My favorite aspect about mob is not the f*ck the psychic powers. Is that they are part of Mob. Your gifts are part of you,they don't make it better then you,but it doesn't make you having a gift non existance. There is not a reason to brag and act superior,but at same time there is no reason to also not enjoy yourself. A line between both of then exist. Most of Mob villans fall in the category of abusing the powers,interesting enough...the last villan. Mob himself,was the only one that fell in the opposite. So in the end even he allows to have fun with the gift he has.
@marocat47496 ай бұрын
Yeah , its more , probably due psychic powers getting power with stress, so that people, are insecure people acting out really, which most villain fell into, forget valuing themselves as person instead acting out. The last, yeah is the danger of supressing a side of you.

I remember from somewhere that the idea of mob is actually a criticism of the shounen stereotype with characters only becoming special after they get their special powers. So mob is this kid already on the peak of super powers but still in a journey of finding what makes himself special.
@legendarycryptid26296 ай бұрын
Reigen is one of my favorites. Man is a con man's con man. Man will use his faux psycho powers to tale care of the most mundane problems most of the times solely because most of the things that _aren't_ spirit-involved really are things that can easily be taken care of with massages and such. Even then, for all that Shigeo gets strung along, he _does_ care for him. My favorite moments from him are from the first Claw arc where he points out that there's no problem in running away from something that he's not a match for, and even _breaks Muraki and Yusuke's delusions_ like a true boss. Man even pushed Shigeo to _1000%_ in Gratitude. The part where he confesses to Mob to try to save him still gets me as it shows how far he's grown in the series.
@marocat47496 ай бұрын
And best is he is great in anyoning bet having psychic powers. Like he uses all kinds of skills that frankly would make him amazing in his own right, but he is a that. He himself kinda has a self impose imposer complex?! And he is a fraud but actually is a honest to god best life coach and role model. He is so human. And contradictory, yet is the best, but also a hypocrit, but helps earnestly, as fraud?! He is the best. He is the conman that will trick you to truely believe in yourself.

One really knows how to write OP characters who are just so human and relatable
@millo72956 ай бұрын
It's because One knows how to write a character that knows that if they're so strong then there's no point in using that power for whatever you want, and that if you're this strong, then there's someone stronger, or more ambitious, or even more tenacious than you What you have only matters to you And that's enough
@rga16056 ай бұрын
Anotehr thing great about Mob Psycho is how their gifts aren't also used for self-indulgence - one of the moments I remember most is when Mob realizes he's enjoying using his powers a bit too much, he steps and says "what am I doing?" In internet cultures that favor self-indulgence so much, this message is important
@millo72956 ай бұрын
His guilt was a little unfounded but the message of his abuse to his strength was still clear He lost composure, he got too confident and became complacent, something that would've made him think that he was better because he beat the apparently "strongest" person

Best gym bros in manga/anime :D One thinkg i love about reigen how he is a funny fraud but good person that feels responsible, and actually is good at anything butr the thing he pretends. And genuinly loves to help people with all but psychic powers to feel better. And the finale, wo, emotional. when he really opens fully up :(. And shows/manga how accepting the show wants to make of flaws that , yeah people have, but you can still be a decent person and deserve love. , for being a person, that exists.

The thing about subverting expectations is that most people never actually follow through with the idea. Sure, they make you expect one thing and deliver another, but WHY they deliver the other is a huge part of the reason that they work. In Mob's case, it's all in service of the whole theme, which in itself is a very strong and self-actualizing one.

the best part of the series imho, is that it shows being "OP" in a new light. its not a hero destined to save the world, nor is it some super human living life on easy mode, his powers are a detriment to his existence. by having these powers, he is suffering and losing out on things. not many shows show the "op protagonist that can do anything easily" in a negative light, its such a unique concept, but also a concept that just...makes sense. like yeah, it makes sense that emotional based powers would be extremely risky if they are too strong especially for a kid that has a hard time supressing their emotions, and a trauma coming from that? makes total sense, and is an actual great way to keep him from being TOO boring and soft.

Mob Psycho 100 definitely has to be one of my favorite anime to come from the 2010s. And it’s not just because Studio Bones absolutely hit it out of the park in terms of animation, which they certainly did, but due to how grounded and relatable it feels despite dealing with psychic powers and spirits. Being that Mob is just an average guy who happens to have psychic powers, and the main theme that nobody is special, but can still improve and become whoever they want as long as they set their mind to it is a truly insightful and important message to take away. The only possible downside is that they replaced Mob’s English VA Kyle McCarley (9S from Nier Automata) in the final season for some pretty BS reasons, and the new VA just doesn’t sound anywhere as good. But that’s just one small nitpick from a genuinely great show, and between this and One Punch Man when it comes to ONE’s anime adaptations, this one definitely got the better end of the stick.

My fav moment of this series has to be the season 1 finale. Mob's refusing to break the rules his master instilled in him, so instead lends his powers to Reigen. Reigen doesn't know this, so just unintentionally disrespects all of the present Claw members by not only defeating them physically, but also verbally pointing out how stupid and childish their beliefs and actions are. It's just hilarious seeing this fearsome group of psychics get annihilated two-fold.

On one hand you have Mob with OP super psychic powers, on the other hand you have Reigen with OP super social powers! 19:00 The humour in that scene goes one step further as it exemplifies everything wrong with the antagonists as their beliefs of being so much above everyone else gives them those blind spots that end up putting them in those ridiculous situations in the first place. Basically the joke isn't just a random moment, it tells about the characters involved. It's a bit like Genos suddenly swearing in One Punch Man.

Loved Mob Psycho so much when it came out i read the webcomic because i was so hooked. Loved the vidoe. I have a unrelated question also. Have you ever thought about doing a video on the right and wrong way to do self-inserts? You have shows like Velma or comics like I am Not Starfire being huge ways in not doing it. Meanwhile you can get master class characters like Rohan Kishibe by making yourself but greatly exaggerated (and yes to anyone that asks. Araki has said multiple times that Rohan is where Araki wants to eventually be skill-wise and is based on himself.)
@Zetact_6 ай бұрын
In the case of Rohan it's that Araki blatantly is self-inserting as him but is depicting Rohan as a caricature of himself, rather than strictly being the usual "idealized version." He's a character foremost. Rohan is established immediately as a weirdo who licks spiders out of the belief it will improve his manga, and who is not above hating someone just because he doesn't like the vibes they put out. There are many bad self-inserts who also engage in some self-depreciation but it doesn't feel like the joke is about the character. When Velma or Not Starfire depict the characters as being disgusting freaks with bad hygiene you do get the vibe it's intended to make the character "relatable" or something and give them a minor flaw that comes across more as them being like, "I'm so cool I don't even care."

I agree with the message but I always disagreed with how the message was conveyed. Mob is special even by psychic standards he's special but he shouldnt use his power carelessly and should still strive to be a well rounded person cause at the end of the day he's still human. When the psychics were working at a convenience store I immediately thought just go be a hitman or a world class athlete (if they want). Is the convenience store good for their character? Yes, but why make minimum wage. They don't need to dominate the world as villians, they don't need to view normal humans as ants but they can still use their gifts to obtain more. They had 3 seasons to show us someone who uses their powers in a healthy way but all of them are adult children
