You get 120 extra ponies and a brand new design for a few grand extra. The AWD, 2 door, 550 hp, I6 Charger is expected to start in the mid-$40K range. The current RWD, two door, 370hp, V8 RT Challenger, starts in the mid-$40k range. You get 180 extra ponies and AWD, but you lose two cylinders. RacerX, Actually, the arguments you make only encourage me to want to go and get the EV Daytona, but for other considerations that you may not have thought about: 1) The Hurricane 6 cyl twin turbo motor will indeed produce a lot more power, but one has to remember that in an ICE engine only about 1/3 of the energy originally stored in the fuel is available to overcome internal drivetrain friction and propel the car. Half of the remaining 2/3 available energy gets blown out the tailpipe as heat, the other 1/3 is transferred to the surrounding atmosphere via the radiator and other driveline cooling systems. So in order to produce your 1000 hp to the wheels, 1000 will go out the tailpipe as heat and the other 1000 will have to get transferred to the radiator. Normally this is no big deal, but remember that the displacement of these engines are getting lower and lower, which means the TEMPERATURES of some of these key engine/drivetrain components are going to get a LOT hotter than their earlier generations' counterparts. Have you noticed lately that there are a lot more PLASTIC components in the engine bay nowadays? Some of those are on key components, say like a plastic fitting on the thermostat housing that's sitting right above the exhaust manifold? After a lot of thermal cycles (run engine to normal operating temp, shut down, let sit overnight, repeat) all those plastic bits start to fatigue. Some break, and a few key ones can shut the engine down if, say, all the coolant blows out of the engine when you're driving through the desert (Oh, gosh, that NEVER happened to me :rolleyes:) So from a long term reliability viewpoint, the Hurricane engine has a built-in strike against it vs. the EV motor as the operational temperatures of the EV drivtrain won't get as hot as the ICE. 2) From a total system complexity point of view, there are LOT more moving parts in the ICE engine and transmission. Yeah, the engineers have had 140 years of experience making the things reliable, but the trouble is, the more parts there are that make the systems more complex (e.g., compare the 1969 3 speed automatic transmission vs. a modern 10 speed automatic transmission) , the more the probability is that something can fail. And when they do fail, they cost a lot more to fix. If Dodge has an electric motor like the Tesla's that needs no transmission (full torque available all the way to 13,000 rpm) the transmission disappears and (in theory, at least) this makes the drivetrain way more reliable. 3) Yup, batteries can die on the EV. But so can the engine on the Hurricane or the transmission. With all of the now heat-soaked and thermal-cycled plastic bits on the Hurricane after, say, 10 years of service, and if the engine has to get replaced, a lot of those plastic bits are going to break when they have to get removed if the engine has to be replaced or worked on. The engine and transmission are a bear to get out of the car and back in, so labor cost to replace them is significant because it can take a lot of time. If Dodge PLANS on battery replacement on the EV Daytona, this can be done in a few hours by dropping a few panels and swapping the battery out without messing with the other parts of the drivetrain. Remember, a lot of people change cars because they're afraid the engine or transmission will fail and cost a lot to repair. With the EV there's no fuel system, no exhaust system, no emissions system, no separate alternator system, no engine oil that has to get changed every 5,000 miles, no transmission fluid that has to get changed every 60,000 miles, the cooling system doesn't have to extract as much heat as the ICE, so there are things going in the EV's favor. 4) One of the drawbacks of the EV's weight that you don't mention is that because they weigh more, they will chew through tires faster than their lighter brethren. But one advantage of the higher weight is that if the battery pack is placed at the floor of the vehicle, the lower center of gravity will enhance stability and handling. 5) the major drawback of the Daytona EV is that Dodge hasn't made one that's been proven to be reliable yet, so I'm not so sure I want to the beta tester for the thing. But given enough time, the EV concept will prove itself. Frankly, I remember when the 1969 Challenger R/T was new, and it was my favorite muscle car after my all-time favorite of the 1965 Buick Riviera. The trouble is that the '69 Challengers were bought up and destroyed in the "Dukes of Hazard" TV show, so finding a used on in decent shape is pretty much an impossibility nowadays. So, yeah, with all of you guys wanting the Hurricane versions, save one of the EV's for me and hopefully the price will come down for the car I'd prefer to get, namely the EV (when all the bugs are worked out) Besides, remember you actually WANT those of us who prefer the EV's to buy them in order to allow Dodge to make the Hellcat versions for those of you who prefer the ICE. That way Dodge doesn't have to waste millions on credits to Tesla if Dodge can make their own EV. In my mind I'd think that because a lot of buyers prefer the ICE, Dodge should discount the EV to enable more sales of the EV, but this, in turn, will allow more sales of the Hurricane without penalty fines from the EPA, Just a thought. My 2 cents, mind you. YMMV.

I understand people hating they don't have the hemi I love it too. But straight 6s can be made to run an if you put split headers on them they sound as good or better then a v8.have seen an heard a straight 6 done this way an thought it was a v8 till the hood was upon it had a straight 6

If they offer Carbon body parts for it that Six Pack could be made lighter and even more potent, I hope that motor truly stays solid for the new HP race that will come from the modders.

I think the TT Inline 6 version is over 4 inches wider and 8 inches longer than the current gen. Plus it has awd which doesn’t help with weight either. It’s got a lot more technology features and bigger wheels/tires as well. It’s hard to believe it will be lighter, but hopefully RacerX is correct in the 4k lbs range.

Yeah, I don't understand why all newer vehicles are so heavy. My 2005 Daytona edition RAM 1500 regular cab truck only weighs 4300lbs curb weight. The newer trucks are close to 5800lbs. Same for the cars. Most are 1000lbs or more heavier than they were just 15 to 20 years ago. There are too many extra electronics, I guess.

The demon 170 with the blower removed and turbo charged made 300 hp more at I believe 0psi, just removing vacuum. It may have made a couple psi, but very low if any. The parasitic drag of spinning the blower was about 300hp worth if I recall correctly.
@LeadStarDude8 ай бұрын
30 horsepower drag difference, not 300. Also, twin turbo is a nightmare in comparison when considering all the things that could possibly go wrong. 0% chance of a supercharger having a runaway like a turbo can when it fails.

I love the new 2025 dodge charger HO looks awesome but I have two big concerns 1. I hope they put a better security system so the six pack doesn’t get Rob and number 2. I hope the engine last longer without any problems

I don’t think any of your viewers give a single solitary F about any of the electric offerings. The Hurricane powered cars are gonna sell like crazy and the EVs are going to languish on dealer lots. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Banshee gets cancelled because of abysmal EV sales.

I’m old school and have owned MANY V-8s; including 4 Challengers and 1 Barracuda. But a V-6 is not un-American! Europeans used straight or flat 6s and we cornered the market on V-6s. And, as we’ve learned from Porsche, a lighter weight 6 cylinder can often beat an 8 cylinder. This is progress boys. Give it a chance - Dodge is trying to please everyone but they can’t make everyone happy.

Good to see the Charger get some love, most are critical of it. Lucky they’re doing this dual-platform with EV. That said, as good as an I6 is and although some makes have made a performance name with them (BMW, not the Nissan you showed) … I suspect Dodge buyers are V8 buyers. Time will tell.

While I’d only put my money into a 6.1, 6.2 or 6.4 Challenger or Magnum, I am still excited to see the 6 pack. While I wish they’d have used the stealth name instead of giving it a muscle car aesthetic it’s going to be a sweet ride. Even though I’d take my 10 speed 5.0 over it, it’s gonna be smoking me in Mexico that’s for sure!
