Thanks for the humor Kerry. It's cold and dreary here in freezing rural Colorado. You are my go-to channel for looking at offsite built homes. Yeah, too bad us common folk are being priced out of ever owning a home of our own. This at least gives me hope. I used to design multi-million dollar homes (pre-COVID) and thot that maybe, someday, I'd be able to design and build my own. But life changes and we must trudge on. 😬🙃

60K (including the bonus goodies) is a great price for a pre-fab of this caliber. The people who are able to build tiny for 30K or so usually do two things-- source many of their materials second-hand and build the thing themselves. These are a great option for people who don't want to self-build but still want a tiny get away.

There seems to be a few flaws/oversights in most prefab propositions:1. Back-country and off-grid locations are often accessible only through dirt and mud roads - hence hard to access by semi-truck or a flatbed. (Shipping by road is typically 5$ a mile and the truck operator will charge more for difficult access.). 2. Getting a crane onsite is even harder. Crane operators typically charge a lot to get a crane to a remote site. 3. So much exposed glass is not a good idea in the back country - the R-value is terrible and replacing broken panes is a pain.

Another great video! Thank you. I didn’t calculate the per foot cost until after the presentation so as not to interrupt the flow. The larger of the two you featured could be used as a permanent home for someone single, like myself. The challenge would be to identify where the house could legally be placed. Another very interesting product line! I'm specifically looking for something that can be bermed and turfed (I grew up in tornado alley and want my next home to double as a storm shelter) so I'm limited - as far as I know - to the Huga concrete modular units, that claim to be strong and stable enough to bury. Could you take another look at them and see if there is any evidence of that claim? Also wondered if you could do a review of the Multipoint Modular foundation system, which I read was represented at the IBS 2022 in Orlando. It's basically a prefab steel tube foundation for a house that doesn't require concrete - so it's a moveable foundation! Thanks again for your well researched videos. I look forward to them and watch them as soon as they appear in my feed.

Does the public actually DEMAND ridiculous quantities of glass? I see so many disadvantages to so much glass, and so few disadvantages to more modest windows. I could never buy such a thing. Otherwise I would be very interested. I had to have my cabin largely rebuilt years ago after a flu fire. I ELIMINATED 3 3X3' windows in the process, that I had almost never used. Usually kept light-blocking roller shades down on them. So now my 12X40' cabin has a total of about 11.4 sq ft of actual glass, mostly to the south, not including 1 more 3X3 that I seldom raise the light-blocking shade on. PLUS about 4.5" more glass on the front door which lets in light from 3 more 3X3 windows in the mud room. This is perfect for me. On overcast days I run from 40 to 120W of incandescent lights. If I went with LEDs it would use a fraction of that much current. Since I am 68 and far-sighted, if I have to read some small print on paper I turn on more light briefly. I have no craving for bright light. As a result, the cabin is much better insulated and does not cool off so quickly once the wood stove goes out. And I live in Arkansas, not Canada. How can Canucks want so much glass? And there is much more wall space to use for shelves. And much less glass that needs to be kept clean (not that I do). I live in the woods but do not spend much indoor time gazing out. If I do want to look at the woods and pond, I stand by a window. Usually indoors I am sleeping, working at the PC, or working on projects indoors. I do not sit back a stare outside for hours. I see plenty of outside when I am outside in nice weather.
@squidbeard4922 жыл бұрын
I kinda get it for air BNB in some nicer wilderness areas. I'd much rather have my privacy while inside, but I think the glass is just to make them look bigger I'd also prefer walls for shelves/storage or something useful

@@squidbeard492 Yeah. I have actually LIVED in a 14X20 cabin in the woods for 8 yrs, and currently my 12X40 for 10 yrs. Send an advance team of servants to polish the windows. OK for backyard ADU's, though, especially in a private and nicely landscaped back yard.

Looks nice as many of them do but my problem is not price but SIZE! As a vacation cabin novelty it is perfect but. who, besides a homeless person or a fanatic minimalist, would want to live in 200 sq feet full time? Perhaps two DUOs attached to make one small 800 sq foot home for $200K would be OK. Plus, if there is a loft you automatically exclude most seniors who would be a logical market for such a thing. Also, how sturdy are these? Will it hold up in a storm or still be livable 30+ years from now or is it just another fancy disposable novelty in a society that increasingly produces throw away ticky tacky versions of everything?

Another TH manufacturer joins the fray, but with only two models equipped with full bathrooms (beginning at $71,000!), I can't consider these as serious options for most people. Too many of the TH makers are still playing to an elite market, and NOT to the much larger group of home owners who are seeking Grandma-friendly or Rental-income solutions. THESE Folks ask questions like "No bathroom?", "Who's going to clean all that glass?", and "Why is my whole heating bill going into a 13-foot tall ceiling?" A significant AND still untapped market!

Thanks for finally getting what ' affordable ' means. Yes, it's all relative. But what if someone kept telling you they had an "affordable" product. Then turned around to tell you was 'only' 6 figures? It's kind of an ass move. Not saying you're an ass. Just that it's an ass move. A good rule of thumb is it should be HALF of six figures. So 50,000 should be the cut off anytime and everytime you want to label it as "affordable".
@maenewcombe65432 жыл бұрын
Is this only a cold country structure or would it also work in the Southwest of the US? Also, what is the tax situation? And I think you said it's "wired for solar" - putting in what ballpark solar installation could cost would be helpful. When you show the diagrams of the layout, it would be very helpful if you labelled each area as what it is, i.e., living room, dining, bedroom, etc. I couldn't figure it out even when going back over it. I agree it's a great look and probably worth every cent, but I think there are undisclosed costs. Also, a few weeks back you showcased a company or model called Tini, that I remember as being more economical. How would you compare the two companies and their structures in relation to their delivery process (hard to beat "white glove" delivery process, but that's a catchy phrase also used in the medical world as meaning concierge type service. Are the Tini structures also offering great delivery service without using the catchy phrase?
