Have you looked into a plant called Moringa (AKA ‘daun kelor’ in Indonesia)? It’s crazy how much vitamin and nutrients can be found in this common, easily grown plant. It cooks up pretty much like spinach and tastes great. Moringa can also be used as a powdered supplement to get its many benefits when you cannot locate it fresh from your grocery or wet market. Check it out. It’s truly amazing.

Drizzle sesame oil on your beef as you eat it. Kind of a Korean thing, delicious and nutty flavor. Cold pressed sesame oil is sold on line at Walmart.

I naturally have low blood pressure and one time I drank beet juice (about 12oz) because I ran out of filtered water and passed out about 2 hours later because my it made my blood pressure drop so low. Food is POWERFUL!

Yes, the problem with US cheeses are that they come from US cows milk, which is what Parmesan cheese made from and it is not aged long enough to take care of those issues. What you want is Parmigiano Reggiano Cheese which is made in Italy with the recipe that’s hundreds of years old and the cows there do not have the Cason that we have problems with. Also you can use sheep or goat cheese, which also is friendly to us humans.

My husband and I have goat cheese regularly! I have a hard time staying away from the cheddar, babybel, and shredded cheeses because it’s easy to throw in stuff and I grew up eating cheese… my husband has some lactose intolerance but takes the lactase enzyme when we eat it. I don’t seem to have any issues with dairy, except that if I’m sick it can make it harder to get rid of the gunk. In that case I avoid dairy till I’m better 😂

I think Italy does now have some of the modern, more US known cow breeds now as well i.e. the ones that produce A1 casein proteins. Reason why is because they do produce a lot of milk. But yes, their Parmesan does tend to be aged much longer than the stuff in the US. I got some 24 month stuff made out of raw, grass fed cow milk from Italy a little while ago. Didn't make me produce excess mucous at all, like a lot of cow dairy does. Normally I stick to sheep and goat because of that issue. I've found that cow cheese has to be aged about a minimum of a year to not bother me, but preferably longer. Wish I could find a lower fat version of some of these cheeses. Excess saturated fat is not good. A little here and there is not going to cause problems, but if you're eating like 50 grams of saturated fat (especially long chain) a day, it will.

@@Romns1513 It's a common misconception that it is lactose that is the problem. True lactose intolerance is actually quite rare. What it is in most cases, is an intolerance to A1 casein protein. Modern cow breeds that are very plentiful in the US, produce both A1 and A2 casein proteins. Up until a couple hundred or so years ago, almost all cows produced primarily just A2 casein proteins, but there was a mutation that occured during a period of intense hybridization to increase milk yield, and now many cow breeds (again, especially in North America) produce A1 casein proteins. These are very large, very sticky proteins that are extremely hard to fully breakdown/digest, and after awhile, it causes inflammation and the body responds with intolerance symptoms. For me, the biggest symptom is very noticeable excess mucous production. A lot of people don't realize this, because they are so mucous logged all the time. But if they go on a cleanse or fast of some kind where they cut these foods out for a month or more and then go back to them, then they will notice how bad it really is. The kids I work with are constantly stuffy with excess mucous. Noses dripping, sneezing, not breathing clearly, etc, and without active colds/infections.

Buckwheat is a seed not a grain. With Buckwheat be sure to read the instructions first. You need to add a raw egg in it and let it sit in the fridge for a while before stirring it in a hot pan til all the seed mixture is roasted and separated. Then add your water and cook. It's a traditional north European food. Very tasty and nutritive dense. We serve it with cooked bow tie noodles mixed into the seed mixture after cooking. 😊

@@JasonBuckman I don't like the industry naming convention, it's more accurate to call my birds free range, as they are free to roam the property. Pasture implies they are kept in a paddock/pasture/enclosed area. I know store bought eggs pasture range is the best but in the hobby farm space, they are either raised in a run, or if they are not enclosed we call it "free range". Doesn't matter at the end of the day what I call it since I eat them myself and I'm not selling them or otherwise trying to market them.

Buckwheat, sesame, popcorn, they are full with lectins. What about the disrupting properties for the gut? I noticed having more eczema when using it. Ive heard Sorghum, Teff and Millet are better because no lectins?

Intead of sesame oil you can get tahini with honey like we do in Greece for breakfast. Or go for hummus of middle east which has tahini in it.

