It was kinda disturbing that he didn't realize how distracted he was. He started and stopped doing things almost constantly. Im glad you brought this up. People will say you're hating on the product not realizing you are bringing to light a conversation we need to really have about how tech platforms by their very nature transform the norms of society. We can be excited about new tech and have a healthy skepticism about it at the same time.

It’s funny how life works. I was literally just watching Casey’s video and thinking about how incredibly uncomfortable I kept feeling at the thought of anyone thinking that it’s a cool idea or clever, for that matter, to walk around with that thing on their head. I couldn’t help but just think how people are going to see that video and start mimicking it. This makes me super nervous. Especially nowadays when people seem to just do the most mindless things for attention and likes without considering anyone or anything else around them. I say all this because I then see the option to watch your video and saw your image and how you looked and it was exactly the same reaction that I had while viewing of Casey’s video.

Totally agree. It's not because some kind of technology is possible that we should use it. The technology is optional, not mandatory, don't let the marketing fool you guys. There's rollerblades out there, but that doesn't mean that I need to use them all the time. I don't even use notifications in my phone. I want to experience the real world when I'm outside. I know the apps that will have notifications forever. When I actively want I could check them. If someone really needs to talk they could call me (that's so NEW).

Agree with others. I think the point is missed in this video. In a place where you would normally be inclined to a room, you can be outdoors. As an avid hiker, who likes to take long hikes and then get work done at a destination during the hiking high, this is 100% coming with me. I’ll be working from the top of upper falls in Yosemite, figuring out my life after a breathtaking hike. I’ve taken in the views, and then I’m getting into work. Around fresh air. Not confined to a small room. This isn’t about disconnecting, it’s about being able to connect MORE. The fear is creating hallucinations of perception. Respectively, you’re seeing a snake, when it’s only a log.
@TravisMCP
@TravisMCP 7 ай бұрын
So you are saying you NEED computing when you are hiking, something more than your phone can give you. Gotcha. If I was gonna take the effort to go at a top of a fall, I could not care less about computers because I can literally do that every day. But that is just me. And probably a lot of others 🤷🏻‍♂️
@simplysaso
@simplysaso 7 ай бұрын
@@TravisMCP again… missing the point. Not sure I can help you see it but I’ll take another jab at it. We have to get work done from a computer. I’m an outdoors guy. I want to work from the outdoors not a room. I’d much rather hike up Yosemite and do my five hours of work in the flow state from the outdoor high, then a room. And in fact I’ve done that on plenty of work days from my laptop. I’m lucky enough I can manage my teams in person, and remote. I can choose to spend some times in the office, and then some days on top of a mountain now. I don’t have to spend all 5 in the office, and this device makes that a much more appealing option, being able to actually spatial compute with multiple monitors. Make sense now?

Very respectfully, this sounds exactly like when I was selling phones in around 2002 and people would tell me, _"Why would I send a text. I could just call 'em."_ Granted, I'm a person who has often wished that people out in public had a dimmer switch. Nothing to do with VR. I just wish I could turn them down. I think that this tech will be less intrusive in five years though. It's designed to allow you to interact with people. I think that aspect will improve with time.

I personally don’t see myself getting isolated, but I could see myself wearing it outdoors. Not for immersion, but for assistance. For example: I have no vision in my right eye, and even though I do use my cane in unfamiliar areas, I could see this device as a pair of talking GPS sunglasses that just so happen to be able to call an Uber cuz it’s also my phone, while providing extra assistance through the LiDAR so I don’t bump into someone, and I could point at a bus schedule on the wall and it could read it to me hands free, while I continue walking. (granted I’m talking many years down the line) but that’s my personal end goal with something like this, the ultimate assistance tool. There is a pair of glasses out there called eSight that can do a lot of what I described… for $7000, and you don’t get the benefits of the Apple ecosystem that an Apple vision gen 3 or 4 would have, so I’m watching this very closely.

As you indicated, this technology has been out there for a while, but once Apple gets a hold of it… watch out! You absolutely can use a VR headset outside, you just have to make sure sun light doesn't hit the inside lenses, because obviously it would burn the displays. But people haven't been living in the moment ever since smart phones came out. I constantly see people taking walks but instead of enjoying the scenery or engaging with people they are walking with, they are all looking at their phones. However, I see VR headsets worn in public to be perfect for introverts, who want to get out but don't want interaction with others. I disagree that we are living in the age of the movie Surrogates, we are actually living in the age of the movie Idiocracy. As far as being screwed goes, people said the same thing when the Television was invented and people were glued to them.

