I just turned 50 in this insane year of the Covid pandemic and my teenage years where filled with The Alarm! I now have a 9 year old son who has a very impressive vinyl LP collection (with about 23 albums so far) and we talk about Rock'N'Roll all the time. He is very aware that Daddee thinks that The Alarm is one of the top 10 best 80's bands ever!

My dad used to play this song for us all the time in the early 90s. I'm pretty sure this song is solely responsible for my love of songs that reach a crescendo and just deliver. This is one of the best songs to meet that level of expectation I've ever heard, regardless of the fact that it required a speech to get there. It's perfect for what it is. Goosebumps every time.

Saw these guys at Hammerjacks in Baltimore on this tour, we were up top and man we just lost our f***ing minds. They were so good. I think they broke up a few months later. Hammerjacks is long gone, you can still see the Hammerjacks logo on the side of the building but very faded... some great bands went through there. Man I'd give anything to go back to the 80s!!!!!

U2 where first on the scene and made it big in america , so they got there with guitar music before The Alarm , but id say U2 lost it for a while after unforgettable fire . The alarm where as good as U2 live for sure .

As much of a die-hard "early" U2 fan as I am, I definitely agree! If I'm not mistaken, didn't The Alarm tour with U2 as the opening act on certain parts of their Joshua Tree tour? The Alarm also did shows with another favorite post-punk band of mine-The Cult. It was obviously during the early part of the Love album-era since The Cult had already switched it into overdrive with a punk/retro 70's hard rock sound on their Electric album, which also came out in the same year (1987) as U2's Joshua Tree & The Alarm's Eye of the Hurricane albums.

to say the Alarm were a Welsh U2 is to underestimate the Alarm. They were the Alarm a band in their own right and bear favourable comparison with any other band.

I'm almost positive that this was just the beginning of a time when the music was, lost, to rap and hip hop, such a shame, but time is now, awakening again to real music, not saying that the rap artists and the hip hop groups, aren't real musicians it's just not my thing.

Why edit out Mr. Sharp's ad lib speech? Where was his line: "Music by the people, for the people, and of the people"... and the crescendo that ended with "And the people tonight, are the future Rock and Roll!" I have to give this a thumbs down. Sorry, but I cannot take this sanitized / censored version.
@johnscanlon4063 Жыл бұрын
And on top of that, this is the portion that is just quoting Woody Guthrie, and they edited out the part where he gives credit to Woody Guthrie. To hear it in this bubble, it sounds like plagiarism.