I understand sweet potatoes (and beets?) have high levels of oxalates, that reduces the absorption of the good stuff, and could even have negative impact? How does one think about these?

i just ate loads of sweet potatoes, so when i saw this i had a quick google on how to reduce oxylates - boil em, which i did. discard the water - i was saving it to make a soup

All plants have something in them that reduces nutrient absorption (including fiber)… whatcha gon do! 😂 either don’t eat em, or just know, you’re not getting all the stuff they say you’re getting when you eat a particular amount. Make sure to eat plenty of meat and fat. Other stuff should just be extras if you need variety / really like a particular veggie or fruit and can tolerate it. Some people say they’ve done carnivore but feel better with some fruit or whatnot added in too. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@@genomedia44 the best thing for oxelates is to combine it with dairy(calcium) it will bind to the oxelates which makes it harder to absorb. But as long youre have no digestion problem or a history of kidney stones theyre fine. They even induce a hormetic response (not sure about oxelates but phytates does)

I love to eat sardines and hot sauce. It’s easier to make them go down plus I love to add raw chopped garlic to it for the extra health benefits and flavor and that goes well with hot sauce. And the hot sauce is not in oil.

It might be helpful to distinguish pre-packaged bagged microwave popcorn from something like the Salbree that enables you to pop popcorn in a microwave minus the weird stuff that's in the bagged microwavable popcorn.

You should check the ORAC VALUES of food it indicates how strong a anti oxidant it is. Most of the time things like spinach are way at the bottom. Canned cod liver has a real Boss omega 3 ratio sometime 6 times more then you need per day and vitamin A in overload and vitamin D 10 times as much what you minimum require

For those of us who care about low carbs, beets are a no-go. There's another vegetable that's a great source of nitrates though, to the point where its juice is sometimes used for turning pork into bacon, and that's celery.

FYI, Parmesan ≠ Parmegiano. Buy Parmegiano, or specifically Parmegiano Reggiano. It's regulated by the Italian government. Part of those regulations include where it was produced, how long it was aged, and what the cows were being fed. Parmesan is not regulated and, therefore, is not held to any standards and may or may not have any of the same nutrients or benefits.

I had bad cholesterol the total was 230. I have tried the Avocado every day for two months.I had a new Cholesterol test 247, but the good overtakes the bad. The Doctor wants me to take cholesterol lowering drugs. I said no. What should I do? Suggestions please.

Eliminate or lower your sugar intake for a while and go get checked again. I started looking into it bc I had high cholesterol too and apparently it’s all about sugar. That was my simple takeaway at least. I did that and my levels had gone down a lot in one month. I don’t know… but I too don’t like the thought of medication for it so I’ll try everything else

High cholesterol isn’t always a bad thing. Recent studies show that if you’re metabolically healthy and don’t consume much sugar the cholesterol had little effect on cardiovascular health.

I hate to be this guy .... but I was curious about your claims of 'high Astaxanthin in Sweet Potatoes ' at the 9:12 mark of the video, but cannot find any resources which support this. I have also reviewed the references/links you provided in the show notes, and still couldn't not find any support for this. did you mean " Anthocyanin " in sweet potatoes? If Astaxanthin, can someone provide any supporting documentation of this? Thank you.

Upgrade the buckwheat to "Himalayan Tartery Buckwheat". It has a very extensive nutritional profile. Also, chorella and spirilina.. These are incredible algae that should be your #1 nutrional resource.

@MeesterJ yes omega-7 and boatloads of calories the nutrient density per calorie ratio of hemp seeds is astronomically higher than macadamia nuts. Sure macadamia nuts would be great if you actually need extra calories and you are some super athlete or they are nice because they taste good but they are not some miracle food and should not be recommended over hemp seeds to 99% of people

Regular Buckwheat is easy to come by. "Himalayan Tartery Buckwheat" is expensive and hard to come by. Regular Buckwheat is common and pretty cheap.

The sardines don't absorb the oil, so it doesn't matter. Just drain them well, and rinse them if you want to before consumption.

i think you only should try seed if you have enough money or its to hart to get diffrent prebiotics. I personally focus on diffrent kinds of fibre, like chia seeds, cold potatoes, mushrooms.. etc. Its cheaper you need to eat anyways and its more proven and safe

Bad quality eggs aren't actually that bad. Yes, good quality is a lot better, but even bad quality eggs are good. Still better than any other food.

True. You can take a fish oil cap to offset the omega 6, but cheap eggs are a great protein and fat soluble vitamin source. And they’re cheap. By definition.

@@robbied5898 "Bad quality" eggs aren't actually bad quality. It's just bad quality compared to other eggs. It's good compared to other foods. Eggs are the best food, next to human breast milk of course, but we don't consume that as adults.

Problem with all the supplements they are so expensive, I know I know you get what you pay for but my supplement list is more then my car payments already and the problem with that is next week the “new science” could be they not good for you or this is bettter etc. It just gets confusing is all.