Wow! Where have you been for the past 15 years?! If you go out in any city around the globe, every spare moment whether waiting at a bus stop or riding on a bus or subway, or standing in line to get coffee, or sitting on a park bench ... or even sitting in a coffee shop, people's heads are buried in their cellphones or laptops ... oblivious to the world around themselves ... not interacting with strangers. But even if they put away their cellphones, in most large cities if a stranger gives eye contact to another stranger, it's often misinterpreted as either a threatening gesture ... or at the very least as an uncomfortable moment, so the recipient of the eye gaze quickly looks away. I doubt that many people will choose to walk around with Vision Pro goggles (Casey was showcasing the amusing aspect and the direction this technology might eventually take) ... but if this 'vision' technology ever becomes mainstream and streamlined into much smaller ordinary glasses, then it will merely be a more efficient way of doing what's already been happening for more than a decade all over the world.

This is such a pessimistic way of viewing things. Could you imagine if everyone thought of tech this way? We would literally not have the innovation that has been brought forward to this day. You don't think that maybe he was doing that on purpose for the video? We all know how he is when out and about, and I'm sure he is very capable of being present. I simply disagree. That is a very interesting viewpoint, though.

"When I go outside, the two or three times a year I do." I can relate to that. XD I've been thinking about a world like the one depicted in Surrogates for a long time...I might take a look at that movie. Thanks for the recommendation! Personally, I do think that it's better to experience the world, but at the same time, it's important to acknowledge that the world can be painful. I like seeing where all of this technology is going, but it's certainly true that we depend on it too much. Rather than try to fix the world, it's easier to ignore it and go into virtual worlds, which do have other problems, but which are much more customizable and editable. I'd say the ideal is for technology to integrate with the physical world and the physical experience, so that you get bits of both. I don't know if that ideal will ever come to be.

I'm into tech myself but I have no interest in a.i. since a.i. can be used nefariously especially when scammers and people committing fraud with a.i. Manufacturers says that the a.i. is on device but with software updates on phones, they can be updated and make a.i. work when being connected to the internet and the manufacturers can easily change there mind about not being on device because they changed there mind. I saw the fine print on samsung website that a.i. needs to be connected to the internet and with software bugs, the data from a.i. can be leaked and with software, its not perfect.

This product is the best example of what I mean by Apple Users. Omg another way to use a tablet!

Got mines yesterday 512G but I just opened it this morning and my mind is 🤯. That dinosaur experience was nothing I’ve ever seen and I have all the Oculus VR headsets.

Did you go outside onto the subway and to a krispy kreme? I heard that’s the best experience. 😂

Maybe in the future we’ll all be checked out of reality, trying to escape it. It’ll be one sad, lonely world.

I'm actually pretty disappointed in how people are using the Quest 3 and the Apple Vision Pro. I'm a huge VR/MR/AR/XR person. Big fan. But not using these things as passive tools in the home? I don't get it. I spent too much time as a videographer and editor so I don't want to disconnect from the world. And I'm an introvert! I love the AVP at home while I'm working, utilizing this as a multiscreen/multitasking tool. I kind of agree with you, man. It's weird. SF6 > T8 ;). Better than MK1, I guess ;)

Travis, good to see you back and I hope you are well. Would really love to see you hop on a stream to discuss the latest with Arcade1Up because there continues to be no news and everyone is speculating the worst. Also, interesting discussion on this technology. Agree that it doesn’t seem healthy to mix with public life, and that’s in part what’s gone wrong with social media in general. Technology is a problem when it replaces people having healthy real life experiences, relationships, and interactions.

Wow. What is left to be sacred? Spending time with friends and family will now have no distinction from video game highlight reels. Sex is going to be insane. You can literally now cheat while being intimate with your partner. At least with mobile phones and computers, there was a separation between reality and what was happening on a screen. This separation is no longer ostensible. There is none. Intimate moments are no longer. They now share living space with family guy clips. What it means to be human has never been so questionable.

People act like this is new, its not. Virtual reality has been here for years. Sony had a pair in 1998 called glasstron. People are so easy to manipulate its ridiculous. Everyone believes everything anymore..

I have to agree - his video kind of creeped me out. Hate to think that as prices come down on these things that this could be the future and like you, I love tech, just not that much. On the plus side, the avatar created for him to do FaceTime calls tamed his hair! 🤷🏻‍♂️
