The 2024 Acura Integra Type S has finally been out for awhile, but I was able to get my hands on it thanks to Motortrend's Car of the Year contest! The new Acura Integra from the enthusiast side of things was not the best response, but Acura has promised the Type S was worth the wait. So is the new 2024 Acura Type S just a nicer Civic Type R? Not a fan. There isn't enough to distinguish it apart from the Type-R in my opinion. Driving experience feels very much the same. The only difference is the Integra is a little more roomy an luxurious an not even by that much of a nicer degree. Thought this would be the new age hero that'd get me to trade in my old Accord EXL-V6 Coupe that's finally been modified with a super charger making 378hp an 360lbs of torque. Sorry to say I'll hold onto my Accord. Just has a more raw an visceral feel. And past that you yourself didn't seem all that enthusiastic or impressed by it even in this review, just came across as strained. Maybe that's just me, but it really felt like it didn't meet your expectations at all. That or just unapologetic in how you started out having feelings towards it, which of course are all valid. Again, appreciate the content as always but personally I'm just not a fan of the Integra Type-S.

@@3joewj It's better in every way outside of memory electric seating positions. The performance is sharper and the comfort is better. There isn't a huge gap between the two, but i like the Acura more. My Type S is better in nearly every way than the Type R FK9 was too

It’s been 16 years since I’ve owned a car with a manual transmission. I first bought the Type R, cause of the great reviews and it felt great. But, being 46 with back issues, it just wasn’t practical. Finally picked up my Integra Type S back in September and never been happier! Honda did a fantastic job with both vehicles! @@kozurai6069 No, the cabin space is the same. The suspension is 20% softer, which gives you a smoother ride for daily driving. The seats aren’t nearly as bolstered as they are in the Civic, which makes the Type R a better track car. Their overall specs are too different, it’s really about the ride and creature comforts.

After months of getting screwed around by Honda dealers... I just purchased a black on black ITS for 3k under MSRP. The Acura dealership treated me like a gentlemen. When i got home my wife said... Thank you for not buying the one with the boy racer wing. Thank you Honda for making the ITS so good

I remember drooling over the RSX Type S, which kept true to the 90s DC2 style just with a K series and updated looks (at the time) I own a 2013 Si and I used to have a 98 Integra and absolutely adored it. Love the videos David! Keep them up! :D

I remember driving a 2001 type R with a Jackson Supercharger. It was a great daily driver, I never tracked the car so I couldn't say how well it performed with the suspension upgrades that were on the car. The company that did the mods forgot to properly tighten down each fuel injection hose. Lucky my girlfriend and mother didn't get into a car fire. But you could see a continuous line of fuel on the pavement.

I don't get why Honda refuses to make an AWD Type R/Type S. When you compare the Type R to it's competitors, it's acceleration suffers greatly because it's FWD. Their SH-AWD system is excellent, and it really makes me wonder why they even made it in the first place when they refuse to use it on their flagship car. It's downright weird.

It’s actually roomier in the typeR cause of the swooping roofline (headroom) in the Integra but overall Loving the type S over the typeR. But I would put the typeR bucket seats in the type S to make it more boy racer as you call it 😅😅😅

The biggest problem isn't the naming iIts the price. As beautiful as the Type S is for the money I would buy a 2023 Mustang Mach 1. More horsepower, more track focused and it doesn't drag around two extra doors.

Exactly. $52k msrp is insane. Especially, when Acura actually removes some of the features that the A-spec with tech has. It blows my mind that the A-spec has driver memory seat up to two, and electric adjusted passenger seat while the Type S doesn't. For $52k this car should have all the features the A-spec has, plus higher grade materials for the interiors and real leather seats.

You weren't wrong, the base model Integra was a "dud on arrival" with Integra enthusiasts, especially following on the heels of those fan renderings. Ultimately, Acura does build nice cars. I'm sure the Integra is a nice car. It's just not special. All their cars look the same and they blend in with the other cars on the road. The Integra Type-S is destined to become the ultimate Honda-swap donor car.

The Type S is a great all around package. What nags me is that it’s (essentially) a better looking, slightly smaller and slightly sportier 10g Accord at 2x the price. In 2020 you could get an Accord Sport 6-speed 2.0T for 25g. Personally, I would rather start with one of those, add an LSD / BBK / tune and save 15g while having a more usable rear seat over the Type S.

I'm having a relatively hard time finding a base Type R. Most of them have the optional wheels and carbon wing as far as I've seen which pushes them to within +/- a few grand of the Type S.

All I've seen are $10k+ and as high as $30k markup (with random addons). Locally there's a $1k deposit and a waitlist lottery where they pull a name out of a hat when a car shows up. No choice on color. Same thing happened with the FK8.

