@privatename2426 Жыл бұрын
@Me Me also to add usually the diets that result in extreme water weight loss are the diets that highly restrict carbohydrates every day. Fasting does not do this it's just restricting eating window. The diets that cause you to loose a lot of water weight (like only drinking shakes and smoothies every day and having practically no carbs just protein) work because your body is using up its glycogen stores which per every gram of glycogen is 3 grams of water. So when you starve your body of carbs all day multiple days in a row yes you loose tons of water weight. IF will definitely not cause this.

I got on Sal a bit on some of his points about a vegan diet on his podcast, particularly the myth that a vegan in America would fail to get all the amino acids they needed to build muscle and how little thought it actually takes these days; but his summary on this podcast was dead on. Very fair, it’s all stuff vegans should know about. I’d add B-12 is a must on a vegan diet. Most real meats are fortified with B-12. Funny enough, a lot of plant based meats are also fortified with B-12 so even a very unhealthy processed food addicted vegans wouldn’t have an issue with B-12 these days. Whole food vegans have to supplement. I’ve been taking creatine whether I’m focused on exercising or not because I do find that it helps with my energy and brain function. I took creatine when I ate meat in my 20s, but now that I’m pushing 40 I find myself using creatine for the sake of functioning.

What if you eat a 100 percent meat diet? I'm 190 lbs and eat 200-300 grams of protein per day. I'm still losing weight, am never hungry and feel great! BTW any diet where you have to add unnatural supplements is not smart or evolutionary. I like the points on fasting, or what I would call not eating when your are hungry. The carnivore community, which I am a part of talks about this all of the time. The beauty of low carb meat based diets is that your hunger naturally diminishes so you don't need to fast. And don't get me started on the stupidity of long term fasting over two days... I figured out something Sal does not understand, and that is the difference between carbohydrates. Starches are made of glucose, and glucose has not been shown by itself to cause metabolic disease. Fructose, the sweet sugar HAS been shown to cause metabolic dysfunction, and the part most people don't understand is that it is a survival mechanism. We find that once societies eat fructose is when they get metabolically sick. Either carb on low carb diets don't cause disease for the most part until you add processed sugars and fructose, then they cause metabolic syndrome, weight gain and diabetes. Low carb diets are a little better for most people just like Sal said, but people can be healthy on both. I also believe different cultures have evolved to do better on meats, and others on some carbs, but we all can eat meat. Europeans and African tend to have more meat heavy diets, and Asians and Central and South Americans seem to tolerate carbs better. Ok for my final point. The actual key to losing body fat is to stop your hunger. The main reason people eat too much, besides psychological reasons is hunger. This is why meat based diets work so well like the carnivore diet because it severely restricts your hunger. I have been doing this diet for 3 years pretty seriously, and I have lost 42 pounds, and I'm not even a fat guy. All my metabolic parameters have improved, and the weight has not came back. It never will, unless I do something stupid like go back to eating a standard American diet again. For what I seen, the success rate for carnivore is well over 75-80 percent for people who stick to the diet. And don't give me that unsustainable argument. If people can't sustain it, it is not the fault of the diet. The difference between sustaining a sugar based diet and a low carb diet is that the carb based diet is hard to maintain because people are just too hungry all of the time. The same is not true for carnivore. People who quit carnivore do so because they get re-addicted to sugar, bread, starches, treats and beer. It's much easier to sustain meat based diets than carb and sugar based diets...I really like Sal. He's super smart.

I think this guy is completely wrong when it comes to his ideas about fasting. you can't get autophagy by just cutting calories. fasting gives you control over food. yes people can binge but that's commonly associated with ignorance about fasting

you get autophagy by cutting calories as well. and you create the most autophagy from working out. unless you are doing crazy long fast on the regular, working out is the best way to get it.

Since IF has become popular, A LOT of people are ignorant about how to properly fast to promote fat burning. I have many older relatives who have gotten tired of cooking early in the morning and have decided that one meal a day is easier. They still don't consider macros, load up all the calories they need to meet goals, or consider when thier eating window actually is. And they still eat snacks and sweet treats because "they aren't meals" 🙄🤯. They trick themselves into believing they're doing a healthy diet and claim they're also doing "intermittent fasting" because they're only cooking one meal a day. It's not honest, but it makes them feel good.

Fasting is nothing more than a tool. Can be helpful, but not good in every situation. Also, most (yes, ofcourse not all...) people that use fasting as a strategy for weightloss, end up putting it back on. Manipulating musclemass and thereby increasing the metabolism and eating whole foods, however, is a strategy that works way better over time. Not even mentioning the relationship with food that is better for someone who just instinctively eats whole foods compared to the one restricting him or herself in any way.

Protein requirements for a sendentary person are 0.8 g per kg. For older people 1-1.2 g per kg and for people who exercise a lot 1.5 g per kg. A lot of people by far exceed these requirements leading to illnesses (e.g. kidney problems). On the other hand, only a very small percentage of us hit the daily recommended fiber intake (around 30 g) - this should be of much more concern for everybody.

Both can be true. Fiber lowers the net carbs you are consuming gram for gram, so consuming it along with carbs is beneficial for keeping blood sugar in control. Consuming protein before other macros keeps levels more stable helping avoid the cravings, energy issues, etc. you could experience with very big changes in blood sugar and insulin levels.

The quality of the food (think grass fed beef or wild caught Salmon) matters alot too, much more than just simple calories in and out. People can eat less calories but still be eating less than optimal foods and missing the correct ratio of macros and the benefits of real whole food, the healthy fats from the Salmon or the amino acids from the beef, and most diets fail to prioritize food quality because everyone is incorrectly focusing on cutting calories and eating low fat.
