things that no other normal human, or machine world freed human could do. But he was doing so from instinct, and a severe lack of training. Where as in the Original Trilogy, you were seeing Neo at peek performance. If they were to ever make another film, I think you would see Both Neo and Trinity at a much higher power level, and the stakes would have to be so much higher, because even though the Architect was an important figure in the machine world, he was still a middle man in comparison to over all structure of the Machines. Resurrections proved this with Harris taking over as the new Architect. Frankly, I think if the Matrix was allowed to carry on, you would even see a point in time where Neo, Trinity, and Smith would all be working together. Not as friends, but as necessary parts of a whole.

Neo being rusty makes perfect sense seeing how he was dead and remade and kept in a pod for 60 years I used to have very good reflexes and can catch things without looking at them and once I got sick and a stroke my reflexes weren't as crisp so I had to retrain myself

Trinity is the first main character we see in the franchise.. also it’s implied that the Oracle actually discovered the power of emotion because she used love to break the cycle.. and literally it was her kiss that brought neo back to life and he brought her back to life.. I always thought they had a deeper connection.. also they modified trinity and neo .. neo still has powers just not the ones we expected.. I think the goal of the movie was to subvert expectations and drive the point there was always a love story that took second place to the action..

If one (pun intended) digs through the internet enough it's possible to find fan takes where it was theorized that Neo and Trinity shared the anomaly code, going back 10 or even 20 years. This isn't something Lana Wachowski made up to have a female protagonist, it's a well explored point and only people not paying attention or taking all of the matrix at face value could think otherwise. As said in the video I went into the theater expecting and hoping for it, and so did the friend who came with me who's also an hardcore matrix fan

As for humans being turned into batteries, I am pretty sure that you have also mentioned it, but the original script was having The Matrix use the human minds as computer CPUs to run The Matrix, I think the original script idea makes more sense, because it is possible that the human mind is the greatest computer ever invented and maybe the machines could not even invent computers to match its potential. Warner Brothers however thought that the concept of the human minds being used as CPUs rather than the humans as batteries would have been too confusing for the general audience to understand (which I disagree with, but how the machines are using the humans is not really that important, only that they are being used as slaves with parasitical machines feeding off of them in some way).

Yes. No. There is no "One". They were both prepared by The Oracle to potentially become the Integral Anomaly. The Oracle also told them both that they were not The One. Trinity chose Neo to play the role of The One in the original trilogy, though they both have the full potential. In Resurrections, it is revealed that they are both, together, something else, something new, something neither The Architect nor The Analyst ever predicted (although The Oracle may have).

Sure, but I think Resurrection’s scope could have been larger, it feels most of the movie is around a city block with the coffee shop in the middle of it all. There’s a lack of epic feeling and not mentioning the special fx extravaganza that fans expect to see. Matrix Resurrections was a perfect example of having everything that you need in place. Having a beautiful concept. Having a perfect idea. But doing it too late and a but too different. If they would have done that movie 10 years ago with a slitely tweaked story board, it would have been much better. I for one always did deep dives into the matrix, so I was okay with the concepts and changes. I was okay with the updates and the "one" abilities being tied to the anomalies, not the person. For me, it was the timing, and the forcefulness of concepts without better explanation.

Loved matrix 4 and love the series second only to OG Star wars for me in the genre. So interesting and always more to learn and themes to pick up on. I'm sad the 4th flopped but happy we at least got one more adventure in the universe. Plus it was nice to see Trinity and Neo back and the main focus as opposed to a lot of sequels where the main characters are pushed out. Plus the new characters largely looked up to and admired them which is also unusual and deserves credit when again they are normally mistreated, disrespected or neglected. The final few shots on the rooftops were great. My only issues were I think a couple of the ship crew should have died in the third act to add to the stakes, a bit more action and I missed Hugo and Laurence but the new actors did a good job and doesn't seem so bad on repeat viewings. And I thought I was gonna dislike Bugs but actually really warmed to her and how she helped Neo escape like he had helped her do. Overall 9 out of 10. Interesting though I don't think I would have liked this one so much at the age I was when original trilogy came out as I can feel the toll of modern life through Neo in the first act after all these years of work. Hehe
