CAD$14500 (USD$11000) OBO, newly painted, comes with everything, $500 for just the 4-bolt block. Email if interested, [e-mail] Edit: Just to respond to some recurring comments, the 4 bolt block is included with the truck. The 2 bolt is plenty to make double the hp this truck makes stock, the 4 bolt has a scored bore and needs a sleeve put in. Possible damage to crank, heads, quoted $2-3k to fix, likely end up being more. The difference now is it runs and drives, and the buyer gets to decide if the original block is worth the repair. We know a 4 bolt can be upgraded to make crazy horsepower. Any work we did to get it back to stock would be a waste of time and money lost. The nylon timing gear and chain will last the rest of this engine's life, with warranty. Cheap aftermarket parts won't last any longer. Tire kickers: Truck prices vary country to country, state to province... This truck is rust free and priced to sell here in Ontario Canada, not to be competitive in the U.S. market whatever that may be. After taxes, brokerage etc, importing from U.S. works out the same or more. It's our customer's truck - his price not ours, there's no commission for us and we have no vested interest in the sale. You can still make an offer, like with anything, and see what happens. I just don't want to answer a thousand emails asking what price it is, so we posted that info here. This is not a work truck. DEBOSS GARAGE While I know nothing about this truck besides what you stated in the video, that's not quite how pricing works. Now, $11000 US isn't bad for a truck of that age in that condition, but when you said about the paint costing $4000 so he'd be dumb to take less than $8k, that not how it works. Very rarely does a person get back the amount of money they put into a car. I know of several occasions where guys had trucks with a reasonable mileage (mostly diesel as that's what I pay attention to), put brand new transmissions and injectors in and a few even got a cheap paint job to make it look good. The trucks had little no no rust and still only got $6000-$8000 for it, and they spent over $8000k between paint, transmission, and injectors. And that's after having it listed for 4-6 months. It has a lot to do with what people are willing to pay for and the truck is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. Yeah it sucks that they most of the time they didn't make their money back, but that's just life.

A lot of people talk trash about the 454. I had a 1992 35 foot motorhome with the TBI 454 and pulled an 18 foot boat. Never got below 45 on the steepest hills and got 12 mpg doing it. It's a good motor.

Meanwhile my 7.3 powerstroke can be in 6th going up one of the steep mountains near me where you go across state lines pulling 10k+ lbs and getting 17 mpg the 454 is just a boat anchor the things it does a diesel does better and the small blocks out run it in drag racing

5 of the best years of my life was driving around a 90 454SS in San Diego California. New BFG's every 4 months or so. Only thing I did to it is the Edelbrock intake, Gibson exhaust and dropped the rear gearing for highway driving, as the 90 didn't have overdrive. One of the worst years of my life is when I sold it. Was burning more oil than gas. I cried when it left. Oh, put a real set of 454SS mirrors on that truck.

Sagging headliner, that cracked me up! That truck is in fantastic shape for it's age though, I love it. I'm working on a '93 c1500 shortbox with a hot 383 swapped into it, though the exterior is a bit of a mess after 300,000+ kms of Alberta roads, and 1 previous owner who decided to spray paint the bumper and cowl hood to match the flat black coating that came on his new front fenders... It's been quite an adventure so far, but these trucks are so easy to work on and find parts for, it makes for a fun project. Best of luck with the sale, and I hope the future owner enjoys it as much as I would!

That engine that you decided not to fix is a very good hard to find block with a cast steel crankshaft. I hope you didn't get rid of it. Also it is now no longer a numbers matching engine. It would have been better off to have sleeved the cylinder I can't imagine that engine not being able to be rebuilt.

Yea, I'd have probably gotten that damaged cylinder sleeved and a new set of pistons if I was keeping the truck. They aren't keeping it so I'd have sent it down the road with a used motor without new bearings. The old motor wouldn't get bearings if it didn't blow so my conscience is clear. People dive into repair jobs and get carried away sometimes

Always plastic gauge the bearings dry as oil and grease take up clearance and give you a false reading.

used GM engine? change fluids, bolt in, run it easy for about 30 minutes, then flog it to death for a few hours, if it hasn't blown apart and knocking, ship it :)

4 bolt main blocks are useless for street applications anyway. Two bolt blocks will hold 450 horses indefinitely.

