One of the quests I remember best from the first Witcher game is the dwarf logging camp in the swamp that are slowly getting picked off by angry local elves, swamp monsters, AND a traitor in their midst. The quest is basically kill the big plant monster so they can escape, but aside from meeting their boss who pays you, there’s no indication that they do get out, and many to the contrary.
@DemitriVladMaximov4 жыл бұрын
The alien timeline is all kinds of messed up, and I will ignore covenant entirely. Now yes the xenomorph has limited telepathic abilities and can read thoughts and intentions, but doesn't understand them beyond a rudimentary level. The huge brain and brain case may seam to indicate massive intelligence, but in reality the whole thing is best understood as a input and transmission system relaying data from the individual xenomorph to their queen who supersedes the individual xenomorph's choice. The first alien had no queen and was by itself, forcing it to follow built-in genetic instincts and memories to build a pre-hive structure so that as it went through the metamorphosis into a queen, there were hosts for incubation. However, when a hive is established the queen becomes the focus of the entire structure and the more xenomorph there are the more each individual member of the hive becomes disposable. Thus a queen will happily throw dozens or even hundreds of her workers and soldiers in wave after wave to wear down the defenses of whatever is attacking the hive letting the sheer size of numbers win the day. Now that doesn't mean they are wasteful or stupid, and they do indeed learn from previous encounters (using the duct-work to get inside the Marine's perimeter in Aliens for instance), but what may be seen as stupid to us is in reality a complete lack of the concept of "self" as important to the xenomorph as they don't have a concept of their own safety or value beyond being an extension of the hive. Another thing of note is that not only are xenomorph telepathic, they also have genetic memory and will pass not only their instincts down their genetic line, but also full memories and information likely transmitted from one xenomorph back to their queen who sends it to the empresses and the mother queen back on Xenoprime. This information is then stored genetically and passed down through the hive network like a massive internet system making not only current xenomorph deadlier, but ensuring the eggs laid carry this information pre-programed to all future xenomorph. So yes it seems completely nonsensical the way they act, but makes perfect sense when you understand how completely different from humans these aliens really are.
