Minor features that are not mentioned for the few ones interested in : - the pad has no batteries so you can not turn on the switch from sleep mode with the home button. Only the power button on the top of switch will work to turn it on. - now concerning the mappable buttons: you can only map a button that is on the same pad. In other words, on the left pad you can only assign the left shoulders, d-pad, and L3. This means you can’t assign the A button or a R shoulder button to the left pad mappable button for example.

I don't care about amiibo support and HD rumble has honestly been more annoying than actually interesting, I think the DualSense does a better job at highlighting how haptics can enhance an experience so those are not really a problem for me. But it would be nice if it supported motion controls for things like Mario Kart or Switch Sports which I've been playing a lot of. Honestly the first split pad gets traded in pretty often at GameStop where I work and I've had a chance to put my hands on it, it feels pretty dang cheap and pretty bulky. But this one does look nicer, more minimalistic so I could see myself liking it as long as it doesn't feel too cheaply made like the other one does.

Has anyone tried this compared to the skull and co grips? I am going to buy either the skull and co or this. I am not fussed about the rumble or amiibo but i do quite like using motion control in some games.
@arabidmeerkat247 Жыл бұрын
TLDR: I have the Skull & Co NeoGrip and the Hori Split Pad Compact. I prefer using the Hori Split Pad Compact, but they are both unique products that offer different things. With the Skull and Co NeoGrip (they also sell the very different GripCase) you can use your own Joy Con with all of the features (such as motion controls and NFC). You have 3 different grip sizes which are easily interchangeable (I only use the trigger grips). They cost almost half the price of the Hori Split Pad. They are very lightweight and you can keep your shell on your Switch and transport it in some cases (you will need to remove the grips). You can also buy different colour grips to match your Joy Con. However, if you try to dock a normal Switch with the NeoGrip shell attached, it does slightly flex the dock (not sure if this applies to the GripCase). The plastic grips feel cheaply made and have no rubber for extra grip. The NeoGrip shell is very tight, with some people online saying that after removing the Switch from the shell a few times, it had left scuff marks on the edges of their Joy Con (more so 3rd party Joy Con). Also, I have found that one of my grips will no longer click into place after about 4 months of use. The Hori Split Pad feels good to use in your hands. The triggers are very well placed and are slightly larger. The buttons are all slightly larger and raised, making it easier to press them. The sticks are taller and don't seem to slip as easily as Joy Con sticks. There is a turbo feature and a mappable button for each side. They dock easily since they are a Joy Con repacement. However, since no Joy Con are attached to your Switch, you lose key features for some games (motion controls). They cost me nearly double what the NeoGrip did. You can't use the Split Pad wirelessly unless you buy an extra attachment. You can't change the grip size to suit your hands. They have no internal battery inside so will require your Switch's battery to run. They also can be difficult to transport due to their size. Both have their merits and are very different products, but in my opinion, I prefer what Hori has to offer.

Omission of motion controls is weak, although I turn it off every chance I get. I don't want it, but we kinda need it. My top complaint about Split Pads was the assignable rear button can only mimic buttons on it's own side. I use rear buttons in Breath of the Wild for shield menu and sword menu, which are d-pad left and right. Turns out the right pad button cannot be mapped to d-pad commands. I suppose there's no physical way the Pads can communicate with each other, and since none of those mapping functions even talk to the system, there's no other way. oh well. The ergonomic value of these things is still off the charts, just wait for sale prices.

I honestly like them, but I’ve done had third-party grips from Amazon that feel a lot better and work a lot better and have the same amount of features and it makes the switch look cooler and the original split pads. They’re super bulky like what he said, but then they’re not even rounded on the back to where they feel like a actual controller so it’s just bulky and flat. Are you still able to play let's go with these joycons in handheld mode?
@Slithering-Pyro2 жыл бұрын
I just busted my 2nd pair of Split Pad Pro's after about a year of use. Like my other pair, the rubber grips on the control sticks wore off after only a few months of use, the sticks now have dead zones in which no input is registered, and the A ,B, Y & X buttons get stuck if I push them too hard. For some context, I play Smash Bros a lot. I have over 1500 hours in the game, and at least half of those hours are in handheld mode, exclusively with Hori Pads as I REFUSE to play that game with Joy-Cons. Do with that information what you will, but I'll say this. These controllers are EXCELENT for casual play, but they don't last long if you're a gamer who plays fast-paced, button mashy games where being hard on your controller is to be expected. If you're a gamer who plays really input heavy games that have you being harder on your controller than other games, skip the Split Pads.

Nintendo is doing something real sneaky with their use of accelerometer. They have us believe their accelerometer is built into the control but to my findings this is not true. You can test this with Breath of the Wild. Go to settings and then enable VR. When you enable VR the motion controls suddenly work. You can move the Switch around and you can see everything move with you. I'm not sure why but I i think Nintendo is disabling it on controllers.
