Looks like an extremely technologically advanced vehicle. Beautifully styled, and certain to be a big hit for Toyota. I am still old school biased and prefer a naturally aspirated V6 on midsize trucks and V8 on full-size. Curious about turbo lag on these newer vehicles as well.

I’m with you on the engine choices, regardless of how well it performs, eventually you’ll need to spend a pretty penny to replace the turbo, plus the fuel economy isn’t as advertised ever unless you drive with an egg under the gas pedal. I’d want the base 2.4 liter with the lowest power rating. Still plenty of power for a midsize truck, but “detuned” for more longevity. Turbo lag isn’t really an issue anymore with modern vehicles. I drove a Tundra with the turbo V-6 and there was virtually no turbo lag (among other vehicles), knowing Toyota this will be the same.

I’m excited for this new model especially after knowing there is still a manual. I’m not worried about the power plant having reliability issues at least after the first year of production. Toyota has given us several reliable turbocharged engines over the years and a few of them ended up being some of the most iconic engines to date. They also pretty much pioneered the way to hybrid technology so I have no doubts about that either. Plus since the engine is already turbocharged, if we want more power we can turn up the boost! No more paying $6-8k for super chargers to add a little bit of power. I take kindly to the sound of turbo 4s over V6s anyways so I don’t see this as a loss. Heck I don’t care what’s under the hood so long as there’s a manual right behind it! The styling is pretty impressive and the new interior was much needed. The only thing so far I’m not a fan of is the electric parking brake. I told myself I’d never get rid of my 6mt third gen but these things seem pretty nice. I’ll wait a year or two for the bugs to get worked out and then I’ll reconsider. That or I’ll keep the 3rd gen and grab me a GR Corolla or manual Supra! Great video guys!

I’m sure there’s a manuel way to open the tailgate. Also what you mean get out? It’s not an suv, no one is riding in the bed and if they are they just hop out. You don’t need the tailgate to hop out the bed but how many times do people actually ride in the bed unless it’s a quick short trip. You gotta be one of the most unhealthy unathletic people if you can’t hop out a bed of a truck with the tailgate closed. But I’m sure Toyota thought about that as there’s a quick easy way to pop the tailgate without the automatic power. Toyota isn’t GM with their hummer making it a complicating process with numerous instructions and steps to do everything.

I would go for top RTL-E trim like Elite in Pilot. Honda can't skimp on not giving USA spec top trim ventilated front seats now. The Canadian Spec has them with Rear Outboard heated seats. Tacoma and other competitors Ford GM have stepped up. I still don't think none have backseats as wide as Ridgeline. If redesign Ridgeline comes it will have more space to use somewhere. All competitors still can't offer The in-bed trunk. The interior cabin space either with flat floor storage with seats up or down. But looking forward to seeing Tacoma and other offerings on Street. Yes they got to come out on pavement.

@@2wheeled76 You're right, a lot of commercial trucks use drum brakes. But they're almost always air brakes, not hydraulic like on light duty trucks. Air, as we know, cannot boil like brake fluid so the only way that brake fade can be introduced is through extremely excessive use of the trucks brakes and heating up the brake shoes. But even then, commercial trucks also utilize very efficient engine braking to slow down in conjunction with the brakes. Engine braking is less effective in smaller trucks, especially those with less cylinders and overall lower compression so the vehicles depend much more on the wheel brakes.

Great video, as usual guys. Even stopped a Jeep guy. That said, no matter what you drive, you have to admit, that IS beautiful truck. Especially when you get away from the city trucks. And I don't care what any one says ... the hood scoop looks GREAT! I don't care that it's not functional. Sometimes it just about "Cool Factor"... and that adds alot of cool factor. But the white ... which is my Least favourite colour normally ... is the best colour so far for the Tacoma. It just really shows of the great new design... the beautiful lines of the truck. It does look tough

lol, those were the exact words in my head when I first saw that air dam!!! Looks like something out of a 1980’s JC Whitney catalogue on there too…

Curious how the back seats are as far as space & comfort compared to last gen

Don't get that air ride seat, it looks like it would render the back seats unusable for anyone over 12 years of age.

I have a 2020 Tacoma Off-Road with the TRD Suspension Kit, so I am not in the market for this. BUT, they have made all the right moves - better suspension, better ARB parts. I assume the price will balloon out a lot, but hey, you can't always get everything