Sprats in Europe are even cheaper solution. Sprats are dirt cheap and are maybe lower on the nutritional list than sardines, but they are cheap, and good nevertheless. You can get them fresh (slightly salted) sometimes.

The Native American Indians popped corn for fun. They never ate it as it scraped all the way through and is damaging to the gut lining. That explained why I also got stomach pains after eating it.

Any idea why Saladino thinks omega 3 is BAD for us and he says we shouldn't eat seafood more than once or twice a week? I'm super confused by this and haven't heard why he thinks omega 3 is not good.

Polyunsaturated fats go rancid/oxidize easily in the body. That’s y ppl say not to take omega 3 supplements. Now getting your omega 3 from fish should be okay but maybe I’m missing something

@@ak1996able yeah he said our bodies aren't made for omega 3 and we shouldn't have fish more than once or twice a week. I eat fish at least 5 times a week. My omega 3 to 6 ratio is pretty high when I've had it tested and it's considered excellent by the tester.

A diet that contains fatty meat from grass fed, grass finished ruminant animals will have an adequate amount of omega 3 fats. Fish are usually contaminated due to polluted waters from human intervention. If you want fish in your diet and want to minimise the contaminants, go for smaller wild caught fish instead of farmed, as the younger fish have had less time to be exposed by the contaminants. Farmed fish are usually fed with poor quality food infused with artificial caratinoids to help with the appearance of the flesh, and antibiotics are generally used.

Thomas, you should put out a video on foods, especially veggies to consider for people who have to take warfran. We can't eat foods like broccoli and spinach because of the effects of the vitamin K has on this medication.

Hey @ThomasDeLauerOfficial loved this video as it aims so much on food lowering inflammation. Heve you ever tried to TEST your Omega 6/3 ration in your blood cells "erythrocytes"?? It shows how successfully you are getting those essentials from your diet 😉I work with this tech in Norway, pretty awesome stuff to monitor.

I'm pretty sure that microgreens are more nutrient dense than most things. At least compared to vegetables I know they are. Especially Broccoli and cabbage microgreens.

Even better is duckweed (the edible varieties). Spirulina and cracked cell fermented chlorella are pretty good too (but don't buy the inexpensive crap from China and most Indian sources). But yes, microgreens are way up there as well.

I love your channel and your approach Thomas but Seed probiotic supplements are too expensive compared to what you can get by taking a good probiotic with something like psyllium husk powder. Bacteria does not need instantaneous food with it when it hits your gut. Although that's ideal and you can simply add it by consuming your probiotic with soluble fibers, especially psyllium and fresh ground flaxseed, but any soluble fiber will feed the probiotics. Prebiotics are the food for our gut bacteria, such as psyllium powder. The volume that you need to get a good amount of prebiotics cannot fit into a capsule. Popcorn is nutrient rich but definitely not a superfood. Generally, superfoods are providing nutrients that have longevity providing qualities that are not commonly found in other Foods. You didn't name one thing in popcorn that is a unique nutrient that is less common. Popcorn actually spikes your blood sugar quickly. It's great as part of a balanced meal but it is definitely not a superfood

Superfood is more defined as foods that are especially and unusually nutrient dense for their mass and/or volume. Yes, no way popcorn is on that list. Agree with most everything else you said. I like to grind up chia seeds and make puddings with them. Incredible amount of fiber in them. 34.4 grams per 100 gram serving. It's like the real life "Colon Blow ™".

Hi Thomas. Appreciate all the information that you provide about nutrition but allow me to have some criticism. Mostly advise is based on the fact of weight loss or to avoid to gain weight. I understand that comes from your own past but there is a group that have really problems to stay on weight incl myself. I am 53 and never gained a pound since I was 18. I did 9 months keto diet but although have amounts of saturated fats and whipping I lost 4kg. Temporarily I am back on carbs and it is hard to gain back the weight. may I suggest you make a video with recommendations for the group of people where I belong too?

these days it is more important than ever to know where fish or other seafood comes from, (not just processed at) due to pollution in waterways from various factors. It is difficult to figure out exactly where food comes from sometimes, (for me).

Sesame oil - As with the other prized fat/oils, I no longer have confidence what we're buying in the stores is real and/or fresh - it's probably oxidized. Makes me wonder if I can smash-up a million of them and have them along with my macadamia crush.

I thought corn was was nutritionally deficient and did nothing for our bodies. And sweet potato, although I love them, are apparently high in oxalates? The whole oxalate thing messes me up. Anyway, I still love broccoli, and broccoli sprouts.
