Matt Drives the 850 Horsepower E63 on an empty toll road. Can he keep some tire on the car or will this be another episode of rolling burnouts?

The E63 doesn't have a torque converter. the speedshift 7-speed transmission in the AMG mercs uses a wet clutch pack system.

The E63 have a torque converter AND a wet clutch system. The MCT Speedshift gearbox have both
@Andy_T793 жыл бұрын
@@mosli770 as a E63 owner i can 💯 confirm it does NOT have a torque converter! And if you dont believe me then here's what Mercedes themselves have to say on the matter on their site: "Mercedes-AMG ’s seven or nine-speed gearbox is an automatic unit, but not one with a torque converter, the speedshift MCT transmission from AMG is not a dual-clutch unit either, the Speedshift MCT unit is a multi-clutch automatic gearbox. Instead of a torque converter, like conventional automatics, it possesses a “clutch pack,” which includes multiple clutches placed together and controlled separately. It is easily differentiated from dual-clutch automatics because it has a single input shaft. It is currently available in seven-speed and nine-speed versions, these multi-clutch transmissions are usually operated in heavy-duty applications, where an optimal response is required, along with the need to handle a bundle of torque. It is important not to confuse multi-clutch gearboxes with multi-plate clutches. The latter term refers to the clutch itself, which can be engaged in a manual gearbox. Multi-clutch transmission are used by various racing cars, but also in heavy machinery. The advantage of this technical solution is using less space for something that can handle more torque and power, all with minimum slip. Reaction time is also an important characteristic, which is significantly improved when compared to a torque converter. Motorcycles are known for their use of multi-plate clutches for this particular reason. The torque and power requirements cannot be met with a conventional clutch, because it would take up too much space, when several plates that are smaller form an efficient package. The idea was to provide the fastest response time possible with the largest torque capability. A regular twin-clutch unit could not handle the level of torque developed by Mercedes-AMG’s V8 units, so this solution had to be designed to obtain maximum performance. The innovative component introduced by Mercedes-AMG’s Speedshift MCT-7 unit was a “wet start-off clutch,” which operated in a sump to aid cooling and longevity. The component has a low rotational inertia that allows quick response times, which cannot be matched by liquid-filled torque converters. MCT stands for Multi-Clutch Technology, and those clutches are the sole executors of gear changes. In the Manual mode, the gearbox managed to shift gears in just 100 milliseconds. That is incredibly fast, but the unit also had a comfort mode for day-to-day driving, as well as two sport modes. The AMG Speedshift MCT 7 unit is even lighter than the AMG Speedshift 7G-Tronic unit, which is employed in other products of this division. The MCT unit weighs 80 kilograms, and it can operate at engine speeds of up to 7,200 rpm. Only the high-performance vehicles from the AMG line have been fitted with this type of transmission."

@@Andy_T79 anyways, i OWN 2 E63 AMG both W212 modell, both with the M157 both Prefacelift and both with the 7G MCT Speedshift. My friend upgraded the clutch of his prefacelift E63 AMG with the M157. The gearbox have a wet clutch system und behind this also a converter.

🤦♂️ as an engineer of 25yrs i do all the maintenance on my E63 and S55 and I can assure you there is no torque converter under the MCT E63... unless it's invisible when i installed my long tube headers.. Go and call mercedes and try ordering the part and see what happens... they'll laugh down the phone as it simply doesn't exist! Also the whole point of a MCT unit is that it doesn't need a torque converter!

as I said in the video, the problems with the car had nothing to do with any of the work Weistec did. Buying their tuning package does not mean you lose air con and paddles; a blown module that was untouched since it left for the factory failed, and took all those systems with it. It was replaced under warranty the next day and the car is working fine now.

The very few good driving roads in Orange county are always clogged with traffic because they actually go places, unlike Malibu or the Angeles Forest. Secondly, just because a county is rich doesn't mean it's cool, fun, or somewhere I want to be. Orange County sucks my ass.

I don't know where you live, but I'm guessing it's not America. You have to give Americans leeway here, as the bare minimum here is 2,500 lbs, and "average" is generally over 3,000, closer to 3,500. We don't have (or need) tiny hatchbacks like they have elsewhere, and if a company is used to working on brand new Mercedes, in the US, just like everywhere else in the world, they are heavy cars. SLS is light compared to E-class.

