Official HD Video for "Don't Answer Me" The Alan Parsons Project
`Don't Answer Me' was the first single from `Ammonia Avenue' - a 1984 studio album by The Alan Parsons Project. It features APP founder and songwriter Eric Woolfson on lead vocals and keyboards The celebrated video is presented as a story in the fictional comic book series, `The Adventures of Nick and Sugar'. The video took 23 days to film, using a 40-man animation team, and combined traditional cel animation (in the rendering of the figures), stop-motion animation (for the majority of the movements), and even claymation. The video was nominated for Most Experimental Video at the first-ever 1984 MTV Video Music Awards.

While everyone in the 80's was debating whether Thriller by Michael Jackson or Take On Me by A-ha was the best music video, this gem totally slipped under the radar. Love it. More people should talk about this.

I've been familiar with this forever, and I was barely 7-8 when this was on the radio, so I have to doubt this went unnoticed. We're talking southern Europe, Spain to be precise, on top of that, so... Of course, no match in popularity with Michael Jackson at that point, but what could compete with Thriller era Jackson?

Everything was original, for the most part--the Top Forty was filled with actual bands who wrote memorable song after memorable song, and played their own instruments. It was the dawn of the synth era, and everything sounded warm, new, and creatively produced. Even early rap was poetic and novel, although I think the DIY nature of Hip Hop is what started the decline. Then came Pro-Tools and digital recording, the Death of the Album, and the Era of Disposable Songs. I am not an MTV PR agent, but when I see clips of the early days, I go into mourning. It was a blast.

Magical music !! The mastermind of the band was ERIC WOOLFSON : songwriter and lyricist of almost every APP song (!) also a great singer .. Actually the bands name should have been imo : the Eric Woolfsons Project !😅 May he RIP... Quote from the APP website (FAQ) : " Eric Woolfson was the main songwriter and lyricist for the APP writing 95% of the music and 100% of the lyrics. He also sang lead vocal on many of the APP’s greatest hits including ‘Eye in the Sky’, ‘Time’ and ‘Don’t Answer Me’. He played keyboards on practically every APP track recorded. He was also the manager of the APP and handled all the business side. It was his decision to call it ‘The Alan Parsons Project’ - a choice he often described as both the best and worst in his career. The best because he got to enjoy the success of his work without any of the fame. The worst in that generally no one outside the music industry had a clue who he was! "

LYRICS Don't Answer Me If you believe in the power magic I can change your mind And if you need to believe in someone Turn and look behind When we were living in a dream world Clouds got in the way We gave it up in a moment of madness And threw it all away Don't answer me, don't break the silence Don't let me win Don't answer me, stay on your island Don't let me in Run away and hide from everyone Can you change the things we've said and done? If you believe in the power of magic Its all a fantasy So if you need to believe in someone Just pretend its me It ain't enough that we meet as strangers I cant set you free So will you turn your back forever on what you mean to me? Don't answer me, don't break the silence Don't let me win Don't answer me, stay on your island Don't let me in Run away and hide from everyone Can you change the things we've said and done? If you believe in the power of magic I can change your mind And if you need to belive in someone Turn and look behind When we were living in a dream world Clouds got in the way We gave it up in a moment of madness And threw it all away Don't answer me, don't break the silence Don't let me win Don't answer me, stay on your island Don't let me in Run away and hide from everyone... Can you change the things we've said and done? If you belive in the power of magic It's all a fantasy So if you need to belive in someone Just pretend it's me It ain't enough that we meet as strangers I can't set you free So will you turn your back forever On what you mean to me? Don't answer me, don't break the silence Don't let me win Don't answer me, stay on your island Don't let me in Run away and hide from everyone... Can you change the things we've said and done? Don't answer me, don't break the silence Don't let me win Don't answer me, stay on your island Don't let me in Run away and hide from everyone... Don't answer me, don't break the silence Don't let me win Don't answer me, stay on your island Don't let me in Can you change the things we've said and done? Don't answer me, don't break the silence Don't let me win Don't answer me, stay on your island Don't let me in...

I was 13, and I was in love. The deepest and purest feeling I have ever felt in my whole life. Fire in my heart, no less. That song was an important part of the soundtrack of that emotional "roller coaster". Every time I hear it, I evoke those moments, I feel goose bumps. Cheesy...? Yeah, sure, but I do not care. I feel still alive, no less.

@@alucard624 And Eric Woolfson was the main composer, although it's a team work with the producers (which he also was) and the great work of Andrew Powell who put the ideas of Eric in Symphonic form.
