It's interesting that you mention iPhone moment. I'm more impressed with Apple Vision Pro version 1 than I was with iPhone version 1. People forget just how crude that thing was. It was barely better than the Blackberries at the time but it did things different. Things that were more geared towards normies, basic things that people take for granted today. At the announcement of the iPhone, the vast majority of people did not think much of it. I imagine Blackberry probably didn't consider it real competition, by the time they realized how much of a competition it would be, it was too late for them. At the time, the industry was well behind Blackberry. People thought that first iPhone was too expensive and that being locked to ATT was going to the be the death of it. Those first couple versions were pretty rough, didn't change an industry overnight. I'm a techie and didn't buy one till iPhone 4. That's when I thought it was polished enough. I remember how interested everyone at work (normies) were with it. It took a lot of refinement and sunset of that ATT exclusivity before I saw it really take off and become the ubiquitous device it is today. The Oculus was the Blackberry ushering in the faux "smartphone" moment that wasn't real.

Don’t even know if the first two iPhones (gen 1 and 3G were even better than blackberry’s…) but I totally agree with the analogy. For a gen 1 product CATEGORY I was insanely impressed. The flaws or issues or down sides will get worked out long before I can afford one anyways 🤣

People are already tech addicted enough, and it's like people are loosing their ability to critically think. Aren't you adults tired of glass screens yet? Are you all paid to comment and promote Apple Vision... or do most of you actually think Apple Vision is somehow a good thing for humanity? I'm Gen Z and I'm CRAZY and I'm stupid, and I don't need more tech addiction. I need real life, real friends, and people who can help me be sane and grounded. I'm not talking about therapists, I mean Real friends that actually care and *aren't paid*. How about we make a nature focused culture in America, where people are taught to speak to people in real life, we leave the tech at home, we have real life forums with quality conversation, real hugging, and open debate. I want a culture where REAL life is the best reality. *I'm just a kid*, so I can't do much. I need your help to actually Make a Good Future.

I think the iPhone moment is a false equivalence. When iPhone launched cellphones had been a widely established market for a decade. Most people already had a cellphone. Difference was that this one did things a bit differently which customers ended up liking. The doubting was based on whether Apple could overcome market leaders like Nokia. Turns out they did. VR/AR has been a niche market for over a decade. I fail to see how Apple would be able to break VR/AR out of its niche market, especially with a device at this price point.

The external Display is a waste of money. Ok, others can see your eyes, this is a marginal benefit for a feature that surely is increasing a lot in the final cost. I had a Quest 2, the most interesting feature was the merged reality, that you don't need to remove the Oculus to see through it, also they did a decent work on mapping the room technology and merging the room in the virtual scene. The "weak point "of Quest 2 on this was black and white merging reality and the resolution, they should improve the maximum in this, and not waste in external display.
@TheIzzyNobreShow

Maybe their vision (pun intended) with the external display is trying to do something like people did with Airpods, specially the Pro and the 3s that have this passthrough thing, that some people wear them all the time even if not listening to content. If I remember correctly the 3s even detect that you're talking with someone then lowers the volume of your content and raises the volume from it's microphone so you can hear the other party better.

I definitly think it will sell way less than they expect. Much as Sonys VR2 headset did vs what they expected. As when it costs more than the PS5 itself in some regions. Then is not for everyone. And with a price tag of a super high end gaming PC with money to spare? Well.

The eyes thing on the Vision Pro is proof that Apple is terribly misguided regarding VR/AR It's like if Tesla's new car model came with a parachute. You can argue that it's not a hindrance, even if it is useless... but its mere presence shows they don't understand the product

Can you explain your word salad comment? Genuinely curious, I can't make heads or tails of it. What "don't they understand" in your opinion? This seems by far the most realized vision of AR/VR, so pls enlighten me. Who understands it better? Facebook? Google? Microsoft? What products out today are superior to this, or even in the same universe? Be specific.
@rafabulsing
@rafabulsing Жыл бұрын
Sure, i can spell it out for you. They're pitching this as less of a straight VR headset and more of a Google Glass type product that you use around other people. You know, that thing that was much more unobtrusive and people were still very weirded out by. The only way the eyes screen makes sense is that they're pitching this same use case. Which is completely ridiculous to think that it would work, considering the form factor. All the current headsets are better for gaming, because they include a controller. Lack of controller = no access to pretty much any of the existing VR games. The lack of controllers, I believe, will also greatly limit the professional uses for it, as hand gestures will never match the speed of simple button presses (though the apparently excellent passthrough makes this more evenly matched). Is that specific enough for you?
@Gatitasecsii
@Gatitasecsii Жыл бұрын
@@rafabulsing No... I don't think you're getting the point. I guess gamers are just too narrow-minded and can only think of games all day every day. Who cares if you have controllers or not, this device is controlled with gestures anyway, it could probably even simulate a keyboard, but I doubt you wouldn't be able to hook one up somehow. And I do agree with you, the eyes thing is ridiculous, wasteful and creepy and would be better off removed, but to be honest the device itself looks like it's going to be great, even if too expensive.
@rafabulsing
@rafabulsing Жыл бұрын
@@Gatitasecsii did you even read my comment to the end, or did you just quit halfway through? I specifically mention professional uses. Hand gestures are cool to have, and will probably be most useful in AR applications when you are interacting with the real world and using the headset as more of a simple HUD, and you don't want to be picking up and putting down controllers. But for actual creative work, 3D modeling, design, etc, the ease and speed of a controller is absolutely going to be greater than with simple hand tracking. There's no getting around that. Ignoring those use cases is making it DOA for a big part of many possible workflows VR/AR.
@Gatitasecsii
@Gatitasecsii Жыл бұрын
@@rafabulsing Again, I don't think they wouldn't allow you to hook up Apple branded peripherals, but even then I disagree, most you would need is a pen, and yet another thing, this is a first generation product. Did the ipad have a pen when it first came out? No. The pen made it hundreds of times better than it was, so I can see apple making something like it for the Vision. In any case, I don't care about apple, I just want other companies to make a product like it but much better and less expensive.

