I used to play some guitar (self taught). I heard Paul Gilbert, i got depressed, but i thought i'd go on improving, he looked within reach. Then i saw Buckethead, i got even more depressed, quit for a few months and came back to it. Then i saw Guthrie, and i said "F*** it, this is it". Haven't touched my guitar since, its sitting in a corner getting dusty.

Guthrie really is just everything I aspire to be as a guitarist and the deep depression of knowing, I ain’t ever getting there, not all the way!

Came here for your reaction to my favourite band, ended up feeling some deep shit with your intro 😂 you got a reaction out of me instead. Dang.

Ok, That's funny as hell! I can sing every part, but I can't drum every part.

Marco's playing sounds so impeccable you think it should be carefully rehearsed, but it also feels slightly dangerous like he is pushing himself right to the edge and just barely getting an accent or burst fill in time.

Marco is the only drummer that comes to mind (at the moment) that plays with such an overt and obvious sense of joy and playfulness. Have you seen them live? It's absolutely outrageous how much fun these guys have, and how good they are together.

Seen them live and got to talk with them by accident!

I enjoyed all of this, but that little exit music was awesome. Also that comment about Virgil... Don't worry, he's an alien. Nobody knows what he's doing. Probably not even he does, though he does a good attempt at seeming like he does. As for trios... You may be right. Though I like Senri Kawaguchis unit Triangle. Good chemistry there and some nice improvs. And Virgil with Jr and whomstever they have on guitar. And the Kari Band with Mikio Fujioka, they're a lot of fun too, though the video quality is a bit low.

I am probably a decade older than you, and that experience you had with Aristocrats- I had when I first saw Liquid Drum Theater by Portnoy playing Liquid Tension songs... although I didn't go the music school route.

As for saying Marco came out of nowhere, (again being older) you should check out Paul Gilbert's Space Ship Live. He plays some Racer X songs on that and is sick. That probably came out in 2005ish?

Yes actually I find those vids where they are dressed up like astronauts to be real inspiring and cool!

I'm not a drummer but I think the drumming on levitation 21 by tigran hamasyan will blow your mind

Some good advice i was given .... Ur still young, dont compare yourself to world class musicians. There will be plenty of time that when ur older.

Enjoying your reviews, Ryan. If you're looking for joyful trios, check out Dirty Loops. They have a different vibe, but they just might have the fun element that you're seeking!

Thanks! Will do! I have done them on your recommendation!
