For information: Basically, Aled in the comics has his own story and plot etc in another comic/book which is why for the adaptation, they changed his character to separate/highlight Aled’s own personal story. Issac is a replacement character for him but the reason Isaac didn’t have as much of screen time or lines is to see how the fandom reacted to his presence. But if renewed for a second season, Isaac will become his own character with his own plot.

11:20 Actually Aled got replaced by Isaac in the Netflix series because he has his own little story that is not shared in the Book 1 but in around Book 4 and radio silence (which is it's separate book) it would cause continuity in the storyline and things were rushed that were supposed to fit into one season (Like Tao wasn't supposed to know about Nick and Charlie's Relationship until the Paris trip and he's wasn't supposed to get with Elle before the Paris trip,As well Tara,Darcy and Nick Being more a part of the group)And because they didn't know if it was going to have another S2. Tao was told by Charlie that he was “straight” and then he got bad info that he was into a girl, Tara, and the sort of kids Nick hangs out with/on the rugby team just topped off by his fear of being alone made him a complex character. Fierce friend to a big fault, but he even said that if he had known earlier, for certain, that he would have eased off and not be so intense. As for Imogen, she was NOT doing a performative asking out in front of a crowd; she was pressured to ask him out just like Nick was pressured to accept. For her inevitable rejection, both handled it exceptionally well. Nick is a GOLDEN RETRIEVER lol. It is tough to empathize with characters that unfortunately “get-in-the-way,” but whatever they’re doing isn’t coming for a malicious or conspiracy-theory sort of way to road block Nick and Charlie’s ship. As of season 1, Ben and Harry are true and utter trash. One for being a manipulative closet case who gaslights poor Charlie into being with him in secret to be used, and Harry who is an immature little turd that thinks it’s cool to bully and throw around his homophobic slurs and “jokes.” While it’s nice to want Nick and Charlie to be in a protective bubble for their romance to flourish and thrive, sadly, there are external and internal forces that complicate things.

the show is rlly good!!! i do personally prefer the comics but ig i read them first and also i binge read them all and its super fleshed out afterwards? and while the show is the first three chapters there are many scenes and characters brought into the show from later on. also alice oseman has a wide range of books in the same universe, and aled was removed since giving a fleshed out storyline in the show would be difficult and render a radio silence (one of her books where hes a main character) adaptation impossible. charlie's older sister also has her own story, the first story alice oseman wrote (when she was 17!) also i love hearing people talk about heartstopper (especially your channel) its so fun!

I have watched heartstopper about 7 times now, it is litterally my new comfort show and I love it so so much. I love the show, I can't wait for the things that are about to happen in the next two seasons! I don't think Imogen asked Nick out on a date in front of everyone on purpose, Harry was kindof antagonizing her, calling her a whimp for not asking Nick out. I assume Imogen just wanted to ask to Nick talk in private but because of Harry's comments she ended up asking him out, you can see that's she's not comfortable in that situation either and other than that she's quite a caring and understanding girl, she really cares about Nick.

I will absolutely share my thoughts and feelings about Heartstopper First off, I can relate to feeling even more sad and alone after watching Heartstopper. I loved the show so so much, I've watched through it a few times by now, and want to again, I'm in the middle of a watchthrough right now. I have never related to a character in anything just overall more than Charlie. Especially when it comes to the stuff included in the comics past what was adapted for season 1. I love Charlie, I feel like I've got a celebrity crush on Joe Locke (which I've never really had one before so can't say for sure but I think so), I just love Charlie so much. Obviously there's plenty of stuff that is different between us, but while watching the show sometimes it just felt like I was watching the life of British me. Favorite parts! Basically anything where Nick and Charlie are showing affection for each other is a given so I won't list every single one. THE AM I GAY QUIZ WAS PERFECT. I also liked the development of all the side characters like Tara and Darcy, I LOVE Imogen you can talk to the wall if you don't I NEED to see more of her slaying as an ally in season 2 I don't make the rules just the demands, the sports festival was probably the most favorite part, the beach date was top notch, it looked like a dream, especially for little gay ol' me who does not even live a little bit close to the beach. Oh also the picture frame thing made me cry the most out of the whole show. The art teacher reminds me of a gay guy I'm friends with who is a middle school theater teacher and I feel like he would act the same way for any of his students. Little things that annoyed me, hmm. I don't feel like there really are any. Maybe there were times where some issue would come up and I'd be like well that's not how I would have reacted but I guess this is fine. I am not gonna lie, I wanted to see Ben get a chance to redeem himself (or get together with Harry either works) and I'm completely ok with it not happening but it also could have been cool to see him grow as a person and not be the worst ever anymore. On the note of Harry, him getting suspended at the end of the season I felt like didn't make sense. They say it was for fighting but Tao was the one that started the fight and he got off completely fine. Oh well. Tao definitely was a pot stirrer but it wasn't really intentional unlike many people I knew in high school so it's fine I guess. Comparisons to the comic! I read the comic after watching it too, I've read all of what has been written beyond what we've seen so far. I thought that it was very true to the original and I thought that everything they added made it better, like the triple milkshake date and the sport's festival for examples. It definitely made more sense for Charlie to be a social outcast. While I was reading the comic I was actually thinking that it didn't make sense for Charlie to be popular when he had been bullied and pushed to the side so hard when he was gay and then a few months pass and he's all back to normal? To be honest, I didn't feel like Charlie's brother added all that much so I thought he's kinda cute but he's definitely not necessary and if they cut him so they could focus on other things I think that's fine with me. I didn't notice much beyond that that was cut, especially because the lines blur between what has and hasn't been adapted yet, but I hope we can get Nick's supportive rugby friends in the future. I definitely prefer the show to the comics, anymore that's just a medium I prefer more, but the comic is still very good and I'm going to continue to keep up with it until it is finished. There are plenty of scenes that I'm really excited to see how they adapt, particularly this one where Charlie and Nick are pretending to be just friends around Nick's brother and dad and Charlie's like alright mate, pal, bro. I just thought it was super funny and I wanna see that one most. Last thing, about the am I gay quiz. When I saw that come up I was laughing a lot because it made me think of all the quizzes I took when I was figuring myself out, trying to use them as magic straight spells that had the almighty power to turn me straight, and so seeing Nick type that in made me laugh because I was thinking back on how stupid and in denial I used to be, but then I felt bad for laughing when Nick got his results and started crying because if I had answered truthfully on those quizzes and wasn't so hard in denial that I would just retake it until I got the answer I wanted, I probably would have cried too and I just know how it feels to be in that spot and it wasn't something I wanted to laugh at. But I just love that it was included because it is absolutely modern young gay culture. Quintessential. The aftermath for me is it made me watch other gay shows, I watched Young Royals, I watched Alex Strangelove, I watched SKAM, and now I want to write a story of my own but knowing me there is legitimately no way to tell if I will ever finish it. I do have lots of ideas for it though. And I crave a relationship more than ever now

