You having tested this printer for months makes me feel much better about it. Previously they’ve released printers with seemingly limited testing so I’m glad they’ve changed. Qidi seems to learn quickly and improve their products a lot

Out of any company I've worked with they are easily the top 2, they're organized and just pleasant to work with. They send me the products well in advance to make sure that I have the time to do a proper review. I think testing a machine over 2+ months is the way to go. If anything were to go wrong, it'd likely happen, but I'm confident that even if something else happened down the line, I have confidence with QIDI that they'd do the right thing. They're working hard to build a good reputation and to get to be one of the top companies for printers, and I think they're very close. I'll be using this printer for some follow up videos too, if anyone has any questions or materials they'd like tested, I can certainly add those.

Up to this point, opinions seem to be that Bambu units "just work" more reliably than many others with less customization. I appreciate your point about lack of calibration on the Qidi. I think they looked at what all the real quality testers have found in that a stiff printer with a solid motion system is necessary for high quality high speed printing. Seems they must have a decent extruder design as well. Granted we would need to see some prints without fiber filaments up close to really scrutinize, but it's looking good! For real? That sounds extremely enticing. I have almost convinced my boss to buy an FDM 3D printer, but since we are a chemistry lab, most materials would have to be reasonably resistant towards organic solvents and such. Our department wants us to buy some equipment (basically fancy plastic funnels that need to be resistant to chemical waste) that would cost a few thousand euros in total, but I'm trying to argue that it would be cheaper to buy a printer and make them ourselves. Have been trying to find a printer that can do high performance materials (PPS, PVDF, PA12, and similar), but most seem to be outside of our price range (roughly 1k EUR). If the Qidi printers can do this, then that seems like the ideal fit for us. Then I guess it's just a question of which model we should buy. If I may ask, how many failed prints before you could do PPS without issues? And what about bed adhesion? Also, with nylon (e.g. PA12), any issues with bed adhesion or warping (if you have tried)? Any other things to keep in mind?
@delsydsoftwareАй бұрын
@@adrianpip2000 I've used the X-Max3 for Polymaker PPS-CF, Qidi PA12-CF, some PC blends, and CPE-HT (which is like PC, but is dishwasher safe and is resistant to some chemicals). I was able to use the stock profiles for the PA12 and PC. The CPE-HT printed with the stock PC profile with no issue. For the Polymaker PPS-CF, I took the stock PLA profile and adjusted the extruder temp to 325c, and the heated bed temp to 90C, with no heated chamber. This was based on Polymaker's recommendations on their Fiberon PPS-CF10 page. I was getting successful prints immediately. They even had the PPS metallic ringing sound, so the crystalline structure was somewhat aligned without annealing. I don't have a lab oven, so I couldn't dry the filament at 100C for 10 hours. However, I dried it at 70C for about 24 hours and had no issues with moisture. For adhesion, i use Vision Miner NanoPolymer adhesive on the stock textured PEI for everything. It works amazingly well for every material I mentioned above.

It's just people who print nick-nacks all day... They only need PLA in every color under the sun. With that prediction in mind, I'm annoyed that future, more capable and precise, printers aren't going to be dropping in price to performance anymore. Most of what I do is only 1 color, on occasion it'd be nice to add some text on that first layer here and there, but it's not super critical. I think for printing parts to sell, the color is a good think to have though. It's a solid contender and I think it should be somewhere close to the top they went way beyond the competition on the parts for this machine, it's beastly how massive everything is inside, very impressive work by QIDI, how they're able to do all of this and keep the costs down this low, I don't know.

Appreciate the video. Well done. I hope QIDI makes the turn. You can see the effort they are putting in some of the details to be a great printer. Its impressive too that all of the reviews online frequently note their fantastic customer service. But you have to ask yourself, why are there so many new owners experiencing issues to need support. They have a track record of issues at launch and based on the exclusion of reviews from other reviewers who previously had issues, it doesn't inspire confidence. I found just a few reviews so far and this is the one with the least issues. Its a bummer, because that's a solvable problem and to see it repeated release after release is counter to the engineering and heavy duty parts. They just need to test more and better, and have a clean transparent launch.
@stew675Ай бұрын
It is a mistake to assume that the only reason people turn to support is when something goes wrong mechanically. People contact customer support all the time even for fairly minor things. For example, a print not sticking to the build plate, issues caused by retraction settings, issues caused by printing some filament with too low or too high of a filament temperature. Basically, anything you can think of that you'd imagine someone new to the hobby might ask any number of online community forums, or can be looked up in an FAQ, then customers will ask these questions get asked of support as well. When KZbinrs mention good customer support, they mean that the company typically responds within 24 hours to such things, instead of 2-3 weeks.
@VacFinkАй бұрын
@@stew675 I agree on that point, but if you look at point of purchase reviews like amazon, the details of the customer service is very commonly because the machine isn't working. My point is they can be a formidable competitor if they can stop launching unrefined products and improve their quality control.

