This is originally from the broadway musical Hair, it was also filmed as a movie. There were several hit songs from this show including this one. At the time it was a groundbreaking production.

From the first hippie musical Hair, this song became an anthem of the times. 5th Dimension were very popular back then, many great songs.

It was also played Once in place of the US Anthem ...when they recovered the Apollo 13 capsule... after the mission had to be abandoned due to the explosion. Aquarius was of course the code name for the LEM module that acted as their lifeboat and brought them back to Earth. 🌌🧙🏻‍♂️

The Age of Aquarius is supposed to be a time of peace and positive change, it will last for 2,000 years, now is the time but I think we have to get through some very dark times first.❤😂 The message of this song gives us hope for better times.

Songs from the 60s musical Hair gave us Hope. PS: Aquarius was the opening song and Let the Sunshine In was the final song of the musical and the 5th D just combined them into a great song.

there was a time in the late 60s when this was the anthem for the "hippie generation". everything seemed possible if people just loved each other and treated each other with respect. the "flower children" had a dream of a better world without war,hunger and pain. sadly the 70s came in with the viet nam war still raging,killing and maiming hundreds of young people,watergate showed the corruption of government,and the as john lennon sang "the dream is over". the message of this song still rings true...if only people would listen and understand.

This song was from the musical "Hair." i was an extra for one scene in the movie version. I was at work on Wall St at the time, and saw they were shooting a scene so I snuck on to the set near Milos Forman, the director. I participated in the scene for the song "Where Do I Go." A great experience. Love the reaction.

At the end of this musical, they invited audience members up on stage to dance with cast. It was a real thrill to a 16 year old high school student in NYC on a school trip.

5th DIMENSION Did so much to attack Prejudice in the 1960's and the did it through their Musical Harmonies, they were bringing in the Age of Aquarius they sing about.

This positive feeling was very present in a lot of music from the 60s despite the Vietnam War and the other social problems. Their was a positive outlook of change for the good among people that many believed. I loved your reaction to this classic song from a time gone by.

- Dominika - Maybe you heard "Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In" in the final scene of the movie, "The 40-Year-Old Virgin" (2005). - Also, the two songs are originally from the play, "Hair" (Off-Broadway in 1967, and later moved to Broadway in 1968). "Hair" was also made into a movie (1979). - 'The 5th Dimension' were magical :)

In high school, When my United Nations Club went to New York City, 2 blocks from our hotel the play "HAIR" was playing, It had the songs "Aquarius" and "Let the Sun Shine In". I had seen the 5th Dimension on Ed Sullivan Show I liked the songs and wanted to see the play. No luck I was only 16 and you had to be 18 or accompanied by an adult, In the play at one point the cast was totally nude and alot of the language was adult . Darn I really wanted to be a Hippie too young for this play and woodstock! 😢 The hippie in me came out in the early 70's while in college. At least I could enjoy the music these 2 songs being some of my favorites. Peace ✌️ ☮️ and ❤Gary

"Aquarius" and "Let the Sunshine" In are two songs from the musical Hair, which started as an off-Broadway production in 1967. It moved to Broadway in 1968, and there was a movie made from it in 1979. The musical is about a group of hippies in New York City, and covers a lot of hot issues of the day, including the Vietnam War and the draft, race relations, sex, and drugs. The song "Aquarius" is the first one in the musical, and "Let the Sunshine in" comes last. The Fifth Dimension put them together into a single performance. Also, "Let the Sunshine in" is not as happy and upbeat in the musical as it is here. The original title is "The Flesh Failures (Let the Sun Shine In)," and the full lyrics are pessimistic. The Fifth Dimension used only the end of the song, which sounds upbeat and happy in isolation. The cast recordings from the Broadway play and the movie are available on KZbin. Hi, 74 years old hippie from the Netherlands =Floor, Irene, Simone, Anneke, Dianne & Arjen(Ayreon) Country= reporting in: I was at a Hair performance in West-Hollywood - (L.A.) in 1969 ... Hair and Vietnam ("Nam") were a big deal then ... They re-baptised The Earl Gardner Theater into The Aquarius Theater (Including painting the front wall in psychedelic colors). Let the Sunshine in was the moment when the audience could get on the stage ... Lots of us were naked by then ... I think Diane Keaton was among the cast ...!!! Shine on all you good people ...!!!✌peace ...

The musical HAIR-which I believe was made to a movie this century. I wore that album out in the 70’s. All the songs on Hair are great, highly recommend. The live musical-1971-72?-caused a scandal for nudity…. I enjoy your reaccións very much, thank you.

The first time I saw naked people was the center picture of the program for Hair! It was so revolutionary at the time. So enthralled was I, that my friends and I created a dance routine to this song for the school talent show 😂

I'm not sure what TV show this was on, but there were many great shows. This was the only way to see groups and musicians on video. Otherwise, it was all radio and albums.
