In "The Rats In The Walls", an American rich guy travels to England to restore the castle of his ancestors not knowing about the abhorrent acts his ancestors commited concerning cannibalism and inbreeding and that the castle was in Roman times a temple dedicated to Cybele, a fertility goddess whose cult was persecuted during the Roman Empire, which involved in bloody sacrifices and self-harm. Also, the castle still preserves the bad energies that in the end turn the main character insane.

Indeed. It showcases what happens when mating with family members: you get something that is barely clinging to life or has frequent instances of "death" and activity. I should add that it was Hapsburg that coined the "Hapsburg Lip" usually associated with inbreeding. I think it was either Leopold I or Hapsburg himself who "had a cleft chin, a heart the size of a peppercorn, a single testicle, and charcoal black lungs." This is mostly paraphrasing, mind you. Side Note: Peppercorns are actually very tiny in comparison to the human heart. So, that in and of itself may be an exaggeration without visual evidence on the medic's part at the time.