A midprice, reasonably weighted FWD car with brembos, an LSD, 6spd manual and a pretty potent engine, whilst being comfortable, but not too soft. I have a black 2024 ITS and it's a rocket ship. Took a gt350 from a 60 roll, i got smoked off the line though. It handles like it's on rails. I sold a 2013 challenger to get it and i have no regrets at all. It took me a minute to get used to the front wheel drive, but once you do you realize how insane this car can corner.

Needs double wishbone like the DC2 era Integras and Civics. But that would be impractical in a FWD car, because a transverse mounted engine won't fit between the shock towers in a double wishbone setup, so the hood grows longer, and interior space is sacrificed to keep the overall length of the car in proportion. But with EVs this doesn't apply... Tesla has a double wishbone suspension up front on all models, but the steering doesn't provide the sort of feel that double wishbone suspensions can unlock. The Mach-E uses struts. If Honda does an EV, they should bring back double wishbones, and use their experience making steering with quality feedback, to produce a more tactile feeling car. It would help set them apart from Tesla. The TLX and now the MDX are on double wishbones up front, so they never completely went away, at least for larger automatic transmission models. An EV platform would give them room to work it into a smaller vehicle, and might still have room for a rack (vs hub) mounted steering assist motor.

I just wish this car was smaller (width). I live in a small Jersey town where traffic is horrendous and roads are England narrow with cars parked on the streets. Hard to drive a car this wide. Even my Volvo V50 just perfectly navigates the streets. But I do love this and the Type R. Do you get used to driving this car which is now Accord and Camry wide? Does it drive like a large car or like a small BMW 3 series? I like the smaller WRX (not the looks). It's MUCH cheaper. Has AWD. And even an automatic.

I chose the Type S over the Type R because I’m 32 and the boy-racer look & interior of the Type R felt a little childish to me. The Type S is quicker stock, much better interior and sounds better too. I can tell by a lot of the comments here that they’ve never actually driven one. No, there isn’t really a better, new, enthusiast car at $50k in 2024 either. It’s not only the lightest 4 door 6 speed car on the market, it’s the best handling one too in its price range. I was a big fwd hater but gave this is a chance and it’s one of the most enjoyable cornering cars I’ve had in a while. Currently own an FD RX7, recently sold my boosted E36 M3, had an M240i, etc

I loved my FK8 Type R (in terms of performance) but the looks just didn't do it for me. FBO on e50 it made a really smooth 440whp and drove like stock when it needed to. Similar mods on the Type S would probably make it a killer daily / light track duty car. Even with stock power the FK8 was insanely capable. I prefer the look of the new FL5 R way more and the Type S looks sick provided it doesn't have the red or white accent interior. 10/10 from Acura - I haven't driven the new CTR or Type S yet but if they're half as good as the last car then they have a winning combo with this new generation. I kinda wish they'd play around with a DCT or 10spd auto option on the Acura side but keeping the manual as an option is pretty baller in 2024 for a company like Acura.

Kinda meh on the revised interior on both cars but still very nice. I had a 2016 GTI DSG with bolt ons before I bought the FK8. Excellent vehicle and I would totally consider a Golf R/S3.

Not a chance..... I'm not much of a Honda/Acura guy except for the 1st/2nd Gen NSX, S2000, RSX Type S, some Integra's that are done right. But like my disappointment with the V6 and only auto in the R35, Honda/Acura has failed it's enthusiasts over the last few years between the 3rd gen NSX that almost every big name reviewer hated because of all the electronic assists it came with it was no longer a drivers car, and now the "Integra"..... How did Honda not see that Unveil that bored and angered the world and not thought to themselves "😑 Oh sheeit! We-a whiw-wee fucca dis up biga time 😓" And scrapped it and made it better. Made it what the enthusiasts were hoping for. I've seen 1 new Integra on the road so far and guess who was driving it... Some little old grandma probably as a daily errand car, grocery and prescription getter. I thought it was just another random Acura except for the fact that it says Integra in a terrible giant font on the sides. OK rant over

The thing that gets to me about it is that it IS so similar to the civic when it could have been unique....I know all brands have been digging out old names (and in most cases killing them [looking at you Eclipse Cross]) but given that this looks and seems to feel just an upbadged civic...The cars that I would compare my thought process to the most would be the nissan 350/370z to the infiniti g35/g37. I don't think any effort was ever made to claim that they were different in any significant way, just different badges and trim levels on the same models. Maybe I'm just getting caught up in the integra vs civic naming, but really feels like a cop-out when they could have brought back a model line that so many people had fond memories of.