most ppl probably haven’t seen it but heartstopper actually caused a bit of controversy on twitter because of alice osman basically dissing BL. it’s a very nuanced subject and this isn’t really the place to discuss it, but i find it so telling that of all shows heartstopper - literally a sweet meet cute slice of life - inspired so much talk on about the ethics of BL and western narcissism regarding mlm fetishisation when no matter what lesbians say nothing will ever be done about the rampant and socially acceptable fetishisation of wlw. lesbians have been shouting out for DECADES and yet we still get mainstream straight men saying “you a lesbian, me too” / “i’d do anything for a blonde dyke” etc, with such lyrics being MEMED, when you can’t even post about BL online without your comments being flooded by people calling you a fetishist. one ever seems to care that lesbians are literally no. 1 porn category, that bi women are more socially acceptable than bi men because bi women play into sexual fantasy, that lesbians face excessive sexualised violence daily. this isnt heartstoppers or alice’s fault, but i just find this sickening.

i heard about this and didnt alice just say in response to people asking her to put sex in heart stopper that she wasnt going to because gay relationships can exists without sex? i believe it was a comment on tiktok or something and she was dissing yaoi (and bl, for some reason, even though heartstopper is technically bl…) because it is made by cishet women for cishet women. thats all i really know, though. i definitely agree with you though that people dont seem to pay enough mind to the fetishization and sexualization of lesbians. it’s disgusting
@user-xh8tl1su6x2 жыл бұрын
@@castro_. pretty much. from memory, what she said was relatively minor and, imo, out of genuine ignorance. which makes the whole drama/response even worse. what people were criticising her for was her distinction between BL and “yaoi” because, of course, yaoi IS BL - it’s just an outdated and misogynistic term for it. but it brought to light how east asian queer rep is unfairly deemed gross and fetishistic when western media produces the exact same story and is instead seen as “ground breaking representation”. i think there is a valid argument regarding cishet women fetishising mlms, but even this is flawed as it’s based on the assumption that the majority of people who write/enjoy BL are cishet women. there are many cases of people who “were” women realising they were actually transmasc/mlm/ace/wlw because of BL, many of whom aren’t able to come out, especially in east asia. even alice osman is NB and ace, i think. and personally, i do not know a single cishet person into BL - they’re all wlw or trans (and there’s reasons for this, but this isn’t the place to discuss). not to mention most p0rn0gr@ph!( BLs are made for men by men. there’s a lot i can go into here, but the topic is extremely nuanced. but yes, this all comes back to the fact you can’t even mention BL in a comment without someone “protecting the gays” and yet wlw are raped and murdered for the fact of being wlw out of sheer sexual sadism, and such sexual sadism is socially acceptable and even mainstream. it’s disgusting.
@castro_.2 жыл бұрын
@@user-xh8tl1su6x yeesh, that’s pretty bad. i dont think it makes sense for alice to be criticizing rep from a different place when the rep on the same thing here is essentially the same. heartstopper is the same as any east asian bl. just western. i feel like alice probably doesn’t understand that yaoi is bl but bl isn’t yaoi, or that the two exist in AMERICA and they are TERMS that aren’t exclusive to east asia and are definitely not a stamp that means ‘this is a fetish!’. i definitely agree that most people make the assumption that most people who reads bl is cishet but i don’t think that assumption isnt always incorrect. i know loads of people who are cishet and are into bl, as well as non het who actually fetishize bl. but i guess that shows that the assumption needs to be critiqued. plus, most bls are usually written by queer people, as you mentioned. i cant remember the last time i saw a bl that was actually written by a cishet woman. its usually just the people who consume that content that i guess are more likely to be cishet. i also find sense with the statement many people usually figure out they are queer through things like bl. a little bit after finding bl, i found out that i was not strictly attracted to women as well as on the ace spectrum. now, on the part about the sexualization of wlw, i think it’s absolutely disgusting when people get on each other’s backs about mlm but when it comes to lesbians it doesn’t matter, or people will just simply ignore it. its crazy that people who are really into bl, will call gl disgusting or say things like “thats not my thing” which i see a lot. then theres gross men who fetishize wlw, lesbians, bisexual women, all because they think its ‘hot’ and too much of the time they act like that those women are made to please them. wlw is too often rather seen as gross or are overly sexualized or not mattering and it’s terrible.

