Chicagoland has the best home construction in the country. Strict building codes, and very skilled labor in the area. Lived in NYC, Houston, and SF. For the money, no one builds a better single family home than Chicagoans

The North Shore is not a suburb, it is an area. Kenilworth, Winnetka, Glencoe, Wilmette are suburbs in the North Shore area along with a few others. I use to live there and moved out to Barrington to have some land around my home.

How effective is the padding on the walls in the basketball room? I live in a small apartment and I'm plagued by sounds from my neighbors and I basically can't even have a regular conversation without them being able to listen to it. Is it a viable option in such a case? And is there anything below the grey padding we see?

They range in different types and qualities. Super effective if done right! Although can be pricey. Decent quality is $1,000-2,500 to insulate a room. Although can be 10X that amount for high tech comprehensive soundproofing.
