Edit: BTW, for my money, "Blackstock and Weber" make the best chunky loafers. They come in both rubber or leather soles, and they have great leathers and construction. I own the leather-soled horsebits in brown, and I find it casual enough to work with jeans and a white t shirt, and dressy enough to wear it with khakis and a harris tweed blazer.

The Oak Street's I'm a whole size down from Brannock, most of the others I'm down half a size. I think Allen Edmonds is true to size, I put notes onscreen for each with regard to sizing but it's also in the article stridewise.com/best-loafers-for-men/

Nice rundown, but I had a couple questions: 1) Is the Oak Street made by Rancourt? And would you consider rancourts to be roughly the same quality? 2) Lined versus unlined. I have a pair of Thursdays sneakers, which are lined with leather. If I wear them without socks, I get blisters on my heel. Do unlined loafers help to prevent blisters?

1) Yes and yes! 2) Every loafer wearing dude I know goes sockless without complaint. Possibility it's a little hard for the first couple weeks but generally I think that's more to do with the famously stiff Thursday sneaker heel than with lined/unlined

As mentioned previously, the Oak Street is made in Maine by Rancourt. Given that, I'd recommend purchasing straight from Rancourt. Their weltline penny loafer is, to my eye, more elegant than the beefroll option, and it comes in three different colors. They also offer a horsebit loafer that is a little more akin to the classic Gucci loafer.

I have a different pair of Beckett Simonon loafers, their Beaumont horsebit in a brown suede. Big fan of those. They're fairly slim which I like in a loafer, and they dress up a pair of shorts, jeans, or slacks nicely. Wouldn't wear with a suit though. Good summer shoe.

Oak Street Bootmakers...don't really get enough love from the shoe/boot world. They are actually, very good value for money paid. Very well made, high quality materials used. Much like Grant Stone quality, better than Allen Edmonds. I would even suspect they are better made than most Alden. Oak Street Bootmakers...deserves a round of applause for their quality to price point. Fortunately for many of us...because the brand is not well known...they can be found for good prices when thrifting. Much like Rancourt. You cannot go wrong with an Oak Street Bootmakers, made product. They will last forever...

I prefer 8" boots kn the winter, so for summer if I'm not just wearing my Woobies mod 1 low top sneakers I just wear 6" moc toes. That being said I am kind of thinking of getting a pair of Chukkas, but I need to find the right option that's utilitarian and not dressy. As a blue collar guy, I just can't do loafers. I'm not normally a fan of loafers, but I like the Astorflex and can see me wearing them in summer. As you probably know, loafers aren't big in Australia where thongs (flip flops to non-Aussies) reign in the warm weather, so I've been wearing canvas boat shoes for the last few years, but these are in with a chance to replace them when they die, so thanks!