2 bolt mains on a small block also don't have any problems holding 450 horses, it's usually the bolts that let go at 6000 rpm dumped, that's why I'm leery about reusing fatigued bolts. Replace them with hardened ARP bolts and the mains will be just as strong as a 4 bolt anyway.

What I'm especially curious about is why that 4 bolt 454 blew up getting rebuilt! Shouldn't you be reimbursed for a block they blew up on the dyno?

Scott wads zero rebuilds got it at 179kms has 894kms on it now one set of gears in the rear end 2 clutches 3 intake gaskets has been awsome I take good care of it it sees zero salt even my a/c still works. My kids love it I feel like a teenager when I drive it I don't think I'll ever part with it. But it's starting to use oil know I might re build or go ls we will see.

If the original engine isn't trashed, just rebuild it. If she has a 350, there is nothing like the unique sound of the 350 (5.7 liter) with its slightly different firing order. If it is trashed and you decide to engine swap, planning to keep it manual?

Carstuff111 I will keep it stick I have considered getting the 6 speed out of the diesel I am leaning more to putting a tune port in it they have good torque and I like the look. I have bounced back and forth to go with maf or speed density. I like speed density personally I think it fits the truck and keeps the underhood clean. I keep drinking it waiting for the mill to pop but it keeps on running. That's what Chevy do. But short and sweet I am on the fence I guess I'll figure it out as I go.

Oooooh... go tuned port, that would be sweeeet, and speed density for the win. I prefer having a MAP sensor over a MAF sensor any day if I have to take one over the other. My Grand Prix I had was MAF, and that thing was a picky bit.. I have a 1992 Honda Civic DX sedan now, and tuning with a MAP sensor, where you know the actual pressure in the system, a lot easier, for me anyway.

Also the timing on that truck is compensated by the computer. You only need to get the distributor within the window of the adjustment of the computer. I imagine you have about 15 degrees or more that it can be put at and the computer will compensate in either direction.

they didn't work that way, more or less all were "0 degree advance" with "timing connector unplugged" anything else would end up under or over advanced throughout the whole range.. and offset the fuel injection pulses too. although you can mostly get by with 2 to 4 advance if you run better fuels or modify slightly.

@Kathleen Shaw you are confusing metric system with decimals? really? you can use irrational numbers with the metric system but with the advantage of converting between metric prefixes like like half kilometer is 500meters, besides that you are already using those prefixes in computing for example, kilo-byte, kilo-meter, kilo-gram, mili-second, mili-gram, mili- meter (mili is 1/1000 of the unit, like meters, seconds, grams) is not complicated you are just not used to it, and i bet you could learn it fast if you wanted

Melling high pressure oil pump with steel distributor coupler, change to a steel cam gear timing chain, at 23:00 only use silicone in the corners where the intake gaskets meet. New crank balancer since you cannot tell how deteriorated the rubber is for a long trouble free engine. The truck new was a sharp looker and still does today.

*sigh* SMH... 230 was the max output of a TPI 305. I knew that late 454's after the '70s haydays were anemic, but damn. That's a wheezing block with serpentine belt setup, so compatible, well breathing heads alone are gonna be fun to shop for. I also know that Chevy had some multi port fuel injection setups for their big blocks that they dropped into test performance vehicles around that '90s era, but nope, they slapped TBI on as production and called it a day.

Awesome video, I know it would have drive the price up but you can wake up that motorhome 454 a with set of heads, the large oval 781 or 049 castings can be had for about $200 US currency, they're open Chambers the same as the 14081045 that you have on the truck but the 049 and 781 have larger runners with a little dingle clean up they make a nice notible difference over the peanut ports. Just my 2 cents I'm a sucker for these big heavy Chevy motors. No replacement for cubic displacement.

Rich I don't know if you ever noticed but the heads on that motor you put in the truck had the peanut port heads the original 454 had oval ports. The peanut port heads were on large trucks and motor homes. So that motor went down in HP from the factory motor. Just a FYI.

My 91 k2500, never seen a winter, had it appraised at 15k, the odometer stoped working at 285,000k, new engine was worth it, it was getting tired. 350TBI

A trick on GM flex plates, one of the converter bolt holes is actually smaller then the other 2 or 5 depending on the plate. Start with that hole and you won’t have to turn the engine over twice to tighten the converter bolts. Has always worked for me!