As a eg hatch owner and a 2023 wrx owner I love the idea of another integra but I just don’t get where its place is. Who’s buying a luxury car with 300hp and manual? Compared to Audi,bmw,Lexus. Let’s not mention that Acura already has the TSX type-s which looks close the integra and has a 350hp v6 turbo AND AWD. I just don’t see where they were going with it or what market they’re targeting.but I do still believe it’s a nice car but for the price I don’t agree,hence why I bought a new wrx instead of a Honda

So far Acura has sold over 1800 in half of 2023. So a lot of people are buying it. Is the best selling compact under a premium brand based on posted sales numbers by manufacturers. Got a few valid points as to why I went with one. 1) CTR is extremely difficult to buy at MSRP. Tried for a year in many states without any luck. 2) Audi, BMW, and Lexus don't offer a manual vehicle for less money. 3) Took me one week to find one at MSRP. 4) TSX-S is more expensive (%5K more), doesn't come with a manual, huge car with small interior dimensions, heavy and less agile. In fact, the passenger volume is smaller in the TSX vs the Integra. Don't need AWD in where I live. 5) The ITS is a car that comes with all the goodies from the factory that makes it a super sport compact plus a few other things. No need to mod it at all like a WRX. The WRX is an excellent car with lots of interior space but the car is cheaper for a reason. Is a fact that if Subaru makes an STI version with all the goodies like beefed up trans, suspension, BBK, more potent engine, LSD Differentials, etc. This car will be in the 50s in today's economy. David and these clickbait titles, man. Does the Integra Type S suck? Mechanically? I doubt it. Its a luxurious CTR. Realistically? Yea for its price point. DC2 Integra was about 24K new in '01. Thats about 43K today. The ITS starts at 51K and change. In reality the market around it, and cars now sucks but i guess thats a different convo. The ITS is a great car but at 52K, you probably could get something slightly used with way more performance.

For me, two things I like the least about the Type-S... 1. Is the rear hatch being so high and pulled in tight around the tail lights. It takes away from the usability of the rear hatch when compared to it's twin, Type-R. Acura should have kept the lower hatch opening of the Type-R and split the tail light in two parts like the DB8 Integra. 2. The seats. I want the Type-R seats in this car with all the extras. Not the "old man luxury" interior look Acura has embraced for decades now. I think I would rather the Type-R with the Type-S suspension module.

It doesn't really have the old man luxury interior. It has the same as civic interior with some slightly better materials, good sound system and a heads up display. I don't know if it's better to have this VS the old man luxury interior.

For me, the "old man luxury" interior look is a lot to do with the colors available and the slick non-sporty 'leather' materials on the seats. Because without a doubt these are the standard Integra/Civic seats recovered in different material. Acura has been doing this same thing for a long time. I would expect that as a dealer addon leather package or even something aftermarket not from Honda/Acura themselves. I had higher hopes for what the interior would be just from the seats and materials I expect to see in a Type-R product.

Just look at the WRX TR that costs 42K and lacks many of the performance upgrades that the STI offers like LSD, more powerful engine, beefier transmission, aggressive suspension, etc. This alone would be a jump of more than 10K.

If the Japanese car companies would do what the American car companies would do and make a throw back looking car with a recognizable name and solid performance they would sell the living hell out of them. dc2 Integra, bug eyed WRXSTI , EVO 8, 3000GT, 300ZX, r32 Skyline GTR, second gen MR2, G2 Eclipse GSX ect. Mitsubishi alone could revamp the brand as only performance cars. Grrrrr, it makes me mad and sad that cars get bigger, more complicated and either turned into crappy cross overs or discontinued. Too bad they have the high lip at the trunk, much like the old RSX had which makes unloading items more of a pain in the back. I like the Type R better, it looks better and it's probably better on the track but hard to say since it's much the same car as the Type S. The only think I like better about the Acura is more sound deadening and maybe a slightly softer comfort mode.

So the only points id give the Type S is its looks. It looks amazing and better than most cars being built its amazing what they did with styling. The only thing i dont understand is who should be buying this? The Mustang kills this in performance, is right up there in looks, has a better interior, and more customizable alongside being RWD and not FWD. Its an amazing looking car but theres better cars for your money if that makes sense. The ecoboost HPP mustang even kills this

True the mustang is a great performance car for the money. The camaro SS offers great value too. But they both have a big problem. They don't offer the rear sitting needed for a guy that have to travel with family. For that reason alone I picked the ITS over those. Offers a manual, excellent performance, nice interior and great looks. If money was an issue then an EN might be my other option.

It’s a good car, the issue is its value proposition for its price. Consider the A-Spec top trim is 36k VS 51k where the differences really is just the power train and brembo brakes. (That’s not even mentioning that you lose certain features like a moon roof, power seats on the passenger seat and much more gone) Is a K20c and a set of brembo brakes really worth 15k??? I don’t think so and a lot of people who are actually smart with their money agree.

So I want a 4 door with sufficient rear seat room, plenty of cargo space for the groceries,with all the goodies that make it a super sport compact (BBK, aggressive suspension, decent power, aggressive body kit), proven reliability record and a manual transmission. This is a car that doesn't really need modifications is perfect the way it is. What else I can get new that is better for less $$$? A CTR, if you can find one at MSRP. No need to justify it, is what it is. Everything is going up and there is nothing we can do about it.
