Although I've talked recently about how I'm not the biggest fan of the direction that AmEx is heading as a card provider - this specialty Delta card is loaded with some serious value for the right person. It's a solid card for a Delta loyalist like me. I recently upgraded to the Delta Reserve card though to take advantage of increased possibility of upgrades to first class or Delta One for my travels the rest of the year plus other attributes.

I go to Latin America often and live in a Delta Hub City. The card works really really well as the Delta Stays can get you 2-3 nights in moderate hotel in most Latin American Countries. You add in Global Entry, Rideshare credit, and the Companion Pass, the high initial offering of miles, and it really is quite worth it. Like you mention though, no lounge access is no bueno.

I appreciate this video. My airport is a Delta hub, and their marketing convinced me to upgrade my card...just before the price went up. There's enough negativity in the KZbin space that I needed the reassurance! I'm planning to use my first companion ticket to take my husband to Oahu!

BING0! I got it originally to travel to Maui but I tested it by going to Miami first for 3 days and the Uber credits along with my Uber One worked well. I am using it to go to Vegas in a month and I am using it next at National Harbor and I used points.

Does the companion ticket cover domestic flights that include a layover each way? I often fly out of a small regional airport on a Delta affiliated airline (Skywest) and switch planes at MSP then go onto my final destination.

Yes, the layovers don't make a difference. You're getting a round trip ticket for one itinerary regardless of the stops or lack of stops in-between.

Does the companion pass covers flights to Mexico ? Technically Mexico isn’t Central America and it isn’t domestic either.

I'm signing up for the Delta Gold before the Platinum. Amazing that you're from Kansas City, I just moved out of there but will be traveling back and forth. What airline cards do you value most for traveling through MCI besides the Delta card?

Hey fellow MCI flyer! 👊🏼 I love the move to get the Gold Card first then apply for the Platinum card later on to lock in both of those sign up bonuses. Flying out of MCI I feel that I use every airline almost equally. Its probably Delta and Southwest #1 and #2, but when I fly west I'm usually on United going through Denver so it's been hard to lock in on just one airline because I am prioritizing price over loyalty to one airline. All that is to say... I am using general travel cards so I have the flexibility to use any airline. I'm considering getting the AmEx Platinum for the SUB and access to the new Delta lounge in MCI!

We fly with seven people. Just one flight without even using the companion certificate pays for this card. In fact, I also have the regular platinum, gold and BCP. This card by itself covers all four annual fees.

If I were to get a lower tier Delta Amex (blue,gold), would I still get offers for the higher tier like platinum and reserve in the future?

Yes. With American Express, you can always go “up the ladder”, but you can’t go down and get the offers.

Question. Is the free checked bag only if you use the card or is it tied to the sky miles account associated with the card?? For example, if a player 2 books a flight without player 1 using player 1's platinum, will player 2 get free checked bag??

From what I've seen, for the bag fee to be waived, the reservation has to include the cardmember's SkyMiles account number on it. Sounds like they've set it up so the cardholder has to be part of the booking. Great question.

I don’t believe anywhere will allow you to pay rent using credit.

@@MegaLight18 ugh...you absolutely can you might have to pay an extra fee though. Just don't know if this card will let you do it thats an easy 1,000$ a month to earn miles.

Yes you would. Most places will charge you a transaction fee for paying your rent with a credit card, which is usually more expensive than the value you get by getting the miles on the purchase.

Well, I personally like flying Delta better than other airlines and when I came across a card that takes 15% off all flights, offers free checked bags, and a free round trip certificate annually, all for a positive effective annual fee? What works for some people doesn’t always work for others. This is especially true for credit cards. This video is just an introduction of the benefits of Delta Amex Platinum card, and how it suits OP’s needs. I’m a Delta FF and personally own this card as well. I like the perks. But if it doesn’t suit your needs, that’s totally normal and okay.
