Mapattack Well, yes, of course that is true.. One could also say that of other areas of north America that were colonized by Europeans like Germans and Scandinavians.. Wisconsin is a place that had many Scandinavian, Dutch and possibly even some German settlers, but they speak English today. Language is largely memetic, English was taken up because it was the most common language meme surrounding them, and was a medium by which they could all communicate.. The only place that has largely resisted this is obviously French Canada. And English is still spoken there too. Obviously it wasn't just that, it was also partly the political and military power of the British. And subsequently the American "patriots" in the East.

The dutch in the 17th century was the main english rival. France was a military power but not a naval power then. After defeats against England and France, the Netherlands became a second rank power. Then, during the 18th and 19th centuries, the main opponent of Britain was France, which became a colonial and naval power able to rivalize with the Royal Navy

Anyway you could do The Nine Years War? It was the war before The War of the Spanish Succession, and kind of led up to it. It was also mainly fought in North America and Europe (Plus Britain), though some fighting took place in Asia and in The Caribbeans. Seeing that no one has done a video on it yet, and it being a decently more major war. I don't see why not to.

You should look at the amounts of Dutch soldiers compared to English ones throughout the whole of William's reign you'll find that there were alot more Dutch than English in England ( 21000 Dutch compared to 14000 English, 6000 of which were in Ireland)

on land the Dutch were awful but on the sea the Netherlands was a very strong enemy especially when their admiral was Michiel de Ruyter. he was one of the greatest admirals of all time because of his great tactics on the battlefield. and because of him Marines were introduced to the world cause his marines intruded the English navalbase in london that was heavily guarded and succeeded to burn a lot of english ship and stol the english capital ship. and the victory was for the Netherlands in the Second war because the morale of the english was so bad that war was in victory for the netherlands the

@@Dokterfreek This is were you are wrong. In the 80 Years war the Dutch possessed one of the most modern and largest armies of Europe. Maurice even started a military revolution. The same is true for the later French wars. In the Nine' Years War and War of the Spanish Succession the Dutch army was the second largest in Europe, only after France. Dutch soldiers were very disciplined as for example the Battle of Ekeren proves and the Dutch were masters of the siege. Read up on Coehoorn for example. The Dutch didn't have the manpower but made use of a lot of mercenaries

I think the Brits lost less but we Dutch people built them faster, not just by windmills for sawing but the type of tree needed was hard to find in the UK. Could be that i'm wrong on all points though, it's something you think you have heard or read years ago.
