Falsebound Kingdom is by far my favorite spinoff Yu-Gi-Oh game. It had so much potential for it's own RPG franchise and potential gameplay. But of course they leave us with what could have been a pretty good generic RPG that's a blast every time I play it. It's like memory unlocked. Edit: To be fair in the first stage of Yugi/Kaiba it's mentioned that monsters can be found in the overworld. You even do a tutorial battle vs wild monsters. That's how people found monsters on the map. The one that I can't believe people found was moisture creature. Walk counter clockwise in a circle on a certain distance away from the abandon village lol.
@tomforge6146 ай бұрын
It also is a bit of a reminder of the times when you could be hopeful to use almost any critter you wanted with equip cards, despite the meta. Akin to recruiting a party from a tavern. As opposed to today, where Duel Monsters feels more like arguing which iteration of Power Rangers was best with two people arguing TMNT was better, but everyone agrees that Godzilla and Super Saiyan God Goku are stronger.
@littlekuribohimposte6 ай бұрын
Iactually had to restart the Moisture Creature mission because I almost ran out of time. Also, some of these are rough to get. Like,the Kaiba ission where you fight Bandit Keith, he and his mooks are all charging at you. You need to stall and get a decent ways behind him to fight Larvae Moth and Queen of Autumn Leaves
@yep_itsmeagain6 ай бұрын
@@littlekuribohimposte My first attempt at Moisture Creature I also had to restart the mission because it's like kind of funky. But the thing is people found that MC is actually walking on the map so walking counter clockwise runs into him. To make it easier it's suggested to get the biggest monster circle. I find him every time with that. I remember prior to PS3/Wii/360, I use to play this game every summer when I was out of school lol. Yeah there is actual challenge on some of these missions, but of course with time people have found ways to cheese missions like the bandit Keith chase and the Teá chase missions.
@littlekuribohimposte6 ай бұрын
@@yep_itsmeagain The Tea Chase mission is only easyif you are on Yugi's story first because Dancing Elf is one lefel off Screen Mist and at low levels it works all the time pretty much. @yep_itsmeagain6 ай бұрын
@@littlekuribohimposte Nah it's a way to cheese it every time. It's something like pull Tea northwards as her leader monster can out run the enemy monsters. They'll all wind up going into the base and only a few will give chase. I learned it recently following a guide.

Can’t believe you didn’t mention Moisture creature, the epitome of “wtf” game design. The only monster in the game that moves while roaming( you have no way to know how or where he is). Comes with magic level 5 at level 1, the only monster to have any magic baseline. Starts with only one ap and has a max of 3, when others have 2-4 MINIMUM, and gets a self buffing special that uses two of those Canonically is a fucking alien that got sucked into the game with you The best way to get him to place a canon and increase its range on a useless fort that will see no combat and stand on the line with a monster with a big radius and pray to god. Literally just so many “wtf” decisions and I can’t tell if I love it or hate it.
@dudeguy86866 ай бұрын
1 AP, and a special move that needs 2 to use.. Still, that's kind of a hint to how to break the monster. That item that gives spirit monsters more turns can basically give Moisture Creature unlimited AP, and with his high stats, he puts those turns to use well. Idk if it's really worth it, never tried. But is a possibility of a build.
@thenewranger12346 ай бұрын
@@dudeguy8686 As someone who has tried that. It's really not worth it. You'd be better offnusing another monster with access to magic, but naturally more AP. That way their equipment slots can be used for things like stat buffing, healing, or spell items instead. He's not a bad monster by anymeans if you have the right set up. But you can make other monsters just as, if not better with even less setup
@aprinnyonbreak12903 ай бұрын
@@thenewranger1234 This Spirit teams are absolutely nuts, and the only thing Moisture Creature really brings to them is Magic 5, which Spirit teams kinda don't need. While nigh infinite AP is part of why they're so good, it's also the case that teams that can do their combo more than once are better, and Moisture Creature really demands more of these AP item charges than such teams otherwise needs. The effort to return on Moisture Creature just isn't there, and pretty much his only niche IS that level 5 magic, which is probably the earliest source of it if you pick him up, or can be plugged into a Spirit team and passively benefit from the AP.

