This kind of reminds me of how the axolotl is neotenous. It has an adult form, but it never undergoes the metamorphosis naturally. I think that may be what that 1788-1 was communicating. However, when an organism evolves a trait like neoteny, it's usually advantageous for the organism's survival. Food for thought.

That was a trippy one, the idea of humans being a species of juveniles, because we've been deprived of something we need to finish our metamorphosis into adults. It's like the Axolotls he referred to, who live their whole lives as juveniles, unless someone injects them with iodine to trigger their transformation into a tiger salamander.

If a metamorphosis has to be triggered by external means, it’s not part of a species natural life cycle. SCP 1788-1 are known to be narcissists. The idea that they’re the natural progression of human growth or proper evolution of humanity is most likely the result of that egotism.

@@LoganWH8 I don't know about that -- though I can't think of any examples of induced metamorphosis in the wild, natural metamorphosis is largely a hormone-mediated process, and such processes definitely can require external stimuli to initiate. A female ferret, for example, doesn't start ovulating without the very violent mating ritual initiated by a male, and many animals need the right light and temperature levels to enter hibernation or brumation phases. Likewise, the reason iodine works on axolotls, is because they need iodine to make the necessary thyroid hormones. All of which is not to say SCP-1788 is right, it's just not entirely implausible.