I've lost count honestly how many times I've watched the show at this point since it came out. It makes me so so so happy. That fact that Tao was like that has a story behind it. Tao was the only one who witnessed Charlie's unwanted coming out one year before. Tao saw how people like Harry made Charlies days like hell. And Tao didn't saw the things we saw. He sees just Charlie and Nick flirting and things that Nick will just mess with him. In Tao's eyes Chalie is his "must protect at all costs". It gets more clear in the comic where it is less drama, but also slower paced. Imogen is a character who doesn't exist in the comics. She Got literally pressured by Harry (again) to ask Nick out in front of everybody. It is very clear that shefelt uncomfortable as well. And Nick is simply Nick and says yes. What i like is that Imogen has a nice side arc. The smile she gave when Nick and Charlie walked past her at the sports event in E8 was awesome. She slowly understood Nick in a healthy non bitchy way. What i don't like is how Ben was adapted. In the comics Ben is clearly NOT Nicks friend at all. Yet in the Series he acts like he belongs top Nicks friend group. Also him appearing everywhere where Harry was made it weird. I would have adpated Nicks friens liek Sai, Otis and Christian or at least one of them.

I don't think that confusion was intentional but maybe. The "I'm not homophobic btw, I'm an ally :)" scene was really funny but also like facepalm moment. I think those things made me perceive her as annoying and pushy, which got me confused when she quickly accepted Nick's rejection. I want to watch it again to see it with more foresight and clarity cause maybe it'll make more sense then. With Tao all of the changes are understandable, I just prefer how it happened in the comics. Mostly the last plot point that doesn't happen until the Paris trip and happens a bit differently in general. ANYway now that I got my lil nitpicks out I want to watch it again but I don't have netflix so uhh

as sum1 who has been reading the comic way before the show came out i can say that i rlly like the adaptation! Alice oseman (the author of the comics) worked on the show as well so that impacted it!

Such a good to be true movie. It hurt when we fantasize how magical and how the character are so perfect but in real life it never happen.

With how close the show is too the comic: Alice Oseman was there for every day of filming! She definitely had a say in the show!

7:24 nahh you are being unreasonable. she was actually looking out for her, she knew her history and how much shit she's gone through in her previous school and she is black on top of that so it's natural instinct she would worry about her being alone or bullied here. a bad or annoying teacher would ignore how she is doing or force her to do shit she doesn't like. she was just giving her a lil push to put herself out and not shut her down from others.

there's still an opportunity for nick's brother to be in the show, he's not around in the first 2 volumes of the books either, as he's off in university in the heartstopper universe - i believe he'll have somewhat of a presence in season 2 or 3, I've yet to read volumes 3 and 4 so unsure which he makes an appearance in - but his character is a bit of an asshole so I'm v curious to see who plays him and what they might change.

I have a video idea, So, there is an app called fairy tale high where you get to make your own ever after high characters and u can make your own just for fun, but it does cost 0.99$ in the App Store, but it would be a really cool idea to see one of my FAVORITE KZbinrs to make and think of their own characters, I hope my comment gets to you and u can make the video as soon as possible! 😊

Aled was replaced by Isaac in the show because Aled features in another book by Alice Oseman (the author of heartstopper) called radiostatic and he's more developed there and they didn't want to make the show a radio static adaptation and they created Isaac so they could explore being aro ace in season 2

not ranboo being on the thumbnail 💀 (also I’m also obsessed with this show)
@comcat8524 Жыл бұрын
Aled and Isaac are two different characters! Aled has a whole novel about his story and the author wanted to do something new for the adaptation, he's an original character for the show and is going to have his own plotline focusing around asexuality in season two (or so I've heard) I also read the entire comic in two days. immedicated

Pretty sure someone already said this but just in case: the creator of the comic Alice Oseman wrote the show so the loyalty of the show to the comic maybe because of that