It's a great irony that Upper Deck Entertainment picked it up in the US at first instead. Especially considering UDE only had a handful of licenses (and now only has like one or two after Konami sued them for counterfeiting and took the TCG license for themselves). I remember FK. It’s weird, while I do remember it being slow as all heck, I still remember it being a good and fun game to play.

After playing Vanillaware's Unicorn Overlord I feel the potential Falsebound Kingdom had could've been achieved. Imagining a YuGiOh themed Ogre Battle Game sounds fantastic if enough care was put into such a project and while I heavily doubt Modern Konami would ever do such the thought of such does make one wish it could happen.

My little brother and I loved this game :) we did eventually look up a guide to figure out where all the monsters were. there was one monster we couldn't get even with the guide. forget which monster it was specifically but it was on a stage where there were only two bases & every enemy from the enemy base just beelines straight to your own base. & while they constantly do that you need to wander off extremely far into a corner of the map & hope you can make it there before either winning or losing the stage. we never could get someone over to the location in time.

Moisture Creature, maybe?

@@shadowrose8907 maybe. it was so frustrating. it made us think why would they even bother to put a monster in that level.

I said this in a community post mentioning this game, but I'll say it again: I still love this game in spite of its crustiness and missed potential. This one could have been so much more. Thankfully, I hear that the modding scene recently picked up with this one, as it has both a randomizer and a difficulty mod. While I myself am not a modder by any means, that doesn't mean I haven't thought of ideas over the years for what I personally would do if I were to. My main goals with such a mod would be as follows: 1) Buff existing monsters, ESPECIALLY Dragons. Each type would get a new type of equipment that they and possibly one other type can get. Dragons would have the one existing exclusive equipment, Dragonic Attack, finally give them a 500 ATK boost as well as quartering its cost from 4000 gold to 1000, making it much more affordable. Some monsters would get added Abilities. For example, it makes absolutely no sense that a monster named Winged Dragon, _Guardian of the Fortress_ 1 doesn't get Castle-Adept in the base game. Others can have effects added to their basic attacks, such as Sea King Dragon now having an attack where it shoots out poison-inflicting bubbles like its flavor text says. I also hear that Water-Adept gets a bad rep, so why not give them their own version of Power of Nature (albeit all such items having a reduced number of charges)? 2) Add new effects. Surprisingly, despite the existence of attack effects that add more damage if attacking a specific type, there aren't ones that do this against Warriors and Spellcasters. For this, I'd give such effects to Fortress Whale and Tiger Axe respectively based on their effects in other games. Some monsters (namely, Battle Ox, Gaia the Fierce Knight, and their respective fusions) can have an effect that allows their attacks to ignore the Armor ability. I can also see Mystical Beast of Serket having a health-draining effect added to its basic attack. As for Abilities: I recall that Rage was an effect in BAM, and so we could have an effect that raises a monster's ATK when it gets down to half health for monsters that had Rage in BAM, such as Hitotsu-Me Giant and Dharma Cannon. Another one I thought of is Stamina, which would basically give monsters the ability to survive an attack with 1 HP once per encounter. Sanga, Kazejin and Suijin would sure love that. Heck, why not give some monsters unique Abilities, like having Lord of Dragons give any Dragon teammates the Status Guard effect? And that's just scratching the surface. 3) Add a new type of item- Traps. It's honestly kind of surprising that Traps aren't much of a thing in this game, and I don't mean the base cannons or the third Yugi mission. Basically, they would be a type of limited-uses item where instead of being able to use them in battle normally, they would get used automatically (for no AP cost) if certain conditions are met. Your opponent starts a battle in one of your bases? Your monster's Reinforcements activates, giving that monster an extra 1000 ATK... but your opponent's monster's Rush Recklessly could also activate, giving them the same boost. Your opponent's attacking one of your monsters? That monster could have Block Attack on to automatically have it guard. Your opponent's using magic? Type Zero Magic Crusher negates that magic's effect and deals damage to that monster. These are just some examples. Going back to points 1 and 2 for a moment: Jinzo would naturally have an Ability that prevents all Traps from activating at all; Reaper of the Cards could gain a special attack that not only damages a target but also reveals and depletes charges from one of the target's Traps; and the new equipment for Dragons specifically would be The Dragon's Bead, which would block any Traps from activating in response to the equipped monster's basic attack. 4) Add more monsters. Seriously, with all the different niches that the new added effects opens up, I've put down listings for enough monsters from the old days to nearly DOUBLE the existing roster. Monsters like Vampire Lord, Giant Flea and Parasite Paracide that could also drain health. Airknight Parshath, Mad Sword Beast and Black Tyranno having Armor-piercing effects. Big Shield Gardna to capitalize on the newly added defensive items. Tyrant Dragon having the effect of The Dragon's Bead built in (after all, that's the monster where that one comes from in the first place). Cockroach Knight having the absolutely annoying combo of Armor, Super Stamina and Endurance. Old-school fanservice by putting in Gilti-Gearfried, Dark Master - Zorc and the freaking _Hecate Sisters_ among others. Monsters that have archetypal synergy with each other, like members of the Amazoness and Dark Scorpions archetypes. Heck, why not have Outstanding Dog Marron in there as an example of Magikarp Power? Granted, some of these monsters didn't exist at the time of the original game's release, but hey, that hasn't stopped Yugioh modders before. Yeah, as you can see, I've thought about this a lot over the years. *DICE ROLL!!*