You only spend 4 k on painting a truck like that if you plan on keeping it! Something like that, you will never get out of it what you have in it. Kudos to the guy for keeping it nice, but it's still just a 454ss. I'm my neck of the woods, (se Virginia) it's just an old big block truck. the underhood lights on those were the absolute best! I hate that you left the plastic timing gear in, but it saves the owner money. Those were "The trucks" to have when I was growing up. if that is a real 454 ss truck, i think you should get what your asking for it. im not in the market too many irons in the fire as it is but its a desirable truck. i sold a 94 extended cab short box stepside 4x4 350 chevy 1500 in really nice shape but like 230k miles on it for 4500 just a few years ago. no doubt a 454 ss with half the miles is a more desirable truck. nice job on the engine swap.

Hello, I've been a fan of your work and your videos for a while now, keep up the great work! They had those corded lights in the engine compartment for a few more years after that, I remember having one in a 95 Tahoe. The cord was long enough to reach the trailer hitch in order to help with hook ups at night, very convenient. Keep in mind, this was back when just a few of us had flip phones, we didn't have a smartphone on us at all times with a bright led flashlight.

There is an older couple here in Springdale, Arkansas that has a couple of awesome vehicles. The first one was a little old lady (roughly in her 60s) that was driving an absolutely beautiful Chevy 454SS pickup......it had a nice sounding, louder than normal exhaust, and she chirped the tires after she had turned onto the road out of the Harps (local grocery store chain) parking lot. That truck was MINT! Then 2 days later, a gentleman in about his 60s, driving through the same Harps parking lot in an early 1990s Corvette, also with a louder than stock, nice sounding exhaust, pulls out into the road and also chirped the tires..... I hope to be like them when I am their age!! Beautiful vehicles, lightly modded.....still having fun with them.... And I will say here and now, if I had $11,000.00 US to throw at that truck, it would be mine and I would not even expect the AC to work, it would rarely (if ever) be used by me anyway. While I would be happy with a small block truck, I would LOVE this! And while this is a colector's item to a point, screw that, I would be using it to make some extra cash, and to haul parts around for my Civic while I rebuild it :)

doing bearings on a block with the crank in is a good way to do a "quickie" shop rebuild on an engine. When I was pushing the main bearing in, I tried to use a sharpened paint stick or a piece of Teflon or a piece of corian scrap from a counter top. Corian works the best as it won't splinter.

I probably won’t put a turbo on my daily 93 & didn’t put a turner on my 95PSD cuz I wanted the longevity. That old 95 as a pretty darn good truck, I’d get another one in the future as a toy w big injectors, big turbo & all those fun things & have my 93 idi has my backup reliable daily if the PSD breaks.

The sensor you were talking about on the right head is a knock sensor. There's water behind it so be quick when you're changing it unless you like swimming in coolant

I've ordered the entire undrrhood bulb assembly a few times over the years and installed them under the hood of my ski doo ( with LED bulb upgrade).. great for late night repairs under the tunnel .. or to use as a beacon at the end of remote lakes when groups get seperated without idling a sled for an hour

Good video, appreciate the time put into it very informative, thanks. A little advice for anyone reading this, when building an engine or anything for that matter if it's on the border of needing replaced replace it, timing chains aren't that expensive especially when you consider what happens when they break, and silicone is needed in those corners, oil pan, intake manifold, but be very careful with it NOT generous, when it starts hanging out of places it will fall off and find it's way too the oil pan. I've seen engine's burned up do too silicone plugging up the oil pick up and starving the engine of oil.

I got a 99 obs gmc 2500 with the 350 in it. 230,000 kms on it and not a spec of rust, regular maintenance. Cherry red colour with red bumpers and red rims. I think that’s what they called the “camper package” it’s also got black factory fender flares and Lund runningboards. Got offered $11,000 for it last year and still didn’t take it. (I’m dumb) but yeah. It’s a great truck.

I have done a fee swaps like this, taking a low mileage take out engine, swapping in new bearings and gaskets to get a quick and cheap runner. I would hang on to the original parts in this one though. One thing i would have done different is swap the stick cam AND timing chain. You left a bit of free power and torque on the table by leaving that junk motor home cam in it.

