Never thought the day would come that media don’t speak out against the issues of World rugby…kudus to Rassie. Rugby has too many rules for one person to manage. You have the power as media to influence a change. Yet one man has to do your work. Shame on all media outlets. I guess money do talk.

come on lads how can you say his knee didn't hit the ground, you better than that. i think it's good to highlight professionals who are officiating test match games. Wasn't the point of TMO and video assistants to stop these errors? if it was the point then it hasn't worked so why don't we just go back to the way it was... then at least there is the human error factor we can all get on board with again but the TMO was meant to take this human error out of the game right?

There has been pushback here in RSA for the precise reasons you mention. At the same time tho, there is a cultural language context to the Rassie tweets that is misunderstood ... if he kept to Afrikaans it would be pretty humourous & inoffensive, but, it becomes boorish & sulky in English. However his English tweets result in drawing the broader (previously excluded) population into the discussion in a way that's unifying more than we realise. The effect on many is not so much the points being valid but rather a courageous man with many flaws leading transparently & it's making a connection. They recognise old Dutch heritage of blunt humourous talk to invoke strong discussion about stuff not intended to malign.

Rassie is making statements and hiding behind the "the narrative that he is not in control of". He starts the narrative with his sly digs and then walks away. Not using the formal channels and rather resorting the rabid public opinion is duplicitous. He needs to grow up and follow the rules like everyone else has to, even if they are wrong. I note that Rassie never questions bad decisions that go for us, in this action he illustrates that poor refereeing is not his problem. Poor refereeing when we are on the receiving end is his problem. Has Rassie posted the bad decisions that went for us he may well have received a different response. Rassie expects refereeing perfection to bail poor Springbok performances. As a Bok supporter I find that Rassie actions are bring South African rugby into disrepute. He is being a whiny crybaby, nobody likes that, he needs to up his EQ and stop playing victim.

There are so many "unwritten rules" that are considered in the "spirit" of the game. But world rugby has lost that spirit by all the rule changes. They talk about bringing the game into disrepute if you bring up mistakes of a ref, the game is already in disrepute. Rugby fans love the long standing traditions that world rugby is slowly getting rid of and they expect the fans to shut up when they're making a blunder of everything. I think it's good Rassie speaks his mind. ( He is not wrong ) It's funny how he posts video clips with quite a bit of play in each with no context and people can clearly identify where the refs mistake is and then debate it online.

What if a decision like this determines a quarter-final, semi-final or the final next year in the World Cup where the AB's are on the short end?? What then? No, there are to many 50/50 calls where refs influence games significantly with their interpretations of the laws without consulting the TMO who has a better view of everything taking place. Refs must become better before next year! Most games these days are very close and let's be honest, most 50/50 calls these days go against the Boks! Is it because of Rassie? Probably! But at least he is keeping them on their toes and holding them accountable, even if it is via Twitter.

Maybe this panel must first look at the rule again. If any part of the body touches the ground (except your feet obviously) to support your bodyweight, you out of play. The player drove into the ground with his head and shoulders and was supposed to release ball, he can not keep playing/handling the ball when he is off his feet.

The level of international referees has dropped in the last year or so. The ref in the Scotland v NZ game was terrible. He was penalising players for offside when they were not interfering with the play. That was never a penalty try. The play would not have scored as the ball bounced left!!!! So a try would only have been "possibly" scored not "probably"!!!

I don't agree with your statement "if you lose the game it's not on the ref" ..this is test match rugby with top tier teams playing against each other. Because of the competitiveness of the game at this level, there isn't much separating the teams and so the games will inevitably be close and so the ref's bad decision will cost you the game..we need to stop shielding refs from taking responsibility

Question is, who's holding the refs with bad decisions accountable and why can't WR be transparent about bad decisions.They keep talking about Rassie placing the game of Rugby in disrepute, what about the refs whom WR cover up for? What is Rassie’s real agenda? It’s twofold, I believe; a) to lift his players after a loss by focusing on the Refs poor play and not the players themselves, and b) to install a siege mentality with his players, ie “the rest of the rugby playing world has it in for us, let’s rise above that and not let the bastards beat us unfairly”. It’s all about the Springboks, not about the Refs, it’s not about WR. If it was about the Refs and/or WR, he’d be “analyzing” every Bokkes match (win or lose) and other “poorly officiated” matches where he doesn’t have a vested interest.

But look at how many matches the strongest team loses on the day due to bad reffering. I know everyone says you gotta play the ref but if you pass normally and it gets called a forward, you always onside but the ref says your offside, you legal at scrums or mauls and the ref says otherwise then what do you do? You can't adapt because the ref is just against you no matter what. And it's stuff likd that which needs to get sorted before this world cup.

