There has been pushback here in RSA for the precise reasons you mention. At the same time tho, there is a cultural language context to the Rassie tweets that is misunderstood ... if he kept to Afrikaans it would be pretty humourous & inoffensive, but, it becomes boorish & sulky in English. However his English tweets result in drawing the broader (previously excluded) population into the discussion in a way that's unifying more than we realise. The effect on many is not so much the points being valid but rather a courageous man with many flaws leading transparently & it's making a connection. Not using the formal channels and rather resorting the rabid public opinion is duplicitous. He needs to grow up and follow the rules like everyone else has to, even if they are wrong. I note that Rassie never questions bad decisions that go for us, in this action he illustrates that poor refereeing is not his problem. Poor refereeing when we are on the receiving end is his problem. Has Rassie posted the bad decisions that went for us he may well have received a different response. Rassie expects refereeing perfection to bail poor Springbok performances. As a Bok supporter I find that Rassie actions are bring South African rugby into disrepute. There are so many "unwritten rules" that are considered in the "spirit" of the game. But world rugby has lost that spirit by all the rule changes. They talk about bringing the game into disrepute if you bring up mistakes of a ref, the game is already in disrepute. Rugby fans love the long standing traditions that world rugby is slowly getting rid of and they expect the fans to shut up when they're making a blunder of everything. I think it's good Rassie speaks his mind. ( He is not wrong ) It's funny how he posts video clips with quite a bit of play in each with no context and people can clearly identify where the refs mistake is and then debate it online.

What if a decision like this determines a quarter-final, semi-final or the final next year in the World Cup where the AB's are on the short end?? What then? No, there are to many 50/50 calls where refs influence games significantly with their interpretations of the laws without consulting the TMO who has a better view of everything taking place. Refs must become better before next year! Most games these days are very close and let's be honest, most 50/50 calls these days go against the Boks! Is it because of Rassie? Probably! But at least he is keeping them on their toes and holding them accountable, even if it is via Twitter.

Maybe this panel must first look at the rule again. If any part of the body touches the ground (except your feet obviously) to support your bodyweight, you out of play. The player drove into the ground with his head and shoulders and was supposed to release ball, he can not keep playing/handling the ball when he is off his feet.
@pauljamison33402 жыл бұрын
The level of international referees has dropped in the last year or so. The ref in the Scotland v NZ game was terrible. So a try would only have been "possibly" scored not "probably"!!!

What is Rassie’s real agenda? It’s twofold, I believe; a) to lift his players after a loss by focusing on the Refs poor play and not the players themselves, and b) to install a siege mentality with his players, ie “the rest of the rugby playing world has it in for us, let’s rise above that and not let the bastards beat us unfairly”. It’s all about the Springboks, not about the Refs, it’s not about WR. Can a bok fan please tell me what soultion they have to ref errors. Holding them accountable by banning them wont stop mistakes, its a hard job with a lot happening around them all the time. I read a lot of moaning from SA fans with words like "accountable" being thrown about, but what does that actually mean??
@elduderino32362 жыл бұрын
Well, I speak for myself here, but nobody is calling for anyone to be "banned" - apart from people wanting to silence Rassie. By calling out poor officiating in the public domain, "accountable" pertains to the need for World Rugby to publicly address errors / grey areas with officiating. Fans (not just South Africans) are growing impatient with the lack of transparency surrounding the referee review process. Refs are human and will always make mistakes, but it would be so much more productive to have World Rugby put up their hand and say "we got that wrong". We want to evolve our game so that there is as little subjectivity as possible in terms of refereeing. As it stands, our game is far too dependant on referee interpretation. Teams should not have to study the referees before a game to see how that individual interprets a given situation.

To do as you suggest would be at total upheaval in a lot of the rugby rules, and furthermore I do find world rugby are trying to do away with these inconsistencies over the last few years by doing things like removing intent and awarding more free kicks at scrum time. And when content creators like TSA analytics are making videos titled WTF was that Wayne Barnes, and that video gets thousands of likes, it's hardly directed at world rugby that's a direct attack on the referee that is being supported.

