Personally i think that retractable dog leashes great for small dogs . But there are some really cheap ones out there that do the things he mentions in the video but the one I use for my yorkie is the “Wigzi Retractable Gel leash” it has a gel like handle that forms to the shape of your grip that is very comfortable and I would really recommend it

As with a lot of these videos I'd have to say more context is needed due to the personalities of different dogs. And I understand that he needs to make a concise video so he can't go into all of the details for everything, but it still needs to be mentioned. I have always had an issue with someone saying not to use a certain item simply because they do not care to explain the proper way it should be used. My dog is extremely high energy with an overwhelming prey drive. If he sees something move he will take off after it (he's a terrier type dog so he's not going to pull you off your feet). We tried using the stop and start training method for months. Short walks could take upwards of an hour because as soon as we would start to walk again he would take off and we would have to stop again. It was a nightmare to go through, and in the end he never learned to walk by our side. Keep in mind he is a very smart dog. New tricks are easily picked up with less than an hour of training. We tried all types of leashes and in the end found that a retractable leash with a harness worked the best. That being said, we trained him to sit on command and wait so we could shorten up the leash when needed. The retractable leash lets him run around and get his energy out while still allowing us to shorten it if necessary. I would say rather than telling people not to use a retractable leash, you should be teaching people how to use the retractable leash as a training tool.

TheCommonS3Nse retractable leashes are extremely dangerous, they teach the dog to pull especially with a harness, they're very dangerous as it can get wrapped around another dog or a persons leg and literally saw it off! I know this because we had a training lead for my dog when he was a younger puppy which is 10m long, it's a wide lead aswell, he ran around my mum's leg and she's got scars from where it went in so deep, the tiny cord of a retractable leash or even the tape ones will saw off someone's leg and should be made illegal! The law here is that your dog must be on a 4ft leash not longer, so why should we be allowed retractable ones? You have no control of the dog takes off and especially by a road, the dog can just run, you can put teach them not to pull as you can't hold it properly! Just a disaster! There's no correct way to use these, they shouldn't be used at all! Also, there are so many people who walk through woods and the dog is so far ahead, there could be an aggressive or unstable dog for whatever reason who is on lead being controlled by the owner, if your dog runs up to them there could be a fight and the cord will make it worse, you can't prevent the dog fighting because if you try to part them the cord gets in the way and it could chop off your arm! It's incredibly irresponsible they should be made illegal!

Slip leash is perfect for training a puppy. We used that foe my rescued puppy because we've tried everything else and spend too much on leashes. I bought a slip leash for a 100 PhP only and used it for two months. My dog doesn't need a leash anymore because she's well behaved in public. But we often have to bring her slip leash with us in case a restaurant or mall requires a leash for a dog.

My dog is 1 year old and still bites on the leash when excited/frustrated even after playing outside for nearly 2 hours. I use a rope leash. Do you think that I should get a chain leash? Please help. It gets annoying walking my dog at times and as days passes, I get less motivated to walk her.

About 45 minutes ago my dog's chain broke and my mom went out to fix it, It's a stake in the ground, So right now she's going out to get a other one, So I'm afraid that the chain might cost alot of money and I was trying to convince her to keep the dog in a area of the house with puppy pads, What do I do?

@imme3958
@imme3958 Жыл бұрын
@@gordonbushby1753 Idk if you still have this problem you can also use a gentle leader (like a horse halter) in combination with the harness you already use (use the ring on front of the dog instead of the one on the back of your aren’t) i also recommend to just train your dog not to pull. Teach him to heel. Just search for videos on KZbin if you don’t know how to train them to stop pulling.

Because of where I live and where I go with my dogs I have 2 types of leash for each dog. When I was home I need less control of my dogs so I used a extendable leash. When I was going to the dog or any where else I used a 6 ft. nylon leashes that were appropriate for their size. My husband thought I was nuts till he tried to walking my 72 pound boxer hound mix on an extendable leash up to the dog park lol.

I disagree that chain leashes are the most durable. My dog snapped such a leash twice while trying to go after cats, and she's not even very big (20kg). She has never managed to snap a regular nylon leash, or even a retractable leash.

you forgot the one (i don't know whats it called in englisch in german it's: Schleppleine) the one that's very long and you just have it on the dog with a harness when you're out in a field or wood and the dog can't walk off leash (or is in the learning process) so in an emergency you can still have an end in your hand or step on it so the dog doesn't run away!

chloeny319 Talking about a type of really long lead, that you can wind around like a rope, that gives you ample leeway to let your dog roam while still leashed and stop him from going further if you need to. Really long. Google schleppleine.

Retractable? Hate them! This is a training tool for recall.....that's all! Over here in the UK, EVERYONE uses them, and they're so dangerous! They could wrap themselves around you, run into the road or get into a fight with another dog. Bad idea for walking ☺ 🐶

He was highlighting the pros and cons of each type of leash. I have a chain leash and a nylon for my Siberian Husky. I'm glad he didn't only say what's good about the leash and ignore the bad. I have use for both leashes, my husky likes to bite on the leash therefore I can use the chain leash, but he also pulls so I can also use the nylon leash at times for more control. If he would've made it seem like they all only have pros and no cons then it would've been misinforming everyone about the qualities of the leash.

Lmao leather than does not get "brittle" once when/dries. Sounds like you are using fake leathers made from leather scraps glued together. High quality leather is made for the environment (think leather biker jackets)... also important to be oiling the leather too. Leather is litteraly skin. Needs to be moisturized just like ours.