I read a lot of moaning from SA fans with words like "accountable" being thrown about, but what does that actually mean??
@elduderino3236
@elduderino3236 2 жыл бұрын
Well, I speak for myself here, but nobody is calling for anyone to be "banned" - apart from people wanting to silence Rassie. By calling out poor officiating in the public domain, "accountable" pertains to the need for World Rugby to publicly address errors / grey areas with officiating. Fans (not just South Africans) are growing impatient with the lack of transparency surrounding the referee review process. Refs are human and will always make mistakes, but it would be so much more productive to have World Rugby put up their hand and say "we got that wrong". We want to evolve our game so that there is as little subjectivity as possible in terms of refereeing. As it stands, our game is far too dependant on referee interpretation. Teams should not have to study the referees before a game to see how that individual interprets a given situation.

@@elduderino3236 I hear what you're saying, but I have read fans wanting referees to be banned in the same way players are banned. The thing is, if you actually go through the rugby rules there are so many that contradict each other and also rely on such fine differences that it's impossible to officiate without using interpretation. To do as you suggest would be at total upheaval in a lot of the rugby rules, and furthermore I do find world rugby are trying to do away with these inconsistencies over the last few years by doing things like removing intent and awarding more free kicks at scrum time. And when content creators like TSA analytics are making videos titled WTF was that Wayne Barnes, and that video gets thousands of likes, it's hardly directed at world rugby that's a direct attack on the referee that is being supported.

Why we not talking about the calls missed. Like 10m38s Fickou jumps and headbutts PSDT in the face, red card somewhat but no officials pick it up. The leading with the forearm that Rassie posted, completely missed but you guys want to discuss a 3 movement try like it was the defining factor between a win or a lose. No an additional 2 red cards for dangerous play by French players would have been defining factors. Instead the Boks played 40 minutes 1 man down, when reality is by the time DuPont got his red card, French side should have already have had 2 red cards.

I am patiently waiting for the world cup. I completely understand what Rassie is trying to do but the rest of the world will only understand when they play the world cup and their teams lose on a tight margin because of some ref's inability to do his job properly. Lets face it when it comes to quarters,semis and finals those games are rarely won with big scores.Just watch all the video clips and complains then.

It was a double movement. How is it possible that a try that has so much riding on it cannot suddenly be checked by the TMO because of a lack of communication and video footage? It's BS. World Rugby can ban Rassie a million times it won't change the fact that the referring is poor The game has been destroyed by yellow and red cards. If this continues there will be major drama in the world Cup next year.

Why, when a professional player makes a mistake.. say a head clash in a tackle.... they are red carded and sometimes cited for reckless play.. sometimes banned for future games but blatant "errors" by professional referees are just discussed later behind closed doors and referees just have to say sorry and they are back on the field the next week churning out error after game changing error. World rugby shows no interest in improving the situation. Rassie methods are putting future performances in the spotlight and he has probably achieved more since the Nick Berry incident to improve refs performances than WR has done in 4 decades. All strength to him. World Rugby are as transparent as newly laid concrete.

It also amazes me how the technology in France is so far behind the rest of the world. This is not the first time that the decisions in error (forward passes etc) are not replayed by the TMO. And now the TMO suddenly has no comms with the on-field match officials at a crucial time in the match. What will happen in the next WC? French might actually win their first WC. Even if it is by ensuring the fans don't get to see the replays live. 🙂 I'm picking that next year the WC will bring a lot more controversies than we can imagine especially when it comes to the French games. 😂😂 And it won't only be the Springboks whinging if that happens. I'm going to put some money now on the French to win. 🤣😂🤣

As fans we get frustrated with some of the calls out there especially when it goes against our precious team. I know I felt the AB fans when they were ousted from the WC and the by the same ref. For a forward pass. I just believe that we the fans know when we see BS on the field. And we really don't need Rassie to highlight it. It would be great to actually hear that some of these refs are held accountable. Some of the decisions made by the officials do cost the teams the game. And to say that the teams should not leave it up to the officials to decide the outcome by ensuring you have enough points against your opponent is not really fair as all the teams are so closely matched. It may be those decisions that cost the All Blacks, Springboks, or any other team the RWC title. Let's hope we don't have to discuss this issue when it comes to the next WC.

Id like to think that the majority of springboks fans have no time for this pathetic behaviour and find it every bit as embarrassing and appalling as the rest of us do, but its really worrying to see the multitudes of South Africans coming out on social media and in the comments of KZbin videos to support him and engage in the same shameful behaviour. These commentators are poor to be honest. Russie is absolutely correct. There were several poor calls that turns wins into losses this season. And it's as clear as daylight to see. So if these "experts" can't see the game in slow motion, then they are part of the problem. For me - the ref can refer. He should. Then the TV ref must get it right, and not be schooled by the fans. Is that too much to ask for?