Can someone explain what he means by 715 horsepower "at the wheel?"
@myusernames196710 жыл бұрын
This is a true measurement of power,its the amount of power that reaches the rear wheels after drivetrain losses. A 505hp Z06 is 505 engine hp,at the wheels it may be only a bit over 400 rwhp (rear wheel horse power) A dyno is used to measure rwhp or awhp (all wheel horse power) in an all wheel drive car.
@LongrunQBJK10 жыл бұрын
myusernames1967 thanks
@AB-80X10 жыл бұрын
myusernames1967 It has nothing to do with truth. It's just a method of measuring power. And since they don't tell us what correction standard they use, we know exactly nothing about how it compares to stock. If you want a good comparison, use the SAE J1349 standard. Then you know what the engine puts out, compared to just about any car out there, except for Volvo, as they use another standard. If you make 850hp by the J507 standard compared to SAE J1349, you're only making 807.5ish hp SAE J1349. Unfortunately, a lot of tuners use the J507 correction standard, and I don't believe anyone who can't produce a J1349 document. The only two Merc tuners I know of who do, is Brabus adn Kleemann.
@LongrunQBJK10 жыл бұрын
ABOlsen69666 dude ik u sound all smart and everything.. but english please cus most people don't know what a "J1349 document" is
@AB-80X10 жыл бұрын
LongrunQBJK The SAE J1349 Certified Power is not a document. the SAE J1349 Certified Power is a standerd specifying how a manufacture should test the power and torque of an engine. Dyno rooms are different, so to make sure that things are equal, SAE International has developed a standard for what the air density (Elevation), barometric pressure, temp and other variables must be, and corrected for if not so. If for example, the temperature of a dyno room and the altitude is different than what is specified in the J1349 standard, the "raw" number of the dyno pull must then be corrected accordingly. The document I'm talking about, is simply a dynosheet verifying that the test was done in accordance with SAE J1349 Certified Power guidelines. Why I'm bringing this up, is because if what is known as the J507 Land And Sea correction standard is used, the hp number the engine puts out, will be about 5-6% higher than if corrected by the J1349 standard. I can't remember the correction factors off the top of my head, but I remember that the temperature for a J1349 test should be corrected for 70 degrees F and the J507 only for 60 degrees F. In other words, the J1349 is more conservative than the J507. Some dyno shops even just use random correction factors, which basically makes the measured power number completely useless. If you want to know more about the J1349 Certified Power and other similar standards, read this. www.sae.org/certifiedpower/details.htm

Wheel stands and Burning rubber is for chumps = all you do is lower your ET when you wheel stand or burn rubber. My CL knocks the snot out of every Mustang in the area same for anything chevy has.

Correction, you made it to 15.8 mph lol

I thought Mercedes had sorted most of it's reliability issues in recent years - but the aircon not working, the manual selector not working - seems that it's business as usual for Germany's most overrated brand.

mercedes problem is traction control that can not be turned off.

I've u had your ears openeds then u would've heard that those issue were just a matter of tuning.

topndope How ironic..."And nothing to do with weistec tuning on the car" IF you would have your ears opened.

***** That makes no sense at all. All vehicle alternators use voltage regulators, and an alternators maximum output as well as being rectified then regulated is connected to how fast the engine is turning, not how much power the engine is putting out - so it makes absolutely no difference if the car is tuned or not. I guess if the car had been tuned to increase the redline to way above the factory limiter it could overload the regulator, but that would do a lot more than just make some of the electronics stop working.

Merc and BMW build some of the strongest engines to date. It's the rest of the car that fails first. Transmission was the first thing to go out on my 5er.

Definitely. The Corvette ZR1 is supercharged yes, but is making 640bhp from a 6.2 litre engine. Besides, horsepower is all well and good but torque is important and too often forgotten. The V10 M5, great car, but had 507bhp and 268lb ft of torque. The E55 AMG of the time made "only" 469bhp but *520lb ft* of torque and was quicker (in a straight line anyway) than an M5.

Did he say you can't get 500 wheel out of an LS7? #wat
@xebek9 жыл бұрын
Pardon_M3 He said N/A, at the wheels, stock. He's correct.
@Basketballerphx9 жыл бұрын
xebek You can get 500 wheel out of an LS7. Obviously not stock, but EASILY with N/A mods. You can get 600whp with NA mods.
@xebek9 жыл бұрын
Pardon_M3 I know and I agree. He clearly used the parameter "stock" though, so your objection has no relevance. LS7's are capable of amazing hp and tq. That's not in question.
@Basketballerphx9 жыл бұрын
xebek Why would any tuner bring up what a stock engine makes at the wheels compared to a car with 15K+ into it? I honestly don't have the time to go back and watch it again
@xebek9 жыл бұрын
Pardon_M3 He wasn't comparing stock to tuned. He was comparing stock to stock, as in starting platforms. Ultimately, the LS7 has incredible tuning potential as well and his statement is a little misleading as a result. However, he was technically correct.