Just think about it, the device costs 3500 dollars, but that's how much you'd need to pay for an M2 equipped device + monitors + peripherals, among other things I'm not considering. I don't think this will be the boom of mixed reality, but I do think that someday it will be common to have a device like this to experience your daily life, adding some augmented reality it could display adds, people could have avatars like in vr chat and maybe we could replace screens and do somethings that you would have to use your cellphone. Izzy! Good to see you making content man. I’m the opposite of an expert on this, but I have been interested in this device and have been reading / watching videos here and there. I’m not sure they are designing this for the enterprise audience. I get the sense that as a first gen device that has been announced well-ahead of its release date, they’re targeting early adopters, and more so, developers who, can start working with what they know about the capabilities now. This means when the future, perhaps more affordable version comes out in the future, it will be ready with additional (non-homework targeted) functionality. As I understand it, it has only basic Apple apps, much like the first iPhone did when it came out. Thoughts?

I think Apple will succeed eventually with this, but not in the first gen. t he name Vision Pro suggests that there will be a Vision, maybe without the integrated computer (and that front facing display), that you can use with your iphones/ipads/macbooks etc. Since you already are teathered to the battery, why not. it's then "just" 1500 to 2000 Dollar which is way more in line with high end vr headsets, like the quest pro or valve index. It'd be more interesting for a lot of people that way, since you have a primary device you are always carrying and just jump into VR/AR when needed. The Pro feels like an always on thing. Also I hope they figure out a way to make it way smaller, more akin to the xreal glasses, but still offering the tracking that this has. I doubt a lot of people will sit in public with the Vision Pro.

@@TheIzzyNobreShow because they're obviously gonna try to make the average consumer also excited for the product. Just because it is a PRO device doesn't mean regular people can't go out of their way to buy it. And I agree with others here, there will most definitely be an Apple Vision Air in the future that will be much more stripped down and marginally cheaper for the average consumer, then they will release the Apple Vision which will be borderline useless and just a tiny bit cheaper than the Air, but it will sell Oh so well. Anyway the point is not Apple, the point is the other companies that will definitely copy apple and do much better and more reasonable, and cheaper.

Still going to be successful as hell. And I'm buying one. Not everything needs to be a perfect value proposition. Sometimes people who have money just like to buy cool toys. They made a premium product with a premium price tag. Cope, ya'll. You're not the primary demographic for every single product in the world.

I am sold also I cant wait to get a ticket away from this ever increasingly gloomier reality we live in ,and change it for one in the digital realm , I believe most people feels the same way,people spends thousands in a pair of sneakers ,in a two week vacation,in plastic surgery,in tickets for a concert or a game , a musical instrument ...If one can have all that and more ( for what is actually a bargain ,in that context) ..then even if one knows that VR is not real but if it feels real then it doesn't matter ...people will buy it like candy

Apple isn't releasing a toy. This is not in the same universe as a quest 2. This is a serious product, a serious new platform, and Apple is investing billions in the ecosystem and tools. For many it may replace their Macs and multi monitor setups. The tech is years more advanced than the quest. So the price comparisons are idiotic. You're thinking in such a small-minded way. The quest is not good enough for anything beyond mobile looking games. Apple's vision goes far beyond gaming.

Yeah I mean. I hate apple and it's true, this device is a full-on computer with monitors and peripherals and a ton of functionality that you haven't thought of yet. Of course they have no software to showcase this, but wait for when it releases, there's gonna be a pile of apps developed for it. As much as I despise apple, they sway the world to their designs.

this is way more than a computer is your ticket to a new world ,quest and the rest are doomed if they dont follow suit and up their game really really quick