I'm so glad I didn't pull the trigger on the X-Max 3 a few weeks ago! Could you answer a couple of questions, please? 1. Is it possible to mirror the door hinges? 2. Have they sorted the filament run-out sensor so it doesn't reset to "off" whenever the printer is power cycled? 3. Would you send the printer to me if I pay the postage? 😜 This does appear to be the printer I've been looking for but I may give it a couple of months of the public playing guinea pigs before I buy one; the price may drop a little by then, too.

Hi. Thanks for this review. I think that this printer is superb. Recently, Prusa released the feature of extreme 75° overhangs. Curious to know how this machine compares. Also, will a similar, new, Qidi printer with larger print dimensions be released soon as I need to print with larger dimensions (400 x 400 x400 mm) would be perfect for me?
@TheConradiiiАй бұрын
Qidi makes a dual head printer.....or used to make one because I own it. Its a beast. It worked great for many prints. I once ran it for a week straight and it just kept printing. I forgot the name (maybe 600 or 6000). Anyway, obviously they can do it and maybe they will do it with this line of printers. Although i think 2 headed printers are in the past with AMS type of addons. good video

Originally before I got the Q1, I wasn't sold, I had heard good things about their custom service, but the reviews were only okay, nothing spectacular. I've been using the Q1 for quite a while now and it's a great machine, I'm not sure you can beat the price for what you get and the machine with the heater (with proper HT cover) still performs. I actually love it so much that I wanted my brother to give it a try to see what he thinks about it. He has the K1 right now, and there are some issues with extrusion and a wobbly frame. So the Q1 changed my mind about QIDI and now, testing the PLUS 4 , I've even happier with the direction they're going. There isn't a lot of crazy innovation, small incremental changes to end up with overall a superior product that still doesn't break the bank.
@andreasherzberger812Ай бұрын
I really like the new design. I recently had the X-Max 3 on my shortlist as a new printer, although I didn't particularly like its design. The Q1 Pro didn't really impress me, a bit too small and some details not really thought through. It seems that Qidi has done everything right with the new Plus4, and the price is really very good. If I hadn't gotten a Creality K2 Combo in the 40% promotion , the Qidi Plus4 would be a real option for me. I don't really need multi-color / multi-material, but it is nice to have , and Qidi will probably have one available soon.

How would you say it compares to the P1S, which is widely considered to be one of the best bang for buck printers out there. I am not sure about regional pricing but in germany I can buy the Bambulab P1S for 599€ or 849€ depending on whether the AMS is included or not. I would assume that is pretty price competitive with the 799$ of the Qidi Of course the Qidi has more features than the P1S for 200$ more. For only 50$ on top you could get a full P1S combo with AMS. I own neither of them but i am currently looking at buying a P1S with AMS for reliability reasons (kinda tired of the ender 3 V2s problems) But i am interested to learn how this new release holds up to that combo at a fairly competitive price. Additional question: i know Bambulab is known for their durability and reliability. I have seen very good reviews of qidi products, how do they hold up over a longer time? I need a main printer that is reliable. I can still tinker enough on my Ender 3.
@NeedItMakeItАй бұрын
I guess it depends on what you're printing, if you're okay with lower temp materials like PLA and PETG, some ABS, the P1S is pretty good. Also if you want the AMS apparently they have something planned for the 1st quarter of 2025. Aside from that, this printer is far more capable than a P1S, not knocking the P1S, they're excellent machines too. IMO I'd sell the P1S while it still has a good resale value and move on up, but I can't speak for anyone I don't know your financials and what it is that you like to print. I can say that this machine is built like a tank, it allows us to make parts that wouldn't be possible on other machines. I think long-term it would be a good idea to vent outside too if we're printing the really high temp materials.
@raphaelboll6096Ай бұрын
@@NeedItMakeIt Thank you so much for the detailed reply.On my Ender 3 I am printing mostly PLA but would love to expand on ABS, ASA... as well. I will now definetely reconsider and might go with the Qidi. It is definetely a helpful piece of information that you've been using it for a few months without issues as it already gives some idea as to what we can expect reliability wise. And that is a high priority for me at the moment. I dont shy away from fixing things myself but by now it has happened more often than i'd like that my ender 3V2 has had a major issue right before an important project deadline. I will definetely wait until it is available to purchase in Germany and then we will see if i go Bambu or Qidi.