Does anyone think Pendulum monsters were a way for K to try the deck master concept from the original series.

This game is SOOO close to something I would consider a hidden gem on the gamecube. There is so much depth with the combat and the way they made cards from the early card game into items was super clever. The monsters have charm, the animations are good even if the maps are kind of bland, and I just love the unique flavor this game has. I know a lot of people site Duelists of the Roses as their favorite of these types of games but I honestly feel like Falsebound Kingdom beats it for me. It's just the issues that you bring up in this video that keep it down for me. And while I am not as harsh on the game, I do for sure understand the criticisms. This, to me, is the PERFECT kind of game to remake in the modern era. A game that many passed up on due to wonky controls or glaring issues that could easily be fixed. And also just adding more classic yugioh monsters to the roaster would be AMAZING!. But they would never do that because A. Konami is Konami, B. it wasn't popular enough and probably largely seen as a failure and C. Konami seems to be moving away from these kinds of experimental games. So sadly it's probably going to fade into obscurity.

So... I've been wanting to make a Yu-Gi-Oh! like RPG in RPG Maker using the card arts as a fan project... and seeing this game I somehow missed as a kid, hearing what it does right, and what it could have done better, has me even more inspired. The main difference in my idea is being much more story driven, axing the regular cast and making it a world focused only on the monsters, giving them their own lives and personalities. I would have a heavy focus on this era of monsters, as I loved Forbidden Memories/Duelist of the Roses as a kid, but I would include some newer generational stuff too that fit thematically, especially retrains as "powered up" versions of the original, primarily when re-encountering a monster you beat previously. I have over 1,000 card arts saved for this already. I have plotlines focusing on Chaos, and how it affects Dark Magician, Gaia, Blue-Eyes, and Black Luster Soldier. I also have some crazy ideas with Dark Magician being a highly respected wizard but somehow being split into the original DM, and Arcana's DM, one trying to save the world, and the other plunging into the Chaos. I'm hyped now! Let me know what you think of the idea!

Also, I love your vids btw! If you haven't already (Maybe I missed it) I'd love to see a retrospective of Capsule Monsters Coliseum for PS2. It was one of my favorites back in the day, and also takes the Yu-Gi-Oh! gameplay in a more tactical and RPG focused direction without the cards. (Though I know Capsule Monsters has existed as it's own thing before the game.)
