I have found lately that some sugar is creeping back into my diet, so I’m glad you had this podcast on and I listen to it. I’ll get better control of that again. I’m almost 80 years old and been listening to your podcast for about three years now and it’s made a huge difference in my life and my lifestyle. Thank you.

Something I have found from my personal experience, is that the side effects from consumption of processed sugar lasts more than 24 hours. I rarely eat sugery foods, so recently when I indulged in an ice cream cone (out on a hot, summer day last week), not only did I notice trouble sleeping the following 2 nights, but I also experienced cravings for more sugar! It took between 2 and 3 days for my body to get regulated again. Just not worth it. I think the "half life" of sugar should be studied.

Thanks Rupy, amen to all of this. I have successfully changed my lifestyle over the last 10 years and seen some huge health benefits. However, I’ve gone off the wagon in the last year following shoulder surgery and an international move. I’ve been eating and craving the foods I don’t normally eat and it’s been a good learning curve to see the reverse happening - weight gain, gut issues. I need to get back into my desired lifestyle but finding it difficult, especially when with family (who don’t get it!)

What few people realize though is highly processed grains are quite literally the same as sugar once they hit the gut. So a couple of slides of white (or even whole meal) bread become ‘sugar’ in a few short minutes and so avoiding ‘added sugar’ only helps if you avoid most baked goods etc!

Thanks Doctor this has been hugely helpful, if a little frightening! Lots for me to work on ,as I try to further improve my diet

The obvious cause of a lot of problems sleeping after high sugar consumption would be the caffeine in the sugary drink. I don’t drink my sugar or any sugar substitutes. I don’t drink fruit juice. Just because something is natural does not mean that it is not full of glucose or fructose.

Weston Price should be required reading and with photos. It is criminal wheat we are doing to our children with their diet.

My friend, are you sure if someone can't sleep, must be too much sugar?!?!?!

Where did Rupy say bad sleep MUST be too much sugar? Answer = he didn’t. But there is correlation as it being one of several factors to consider.
