Features tips that every woodworker needs to know to become a better
craftsperson. Tool innovations like the track saw are game changers for woodworkers and makers alike. Adjustable

"Hey, wait a minute" I know you; I remember you now, I thought you looked and sounded very familiar. I should've known by the title, The American Woodshop. I used to watch your show about the same time I was watching Norn from The New Yanky Workshop, over 20 years ago. Wow, where has the time gone, I used to watch your show whenever I could catch it on PBS. The American Woodshop program was never consistent, one week it's on, the next week its off and then at times your show was completely preempted by another show. But it was always a good day for me, after watching The New Yanky Workshop and I would stumble upon your show, whenever I could catch it on. I remember, you would use vintage hand tools and vintage machinery with your woodworking skills. It's refreshing to see you using the modern tools like, the track saws and festool power miter saws. It's really good to see that you're still at it, great job.

This is a great video. We enjoy watching the show on TV and seeing all the great projects. My wife and I really like this bookshelf and the video does a great job of showing how to build it. Are there plans we can get for this and if so, how do we get them.

Love the bookcase. What are the dimensions? Are there any plans available?

What discourages me about wood working, is the purchase of all those EXPENSIVE TOOLS and not even knowing if I will like wood working or not. Cheers from Canada.

Woodworkers have a habit of collecting more and more expensive tools, but they're not needed. You can pick up used tools through facebook marketplace, or similar classified listings. Don't be discouraged.

There has also been a new type of business that has taken off, maker spaces - workshops that you can go to, learn how to use the tools they have, and then you can use them to build your projects. These places often have a membership fee and charge for their classes. However, you don't need all of that.

Nice video. Curious why you chose not to glue the carcass together? Thanks.

Hi. Maybe you can tell me: If a bookcase's shelves are 12 inches in width, and the shelves are built out of 3/4 inch solid maple and are reinforced with a 1 and 3/4 inch lip, how long can the shelf be and still hold a lot of books without sagging under the weight?

You gave that glue joint a lot more credit than it deserves. End grain glued to face grain is better than nothing and that is all that it is better than. Only the screws are saving that.
