It would be interesting if someone develops an actually good AI (not 20xx) that adapts to your playing and punishes your weakness. Another cool thing would be an AI that learns from specific players and play like them, so we can play a version of Mango or Zain or something like that

I remember as a kid I wanted to unlock stuff for playing hundreds of vs matches so what I did was go to Jungle Japes, set the CPU to Ness level 9 and I think I would play as Yoshi, start a match with 1 stock and stand still. If you did that every time Ness would immediately jump into the water and die (he would do this on any CPU level but below 8 he would walk of the edge while at 8 or 9 he would double jump straight off and it saved a few seconds. I'd play on my GBA while he did this over and over

Jigglypuff also can’t recover. She’s programmed to use to up-special like every other character except Luigi, and Sing is useless as a recovery. Makes me wonder if Melee’s rushed development led to the wrong character prioritizing side-special over up-special.

When I'm playing Melee (Btw I main Mario), and when I'm against a Luigi, never have I felt a computer being smart, but also being dumb like Luigi has. It can beat me up a bit on stage but offstage... It's so sad.

I've seen that Ness clip used as an exploit to win a match as every starter character and unlock another character. (Wasn't it Marth?) Heck, that's how I've done it in recent years.

The AI will always be my favorite thing in melee. Fun fact if you stand close to the spinning tiles on Yoshi island (SMW). Bowser will always bowser suicide bomb Everytime or N-air self-destruct.

I would do a challenge of me vs 3 lvl 9 Luigi’s with 99 stocks on the Mario bros 2 map I would stand on the right side of the map and after they died once they kept falling in the gap between the center and right platforms so yeah cpus are really bad in melee

The Luigi CPU will only use side b to recover. I think they did this because the AI probably would try to use up b off the cut and just die then.

This is what happens when you have to develop the entire game in 13 months. To the dev team's credit, it was good enough to keep me entertained as a kid and make unlocking characters at least mildly interesting, and let's be honest: nobody plays Smash for the single-player anyway. Sometimes you have to make compromises on game development, and I'm this case, the broken AI was good enough to ship.