*Dude those lights are almost priceless. i have had 3 of those trucks with that light on them and each one of them i have had people offer me as much as $700.00 for the light under the hood like that one. IF that one is a REAL 454 SS and not just a 454 in a black truck then down here in the US they go for much more than $38K the lower the miles the higher the money it's worth. Condition is everything. he shouldn't take any less than $12,000.00 for this one. As for the miles those things get I had the 350 in an 89 Silverado Sport that i just gave to my son to restore. it has 270,000 very hard miles on it i bought the truck as a second owner back in 1995 with 90,00 miles on it and then i parked it because i got something newer (My 99 tahoe with almost all of the police package options on it) they usually take a lot of torture specially if you ONLY run Mobil 1 Synthetc in i. I was using Mobil1 (full gallon with 1 quart of Lucas engine treatment most of the time i had it. it's still running but my son wanted to restore dear old dad's truck, so i gave it to him to see what he could do with **it.LOVE** that truck! mostly because it was an 9 Sport and that first year there were only 5400 of those trucks made that were real from the factory "Sport" branded Silverado trucks*

Not sure where you are actually getting your information but that's not even close to true. it was an entire trim and accessories package and every year it was a limited production add on. my 89 silverado sport was made the first year to test the waters when those sold out as fast as they did GM mass produced a number of Silverado Sport trucks for 90,91, and 92 the original run of them there were only a little over 5,000 made though. I own one of those 5,000

btw i still have a soft spot for 90's chevy trucks, iv had a lot of them over the years, still have 1 its a 97 3/4 ton extended cab 4x4 350 with a 8 ft service bed on it. its a great truck, other than being a bit under powered being it tips the scales at 10k lbs everywhere it goes

I totally get what you're saying about the KBB... What they say it's worth and what someone is willing to pay for it are two different things. I bought a 79 K10 Scottsdale 4X4 stepside last Spring. Pretty sure I bought someone's good start on a project truck.The frame is excellent, the body is solid with only a few issues.Alumininum radiator with electric fans, bored 350 with a nice cam and a Holley Street demon carburetor.4 speed of course.Starts first crank everytime and runs like a scalded dog.Its a long way from show worthy but it's sentimental to me as I learned to drive in some of the old Chevys way before I was legal to drive.I hope to fix it up enough to pass it on to my son when he gets old enough to feel the same nostalgia as I do 😁... You could have taken that 2 bolt and turned it into a 4 bolt. We took a '78 high nickel block that was a 2 bolt and got 4 bolt main caps and had a machine shop cut the holes. I don't remember what we paid to have it done but that was back in 2004 when we built a pulling truck.

Those flex plates have one hole that had flat sides that centers the converter, so you don't have to leave the bolts loose. You just tighten the centering bolt and install and tighten the rest.

WOW that light is a great idea!!! I mean all my life I have always bought a drop light a fixed it to a 100 ft extension cord, then put jumper cable type terminals on the end so it connect to the pos and neg terminals and then replaced the bulb with a 12 volt bulb but you know same thing!!!

91-95 are the years of 454 SS too have because 255hp, 4.10s and 4L80e. 1990 my are the significantly more common and have 230hp, th400 w/3.73 gears.

I have one of those retractable light that I got from a junked Chevy for 5$ that I put in my 87 f150. I've never had to use it since the truck has never broken down, but the damn thing will almost wrap around the truck a whole time and come back to the engine bay. Got an left bulb for it and it'll blind you if you're not careful!

There is a trick to the torque converter bolts so you dont have to leave them loose. One of the holes in the flywheel is smaller, if you put that bolt in first, the rest will line up.

My real world experience tells me you have the same. Those link belt timing chains can slop out a lot worse than that one was, before they jump. I bet you would have installed a nice double roller chain and gear set if you would have had one on hand

Almost 35 years ago Edelbrock - and everybody else - determined that using the rubber gaskets at each end of the intake valley was a FOOLS ERRAND. Throw those stupid, worthless gaskets in the trash and lay down a 3/8" bead of RTV. Let it tack slightly then drop the intake manifold on. Done and done with no leaks. Those rubber gaskets leak from the time they re installed. Jeez Louse - I guess word travels slowly to Canada.

My tech school instructor always used to say you're way more likely to cause damage to your bearings by trying to remove the plastigage than if you just left it alone. I know you're careful and know your way around an engine, and god knows I do my share of weird pointless stuff too, but for the average viewer: leave your plastigage alone after you use it. It's designed to be harmless to your bearings.