@kristian6087Ай бұрын
It seems to have a active coal filter like the bentobox pre installed mentioned at: 5:54
@NeedItMakeItАй бұрын
I think since we're entering a realm of high-temp materials it would be wise to find a way to vent outside, there is room inside for a bento box for sure, that'd be good, there is a carbon filter right now and the exhaust is active during the print so it will help, but long-term for any printer we should be trying to get that air away so we can avoid any unknown long-term impacts. I'm happy to make a video about this, I'm also thinking that the system would be similar to what you'd see for dust collection, we'd have a bar running along the wall with flexible connections, we can create a magnetic adapter plate to easily connect and remove the coupler and then we just need a fan to draw air out slowly to create a negative pressure inside the cabin. Of course if you have one printer it's much easier, is drilling a hole in the wall an option? I'm thinking the ceiling is another way, essentially an exhaust fan into the vented attic space.
@realgooseАй бұрын
@@NeedItMakeIt the bento box also contains a small hepa filter. Cheap to replace, about $1.50 per filter. A full dust collection/filter would be a great video series. Testing air quality as you go. My understanding was that if you are printing ABS, filtration or venting outside is highly recommended. Now I have seen videos showing particles in the air from even PLA or PETG. Love to see your thorough analysis on this topic

@NeedItMakeItАй бұрын
I've been doing some research and there are a few approaches that would work, the trick is to come up with something that works for everyone anywhere, and that's not so easy. I'd imaging that there are people who cannot drill a hole in their walls and who may not have access to a window that opens either. Fresh air from outside is always best, using the HRV approach, and there are some smaller units which are pretty low profile, but again, those require drilling, so more thought is needed on this subject!

12:20 this is huge tbh. Not having to run tests every time you buy a roll of filament is massive. With the amount of spools we go through it'd be a huge waste of time. Thing is... I'm really curious about this printer. If this ever got a multi color system added to it, i'd seriously think about getting one. I'd want ot be sure it can print as high of a quality as the bambu's do for me but one thing i'm still curious about is its cooling. I'd want an entire video dedicated to overhangs for this printer because it seems like it has better overhangs which is absolutely massive. That being said, seeing a cool plate on this like the one i'm running on my bambus now where i'm running bed temps at 30-40 for pla allows for better overhangs, i'd imagine they'd be flawless on this.

Same price and volume as K1 Max but nice LIDAR or load sensors. Nice platform, belts, heat management, and AMS option though. Need a comparison of K1 max and Plus 4
@NeedItMakeItАй бұрын
I have a K1 max, sadly, I don't recommend it anymore, there are too many issues related to extrusion with the machine, bed level is also an issue, but I've made several videos to correct those. The "Lidar" on the Max does not work correctly and I ended up removing it after too many failed attempts. The machine looks nice, but the frame is not rigid enough and the extruder is unsupported on one side of the extruder gears, which means that they flex too much. I think that it was a pretty good machine when it was released, but now there are better options out. At this moment, I would recommend the Q1 for someone looking for a printer at a good price that still performs really well, I'd recommend the PLUS4 for anyone that wants to print bigger and heavy duty parts and I'd recommend the X1C/P1S for anyone who is desperate for color printing. I like the ability to print in color, but I rarely use it, the AMS is nice for storage though.

Oh, that's a tough one, the Q1 is still a good printer, do you have any others printers you can sell instead. If you don't and you only want one printer, I'd move up to this one because it will open up some more options for you, I would expect that there will be some kind of AMS or something that at least makes this printer compatible with one because of the nozzle wiping/pooping they've integrated. I'm expecting great things from QIDI in the future, I think they need to find a way to get their own version of MakerWorld going too so they have an ecosystem to be able to compete fully with Bambu. The price is right, the company is good to their customers, the quality is good, they're most of the way there to be one of the top companies IMO. What do you think?