As fans we get frustrated with some of the calls out there especially when it goes against our precious team. I know I felt the AB fans when they were ousted from the WC and the by the same ref. For a forward pass. I just believe that we the fans know when we see BS on the field. And we really don't need Rassie to highlight it. It would be great to actually hear that some of these refs are held accountable. Some of the decisions made by the officials do cost the teams the game. And to say that the teams should not leave it up to the officials to decide the outcome by ensuring you have enough points against your opponent is not really fair as all the teams are so closely matched. It may be those decisions that cost the All Blacks, Springboks, or any other team the RWC title. Let's hope we don't have to discuss this issue when it comes to the next WC.

Why, can you (commentators, news, podcast etc etc) have a say...but not Rassie or any coach for that matter? Why are @worldrugby beyond approach? Who holds the officials accountable if not for the fans/players/coaching teams. The issue is @worldrugby is just not addressing the matter...other than Banning! Where is thier platform for dispute resolution??

Rassie is the only who stands up against WR. The others are scared. World Rugby must look at the facts at hand and not the person. The untouchable refs must account for their mistakes. The players account and are punished for their wrong doings on the field. Why can't they not be accountable of punished for their actions.

No-one else does what Rassie does because Rassie is a Saffa. We live in a country where protests take place everyday. Those of you who are not South African won't understand. You accept what your government says and carry on. However, we protest unpopular decisions. So what we do is not whine or whinge as most of you say. We protest unfair decisions. Ask us why we do something before opening your mouths. Also, in every game there are bad ref calls on both teams. If this does not get sorted out, kindly shut up when your team is at the end of a poor decision by the ref and you lose the World Cup ✌🇿🇦

if someone doesnt start to stand up against world rugby..rugby cant move forward like other sport and if players can get red cards for bad tackles why cant refs be hold accountble for their actions they have TMO use it assistant refs ... iunfortunatly we not as powerfull as the england FA who lost heavy to germany in the world cup and later force goaline technology into soccer...Rassie went the right way through all the channels and noboby listens to South Africans wait till the roles are reversed nez zealand rugny will be in a state of mourning again

Joke of a man. Great coach, great player before that but he's destroying his legacy and bringing the integrity of South African Rugby down with him. Id like to think that the majority of springboks fans have no time for this pathetic behaviour and find it every bit as embarrassing and appalling as the rest of us do, but its really worrying to see the multitudes of South Africans coming out on social media and in the comments of KZbin videos to support him and engage in the same shameful behaviour. No respect for officials, no respect for opposing teams no respect for the game. Truly reprehensible carry on from a fan base and a coach that I used to think should be better than that

Leave of country out of your stinken mouth. Follow your own coach and rugby management. Why are you obsessed with following our countrymen around and looking for errors? Why don't you give us consistent referees? You won't because hey, it's easier to win with chaos refereeing. It levels the playing field. You do Boggeroll about refereeing but when someone does it, you cry? WHY...WHY?

As a SAfrican I find Rassie an embarrassment . He clearly believes there is a conspiracy against us that reaches back decades. His sarcasm is childish and akin to a rugby dad getting too involved in his kids games from the sideline. This kind of behavior encourages the bok players to be whining babies. Has anyone made videos in reverse for each of his showing how the opposition team had calls wrongly made against them? Easy to do.
@sbok94812 жыл бұрын
Why don't you do it? Or are you incapable of doing that for the opposition teams? Embarrassed about what? Pointing out inconsistent refereeing? Are you embarrassed about that? Don't make us South Africans laugh. NZ is used to attacking their coaches in the open for all to witness. Calling Foster all the worst things you can imagine. He is only human and doing what it takes to win. When the team win, it's suddenly hunky dory. Be embarrassed about that. Be embarrassed about all the poor refereeing. Be embarrassed about why only Rassie is criticised when he calls put poor refereeing. Must I show you how Rennie, Foster and Eddie Jones did the same? And you didn't say anything?

These commentators are poor to be honest. Russie is absolutely correct. There were several poor calls that turns wins into losses this season. And it's as clear as daylight to see. So if these "experts" can't see the game in slow motion, then they are part of the problem. For me - the ref can refer. He should. Then the TV ref must get it right, and not be schooled by the fans. Is that too much to ask for?
