The ALLEGED Affair Of Anne Boleyn and Sir Thomas Wyatt
There is a great deal that we do not know today about Anne Boleyn. She’s considered one of the most important women of the Tudor period, and her marriage to Henry VIII saw a period of change in England. To force through a marriage to Anne, Henry even split from the Pope and Rome, turning his back on the Catholic Church and declaring himself the Supreme Head of the Church of England. But Anne’s downfall was quick and sharp and within a few years of marrying the most powerful man in England, she was facing his wrath inside the Walls of the Tower of London. Anne had been sentenced to death for adultery, treason and incest and for this was to be executed. Following her bloody death, Henry VIII went to great lengths to organise her erasing from history, and he confiscated paintings of Anne and also even chipped her initials and insignia away from the ceilings of his royal palaces. But one mystery which surrounds Anne Boleyn and her fidelity is her alleged relationship she had with Sir Thomas Wyatt, a 16th century poet, politician and ambassador. But what is the story behind this?

They never had an affair. Their families were neighbours and Thomas was a friend of Annes and he may have admired her and desired her, but he was married, albeit unhappily and Anne kept him and all her many admirers at court at a distance, as she hoped to make a good marriage as was expected of her, and it would never happen if she gained a reputation and was gossiped about. And all her admirers dropped out once they realized the king was after her. They wouldn't dare compete with him. We get hints from Wyatts poems that he "cometh behind" the other suitors and really had no chance. "Noli Me Tangere, for Ceasars I am.....".

I don't think they had an affair, but he may have still loved her from a far, but I can't see Anne taking a risk of an affair. She held the king at bay for years, refusing to sleep with him until they were married. Those are not the actions of someone who sleeps around, but then Cromwell and Henry knew that. Poor Anne was in over her head and couldn't stop what was already in motion.

There’s no evidence that Anne had an affair. There IS evidence however, that Henry had affairs (the hypocrite).

A little off topic but when 5he narrator mentioned the part about Henry removing Anne's initials and insignia from the ceilings etc, I just imagine Henry running around like an angsty, weeping teenage girl, running through her room and tearing down pics/momentos of she and the boy who just broke her heart while singing emo breakup songs lol

He's definitely more handsome than Henry. If Anne would have married him, she wouldn't have been executed. Poor Anne, so many suitors and she choose the worst one. May her soul rest in peace.

The thing is, she really didn't choose him. He wore her down, was relentless, she was forbidden to continue the relationship with the man she was planning to marry and was already in love with. The cardinal took care of it under Henry's orders. He made sure that there was no competition. Anne ran from him for 6 years or so. She finally gave in because he convinced her of his love for her. Henry was an expert at the game.

Ironic, isn't it, that out of all the men associated with Anne Boleyn, Sir Thomas Wyatt, who really may have had an affair with the Queen, was NOT executed ❓ BTW, I don't believe there was an affair; just unrequited love on Wyatt's part.

The portrait of the man in profile is Thomas Wyatt junior, son of the Thomas Wyatt of the alleged affair with Anne and the depiction of 'Wyatt' on the medal is clearly named as Carolus Hutton 1821? Can this be Wyatt? Looks nothing like the Holbein drawing of the actual Thomas Wyatt.

Lending some validity to the affair- Elizabeth I was supposedly King Henry's child with Anne. Their daughter was for the King sort of an exception among long run of stillbirths and miscarriages with several different women (3 for 20~). Curiously, she was conceived in the exact period in which this affair with Wyatt is thought to have occurred, for which he was imprisoned. Well after Anne's death, the Wyatt family appeared to be extremely devoted to Elizabeth I. George Wyatt (Elizabeth's biographer) & Sir Henry Lee (her Champion) were both descendant and/or kin of Sir Thomas Wyatt. Elizabeth's reign also reestablished much of what Thomas the younger rebelled against the crown (and was executed) for, decades earlier. Coincidences perhaps, but there is the possibility that the Virgin Queen was actually Wyatt's daughter.

I love the myth and it's a beautiful story. Unfortunately, it was the ill-fated Arthur, the firstborn that was born 8 months after the marriage of Elizabeth of York and Henry VII. Henry the 8th was the second son.

@@lauratrask6861 hi there. See my response above. Henry the 8th had an older brother named Arthur. He was the son of Elizabeth of York and Henry VII that was born 8 months later after their marriage. Henry the 8th was the second son and was not destined to the throne until his brother Arthur died.

There is no evidence for an affair with Wyatt before or after her marriage to Henry. You show such compassion to KoA and Mary Stuart but your Anne videos are all about supposed infidelities for which no proof exists? What about the abuse Anne suffered while he stalked, harassed and hounded her? Or at the Tower? Or when he had her murdered? Like???

It is clear that Anne had an ongoing affair with Wyatt. Once she married Henry she thought she was free to do as she pleased but she underestimated Henry's resolve.
